Sharing Trolls Counts as Trolling: Sometimes desperately lazy outlets hire trolls, or trolls who are good at social media build enough of a following, that they become a headache for us, spreading hate or falsehoods. Because having them repeated on our site can directly harm us, if you're on the message board you should be aware that posting something from them could get you banned. They are:

  • SirYacht/Chat Sports/James Yoder - Fake news merchant who likes to make up plausible rumors or report non-sure things to get a false scoop.
  • Any local Spartan media when they talk about Michigan. Unless they're yelling "MAKE PLAYS!"
  • Pete Finebaum: FoxNews for SEC fans. Occasionally useful to them but the only times he's intersecting with us is when he's carrying Saban's water.
  • Rainer Sabin: Finebaum wannabe hired by the Freep to troll Michigan fans.
  • Steve Deace: Curiously well-funded white supremacist radio host who's got such a small Michigan following you can safely assume anyone posting positively about him is Deace and ban him again. Creates lots of burner accounts to promote himself. Recently booted by Maven for advocating lynching.
  • Barstool: People who took the freedom of young internet too seriously because really what they wanted to do the whole time was propagate bad ideas.

Changing M shade of blue to support Ukraine

I'm of two minds on this. One is they could probably do this with the basketball uniforms once and have it be meaningful if they donate the proceeds from that game to refugees or something.

On the other: Bad thread that was badly argued and nobody wanted it on the site.

I accidently made a post a diary. It's the one about Diabate and Houstan. If someone could change it to a regular post I'd be much obliged.

Came here to make the same comment.

LSA - thanks for clearly signaling your virtues in the same mod comment declaring you were locking the thread "Before this gets too far down some divisive roads".  Classy

Overwhelmingly people do not want these types of topics on the site that we users can't seem to avoid turning into polar political debates, so thank you sincerely for locking the thread.  But, whether posters agree or disagree with your thoughts on gun control it's laughable that you say "last word" and share your personal opinions as you lock it.

I see NOTHING wrong with LSA's comments.

Today in Lansing, one side refused to vote on a bill that would require firearms to be safely locked up to keep them out of the wrong hands AND INSTEAD sent the bill to committee (mind you, a committee that has become a black hole because that one side, which chairs that particular committee, has failed to hold a meeting since October 2021).

Just 6 months ago, we lost 4 students in Oxford Michigan BECAUSE THE SHOOTER'S PARENTS BOUGHT THEIR MINOR A GUN AND THEN PROCEEDED TO LEAVE IT NOT LOCKED UP.  And yet, that one side still chooses to continue obstructing simple common sense preventive measures.

End rant.  Except for posting this one more time, because Steve Kerr gets it:

Yes, the thread turned political at times, as just about anything does these days.  I did a quick skim thru it in the wee hours of the morning because I didn't sleep well overnight; after doing so I felt the vast majority of the comments up to that point were not in violation of MGoBoard guidelines.  And because I've long been of the opinion that most who post here on the board are a cut or two above, I decided to neither delete nor lock it.

Please quote exactly what LSA said in his comments that was political in nature rather than him stating facts and then drawing his conclusion. I'd like to have it pointed out---I've read thru it several times and don't see anything political.

What's more, besides everything he posted being true, the fact remains (as he seemed to clearly point out) that NOTHING we've tried since the Columbine bloodbath has worked.  In the meantime, America has exponentially a much higher rate of mass murders than any other country not in the middle of a war.

As the definition of insanity clearly states, to keep doing the same thing and yet expect different results....

The political statement was in regards to guns and access to them with the implication that those who may disagree with a certain position do not care.  If I misread that then it is in me.

He also didn't really state any facts just mentioned the horrible past similar incidents that occured and then concluded that a certain group of people do not care about these events.  I find that tone very divisive and it assumes that some people don't care about something that they probably care a great deal about.

I was just looking at Depth Chart by Class and it shows we are at 88/85. I tried to count myself, excluding walk ons, and I got 85/85. Maybe you are counting walk-ons that received a one year scholly? Or maybe I just counted wrong? My understanding is we need to be at 85 by fall camp. Are we really over the 85 limit? Do three players still have to go?

I'm perplexed, Seth. I loathe the posts concerning the shortcomings of Harbaugh and UM re: NIL. I admonished those who seem to think it's Ross's responsibility to fund the money cannon, and challenged them to do it themselves. I.E  if you want Dante Moore to play for Michigan, beat the other offers. I don't think that's an unreasonable position.

We call it the snowflake rule, because after games people tend to jam up the board with their takes as if that one take is a special snowflake everyone needs to stop and examine.

It's a fine board comment, or a fine reply to the main page, but not worthy of its own message board thread when we have plenty of spaces to talk about Michigan recruiting and NIL. The nature of it was opinion, and there are ample threads on the subject in which to voice it and converse on it. If it's a good thought, people will react positively to it on its own merits.

OT- Climate Change and sports/parenting

Many things that aren't political by nature, e.g. scientific facts, are nonetheless triggers for partisan fights. That the fault for this is one-sided is the nature of the battle. You are convincing nobody here.

I concede discussing strategies for surviving the devastation of climate change isn't fruitless. Neither is discussing with other Ohioans what to do if someone demands your daughter be checked for a vagina if she wants to play basketball. You could technically squeeze a lot of these things through our rules, and mark my words there will be far worse that affects us personally in the years to come. But to what end? Is it more important than keeping what we have here?

I no longer say this merely as an attempt for civility on the message board. I know history--the world's and that of my family--too well to ignore where this could be headed. Right now the most important thing is that we continue to see each other as humans.

Thanks for the reply. I understand this is a football blog and thought this topic correlated reasonably well (especially after seeing some other topics not even labeled OT skate through). Just to be clear- I wasn’t trying to sway anyone and the entire concept started as a sports related question and article that was linked.  If any subject fact related or not can be hi jacked by users purely for personal, political reasons then no thread is safe. Having empathy/respect for one another can’t be one sided and stopping opportunities for that discourse to organically grow in spite of some users agenda won’t change that. I don’t envy your job as mod, but trust you know what’s best for this board.
