I mean, he did go 0-4 against OSU. But still, would love to have him back either way.
At the very least, it would piss the Sparties off seeing their big brother back on the Michigan sidelines.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
I don’t know that it’s fair to pin a won-loss record on a running back (or any other individual player for that matter).
January 13th, 2021 at 5:45 PM ^
True, but it's also kinda ridiculous to say that he understands the rivalry better.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:54 PM ^
I said better than most, it sure can't hurt.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:21 PM ^
Harbaugh should understand the rivalry. Warinner should understand the rivalry having coached on both sides. I don't think he's gonna make a huge difference in that regard.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:06 PM ^
I'm sure he wants to beat osu as part of the team. Now's your chance for redemption Mike.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:53 PM ^
This has to be the most overrated thing people bring up. OSU keeps beating us because they're a much better football team. That's it.
January 13th, 2021 at 7:11 PM ^
I'll go a step further: It's fucking stupid.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:19 PM ^
This is great news if true. I'd love to see MH back in the fold.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:21 PM ^
'lil brother better watch out!
January 13th, 2021 at 8:16 PM ^
Exactly! This should spice up the big brother/ little brother bowl every year.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:21 PM ^
If his coaching style is anything like his playing style at Michigan, its a great get.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:22 PM ^
Honestly, I don’t see how he’d be that much of an upgrade. I don’t think he’s proved it yet. Indiana has not been good in the running game. Can someone help me out? Genuinely asking.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:29 PM ^
They have a very strong running game and Mike has done a really good job recruiting.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:34 PM ^
Indiana's running backs under Mike hart have been significantly better than ours, and ours have been ranked much higher as recruits when they came in. He crushed his time in Indiana.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:40 PM ^
I don’t disagree but you could pretty much make that statement about most of our position groups lately. QB play, WR play, etc. I’m not sure being better than M is a sought after comparison right now.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:06 PM ^
Ummm.....the last full season was 2019, so we will use that.
Michigan runningbacks = 1,791 (tops was Zach Charbonnet, at 739)
IU runningbacks = 1,200 (tops was Stevie Scott, at 845)
I may not be a mathematics wizard, but 1,791 is still better than 1,200, right? Am I living in an alternative realm, where it's not? ?
How is that "significantly better"?
I love Hart and all, but Jay has been a good coach. He's also our best recruiter. Minimizing his coaching, simply because he's the son of the HC, is silly. This board loves it's narratives, I tell ya. Takes a narrative and runs with it. Facts be damned! Lol
With that said, if true, welcome aboard Mike Hart. Love to see you back in the Maize and Blue!
January 13th, 2021 at 5:22 PM ^
But why would he leave Indiana?
January 13th, 2021 at 5:36 PM ^
Bloomington?
January 13th, 2021 at 5:40 PM ^
Why do people keep asking this? Its his alma mater and he loves the school. It will be a long time before anybody in coaching considers IU as a better job than at Michigan.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:53 PM ^
$$$$$$$$$$
January 13th, 2021 at 6:27 PM ^
He was AHC/RB at Indiana and making less than Nua and McDaniels, our two lowest paid assistants.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:23 PM ^
That first in-person meeting between Hart and Harbaugh...awkward!
January 13th, 2021 at 6:59 PM ^
First meeting between Hart & little brother...fun!
January 13th, 2021 at 7:40 PM ^
Except that THAT Harbaugh doesn’t work here anymore. This one is mellow....This one might even hug Jim Schwartz. The other Harbaugh would be yelling “serenity now!” And destroying an apartment full of computers.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:25 PM ^
They are talking on WTKA like its a done deal.
GO BLUE
January 13th, 2021 at 5:29 PM ^
Back in the day, I'd heard Michigan had recruited this guy named Mike Hart but I was dubious. He was small, and had played against unimpressive competition, in a state not known for its high school football.
However, visiting Syracuse, I got talking sports with a guy at the University and he was gushing about Hart. His comments felt like more than local pride, and by the time I left, I was convinced that this kid might be good.
I had no idea though he'd be great.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:40 PM ^
He had a legendary high school highlight clip that was just called “the run.” I remember that video (pre-YouTube!) making the rounds before his freshman season.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:42 PM ^
I love me some Mike Hart. I like the idea of Hart & Gattis working together, even more so if there's any chance of getting Moorhead in there to run things. But, I also don't have much confidence that JH has the organizational skills/structure and people skills to make it work. I worry that poor Mike Hart will be coming only to be lost in a year and have his UM relationships strained further.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:50 PM ^
I'd love to hire Moorhead, but I think that ship has sailed and there's not going to be room now anyway. Hart essentially replaces McDaniels on the offensive staff, and WOTS is Jim Harbaugh will be the "QB coach". Warriner - OL, Moore - TE, Gattis - OC/WR.
On the defensive side, I'm assuming MacDonald replaces Don Brown as DC, maybe Banks replacing Schoop as co-DC/Safeties, and then hiring a new CB coach to replace Zordich. Not sure on DL, though I'd like to see someone new there to replace Nua, and Jean-Mary remains as LB Coach. That's (5) offensive/ST assistants and (5) defensive assistants, which is the max (10).

Not surprising, but I worry how much Hart will really be able to influence/help the offense with Gattis. I like the hire as a RB coach, not sure how much he's going to help Gattis. Heard & Sheridan are the OCs at Indiana, although Hart is the associate HC & RBs coach. I wonder his influence on the offensive scheme & play calling.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:37 PM ^
Moorehead turned us down.
January 13th, 2021 at 7:26 PM ^
So we replace Brown (65) with (perhaps?) Macdonald (30?) and we let Zordich (57) walk and we've hired Hart (34). Am I reading too much into this? Is this a conscious effort to get younger staff members who have more energy, not so set in their ways, and can relate better to kids?
January 13th, 2021 at 5:43 PM ^
Sam Webb now saying its done. Mike Hart is back
January 13th, 2021 at 5:47 PM ^
247 is reporting that its official and confirmed through Jim Harbaugh himself!

Jansen just tweeted it too.
waiting for the MgoBlog BPONE take.

Positive hire. Keep it up Jim.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:58 PM ^
Great move...could be the next HC.
January 13th, 2021 at 5:59 PM ^
We should ask Keith Jackson.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:00 PM ^
The team desperately needs a little Hart.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:01 PM ^
Mike Hart.....coach's son......RB coach.....
Yeah, the choice seems rather clear to me.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:15 PM ^
I’m happy to have Hart back in town, but don’t think it’s necessary to pile on Jay Harbaugh. His body of work as an assistant coach has been solid.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:03 PM ^
Jay’s position groups have been good every year. He’s been a good coach for Michigan. I know it doesn’t fit the narrative, but he has been.

I found myself slightly annoyed with him in recent years as Indiana's offenses gave us trouble, but I'm sure I will quickly love the guy again. I bet he is thrilled. Dude bleeds maize & blue.
January 13th, 2021 at 6:07 PM ^
Michigan official instagram just posted it. Welcome back Mike!

I like this.
Hart seemed to have a killer instinct attitude.
Little Brother hate week should be fun.
