Honestly, I don’t see how he’d be that much of an upgrade. I don’t think he’s proved it yet. Indiana has not been good in the running game. Can someone help me out? Genuinely asking.

Ummm.....the last full season was 2019, so we will use that.

Michigan runningbacks = 1,791 (tops was Zach Charbonnet, at 739)

IU runningbacks = 1,200 (tops was Stevie Scott, at 845)

I may not be a mathematics wizard, but 1,791 is still better than 1,200, right?  Am I living in an alternative realm, where it's not?  ?

How is that "significantly better"?

I love Hart and all, but Jay has been a good coach.  He's also our best recruiter.  Minimizing his coaching, simply because he's the son of the HC, is silly.  This board loves it's narratives, I tell ya.  Takes a narrative and runs with it.  Facts be damned!  Lol

With that said, if true, welcome aboard Mike Hart.  Love to see you back in the Maize and Blue!

Back in the day, I'd heard Michigan had recruited this guy named Mike Hart but I was dubious. He was small, and had played against unimpressive competition, in a state not known for its high school football.

However, visiting Syracuse, I got talking sports with a guy at the University and he was gushing about Hart. His comments felt like more than local pride, and by the time I left, I was convinced that this kid might be good.

I had no idea though he'd be great.

I love me some Mike Hart.  I like the idea of Hart & Gattis working together, even more so if there's any chance of getting Moorhead in there to run things.  But, I also don't have much confidence that JH has the organizational skills/structure and people skills to make it work.  I worry that poor Mike Hart will be coming only to be lost in a year and have his UM relationships strained further.

I'd love to hire Moorhead, but I think that ship has sailed and there's not going to be room now anyway.  Hart essentially replaces McDaniels on the offensive staff, and WOTS is Jim Harbaugh will be the "QB coach".  Warriner - OL, Moore - TE, Gattis - OC/WR.

On the defensive side, I'm assuming MacDonald replaces Don Brown as DC, maybe Banks replacing Schoop as co-DC/Safeties, and then hiring a new CB coach to replace Zordich. Not sure on DL, though I'd like to see someone new there to replace Nua, and Jean-Mary remains as LB Coach.  That's (5) offensive/ST assistants and (5) defensive assistants, which is the max (10).

Not surprising, but I worry how much Hart will really be able to influence/help the offense with Gattis.  I like the hire as a RB coach, not sure how much he's going to help Gattis.  Heard & Sheridan are the OCs at Indiana, although Hart is the associate HC & RBs coach.  I wonder his influence on the offensive scheme & play calling.

So we replace Brown (65) with (perhaps?) Macdonald (30?) and we let Zordich (57) walk and we've hired Hart (34).  Am I reading too much into this?  Is this a conscious effort to get younger staff members who have more energy, not so set in their ways, and can relate better to kids?

Jay’s position groups have been good every year. He’s been a good coach for Michigan. I know it doesn’t fit the narrative, but he has been.

I found myself slightly annoyed with him in recent years as Indiana's offenses gave us trouble, but I'm sure I will quickly love the guy again. I bet he is thrilled. Dude bleeds maize & blue.
