Michigan vs. Northwestern Game Thread
7-7 at the first TV timeout. Chris is being annoying

Just watched a replay. Nance 100% shoved Williams with both of his hands and his arms fully extended.

Dickinson is not an NBA player. John's is . . . I don't know what.
January 26th, 2022 at 8:49 PM ^
Disappointing performance but refs didn't help... Either way shouldn't be held to 9 points by NW of all teams.
January 26th, 2022 at 8:52 PM ^
Dickinson needs to be studying a foreign language, he’ll be playing in Europe soon.

I think he was stoned for the two recent road games, causing him to not think as hard and play better. He was sober tonight.
January 26th, 2022 at 8:52 PM ^
. . .he's a college player. Just facts guys.

A stupid game but one UM would have lost by 10 a month ago. Survive and advance. And credit to Jones and Houstan, two guys who struggled earlier in the year, stepping up and leading the comeback.
Now we shall never speak of this game again.

The old saying is a win is a win. I’ll take it!

Maybe these officials can get Collins rod out of their throat now. That one laughed and hung out by him as much as he could tonight. Nice try fuckers!

Order restored. Excuse me while I eat a cookie.

I'm not sure I like the intentional foul philosophy up 3 late in game. Is this analytics based? Im pretty sure Beilein wouldn't do it.
January 26th, 2022 at 8:50 PM ^
Well Belein also had the one foul auto sub policy that was stupid as hell
January 26th, 2022 at 8:52 PM ^
It is a newer philosophy that has its roots in analytics yes. However, many studies, including one done by Ken Pomeroy, have found that is usually the smarter choice to foul when up 3.
January 26th, 2022 at 8:53 PM ^
Michigan lost a double overtime game at Northwestern in 2015 because Michigan didn't foul up 3 at the end of regulation and NW made a 3 with under 5 seconds left.
January 26th, 2022 at 8:55 PM ^
We lost 2 games (at least) against Wisconsin for not fouling up 3 late
January 26th, 2022 at 8:58 PM ^
Fouling almost cost them the game as NW had a look when Bouie missed the second FT. I am sure in 88/100 scenarios fouling gets the better outcome but we almost saw one of 12 upclose

Shoot 56% from the floor and hit 18 free throws.
Checks box score to see if we won by 20 or 30…
Thank you to everyone here so I know to hit delete on my dvr and nothing else.

Johns is a hot mess. He's played himself out of the lineup. And I don't know what Juwan was thinking not calling a TO when we went from up 6 to down 7. He ended the game with 2 TOs left. WTF?
January 26th, 2022 at 8:53 PM ^
I think Juwan wanted to troll you, K99
January 26th, 2022 at 9:04 PM ^
I posted exactly that in real time. We were a mess and call a timeout if nothing else to just curb momentum. He finally called TO when we got down 7.
Also a sluggish game like this why not put in guys like Bufkin and even Jace, these are energy guys. Do something different!
January 26th, 2022 at 9:12 PM ^
If I was Juwan I’d write you a summary after each and every game explaining to you WHY we won a game that the referees babysat the other coach the whole &@:)@;!! Game!!!! That’s what I’d do!
January 26th, 2022 at 8:55 PM ^
NW coach calling a timeout for no reason with 4 minutes left and NW up five. Led directly to a run by Michigan.
January 26th, 2022 at 8:58 PM ^
Nothing like playing at home and having a minus 2 foul disparity. The one by Williams with 12 seconds left was either one of the most ignorant fouls ever or a major ref screw job because it was basically Nance passing the ball over to Buie.
January 26th, 2022 at 9:06 PM ^
As a former player & ref, it makes a HUGE difference of energy on the court when there are fans in the stands. Hoping that someday Michigan will develop a true home-court intimidation factor with fan energy.

Did you even watch the game???
January 26th, 2022 at 9:53 PM ^
They are better than they were a month ago. Not great. Better. Another month of growth and improvement and we can all excitedly tune in to the NIT in March.

Oh my goodness, what a game. Recorded it, speed through it, painful at times, though great the Good Guys found a way to pull this out. What a win !
