Go Blue Eyes

The coaching road over the past 8 years has been pretty rocky and there were a couple of wrecks on the way, but the future looks like an 8 lane super highway.

they are two of my favorites. the color guy mentioned that he played at washington and he does a very good job of being informative and/or interesting, without being a blowhard or someone who's trying to be the wizard of smart.

and yeah, the coaching was fantastic.  can't believe we went what amounts to 9 drives and what would've been an 8th score.   that is all-world against a very good D.   go blue.

there are other good announcing teams, but after guys like todd blackledge and herbie who i also usually like, they drop off pretty quick in terms of quality and ability to listen to them.

for instance, i have detested brent fuss-budget since his very first day doing college football, and he has only improved marginally in the nearly 30 years he's been doing it.   i can't stand it when a guy who was never even picked to play on his 2nd grade kickball team at recess tries to sound like the fountain of expertise about a sport he never played.

Immediately after he said it his partner corrected him with something like, "They only played 9 games a year back then" to which he quickly assented.

It was just poorly timed, veiled sarcasm in the midst of a huge U of M posbang - he was probly trying too hard to regain some 'journalistic integrity'.

All that JH/M love at the time was just one of my favorite parts of the day - I'm not sure it makes much difference to recruits - but it feels good to me.

but they were right and as a michigan man (as virtually all of you are, and ladies too), i thought they were spot on.   and it was true and gracious what they said a few times about hoke not leaving the cupboard bare - a point i have made all season long.   it was a rare coaching change in that regard.   hoke didn't leave it perfect, but he sure didn't leave us with a tire fire like about 99% of other coaching changes.

The Barwis Effect

There was very little they were right about, from Patrick saying that Chesson was the receiver who had banged his head, to Cunningham trying to sell us on the intent to throw the ball over the line call was a good call, not to mention his cockamamie idea that the only reason U-M has the all-times wins record is because they used to play 30 times a year. Bar none, the worst announce crew I have heard all year.

Ahhh yes Mike Patrick. I'll never forget the 2009 game vs Illinois when he kept repeatedly calling David Moosman by the name of Mossman. Our fearless leader as I recall, noted this quite humorously in his game recap. MOSSMAN!!

The shot at RichRod bugged me too--and I'm one of those people who was glad he was fired.  I've never seen anything that indicated he was hired to change the culture (by Bill Martin??? Not a culture change guy) or that he did try to change the culture (scheme, sure; culture, no).  Brandon was the guy intent on culture change (chief marketing officer anyone?) not Rich.

The best coaches always seem to get the best out of their teams with a large break before the bowl games.  Saban, Urbs, Harbaugh.  I can't believe how much the line and Rudock improved over the last half of the season.

This is how I'd hoped so badly our O-line would eventually become...  After OSU I lost a bit of hope for next year because it seemed our starters weren't ever going to reach their potential or recruiting hype...

But, after seeing the fruits of great coaching and preparation today (Thank you, Drevno!), I'm feeling confident we will finally have a MICHIGAN O-LINE next season!

We punted once, and it was because of a holding penalty.  Also, we kept alive their TD drive with a substitution infraction.

Gotta correct those things.

;)

Seriously, it's amazing that Florida never really stopped us, with what was billed as one of the nation's best defenses.  Incredible job by the staff.

Aided by UF's offensive misery but the run game was night and day vs a highly touted defense. If the O line improvement is for real then next year is going to be really, really fun.

I think Chesson gave Hargreaves a severe case of vertigo today.

offensive game plan. Even the last drive was a relatively "safe" set of plays that picked up solid chunks of yards. Assistants did a great job preparing each position group on offense. JH gets 9 months to make these guys and a whole set of recruits turn into a force for next season. Wow.

Yes, haha. :)

Not to be a smartass ... but ...

Please don't neg me too much but when I was in the USAF on the Left Coast in the 80's I got so sick of watching Bo's teams get their asses kicked almost every year in the Rose Bowl - I know, sacrilege, right? Well, I wasn't in Big Ten territory enjoying all the Big Ten titles he won, so ...

I loved Lloyd's natty and the general era - but i was tired of him at the end.

When Llloyd left I wanted Harbaugh bad - but right at that time dontchya know he'd hafta open his mouth and bad-mouth M's commitment to academics. Well, things being what they were at the time there was no way the M athletic department would look down from Mt. Olympus and grant JH an audience.

But then a miracle happened - the kind of miracle that looks like a disater at first.

M fell on huge hard times while Harbaugh hit the heights and when Mighty Meecheegan had humbled themselves and got the right man to approach JH it was a match made in Meecheegan heaven.

And it WILL change the course of Meecheegan history.
