There was a time that MSU was far below Michigan and OSU was about equal.

Now “at least MSU looked worse than us”    makes people feel better.

I remember that.  I also remember a time, less long ago, when Michigan was far below both.

This is not a defense of Harbaugh's record thus far.  I have mixed feelings about that.  But it's a recognition that when MSU struggles, it helps us, and vice versa.  It's not a coincidence that their best eras in history (1950-67, 2008-2015) were the same times as Michigan's greatest struggles.  And when MSU was in the wilderness for 40 years from 1968-2007, Michigan had the 2nd best winning percentage in the country in that era.

So overall, yes it does make me feel a little better when they look bad, because it tends to correlate with our success.  It makes it easier to beat them, change The Narrative, and win recruiting battles.  We can't even think of winning the Big Ten and beyond if we can't win our own state.

No, it's not enough, but it's a prerequisite.

Both teams look very sloppy this year, especially on offense.

Beating MSU this year might not be saying much in terms of difficulty, SOS, SP+, or deeper analyses.  But it counts as a win over a rival.  Maybe more importantly, it's a non-loss to an important (for recruiting, etc.) rival.  College football narratives are broad strokes.  If we win, it's "3 of the last four, we are taking back the state."  If we lose, it's "Harbaugh is 2-3 vs MSU and can't beat them at home, can't beat rivals."

This Michigan State team lost to ASU at home, got body bagged by OSU on the road, and then followed that up with an even worse performance on the road at Wisco.

Michigan has the chance to seize the narrative about their season next weekend. I sure hope the season doesn't boil down to a pool noodle fight with Michigan State.

All MSU’s loss to Wisconsin does is put them in prime position to devote the rest of their season and all their resources into punching us directly in the nuts.

Reports elsewhere note that Dantonio, after taking responsibility as head coach, immediately adds that the players didn't execute well. That's not exactly absolving himself and throwing them under the bus, but it is nudging them into the path of the bus as it rolls by.

Happy to not only see Sparty lose, but get obliterated. All it shows is that Wisconsin is as good as they’ve showed, and also they are way ahead of Michigan in all aspects. Kind of depressing. And Chryst came in about the same time as Harbaugh. Wisconsin is a well coached team and Michigan is obviously not.

Msu is not good enough to win the rest of the games on their schedule, what a ridiculous sentiment. I also disagree that msu would beat Michigan right now, we are having a disappointing season, but they just lost to our one common opponent more thoroughly than we did(which is saying something). I know the transitive property is dicey in sports, but it's what all we have for now, other than polls.
