This is a stupid headline. Hopefully our players and staff don't see it that way and prepare for MSU like they are the MSU team of 2014-2015. If they do, we should win. If they don't...

It may be a stupid headline, but how else was the Detroit News going to generate any interest in the article? Putting Michigan in the title is your answer.

I'm not a Graham Couch fan but this was pretty good writing, the MSU beat reporter getting in a dig at their fans too.

They’ll almost certainly be 5-6 entering the final week of the season, playing woeful Maryland in front of an empty Spartan Stadium for a bid in the Quick Lane Bowl on Dec. 26 in Detroit.

How are there a bunch of errors in a newspaper blog? I mean, message boards are informal so I let it pass but this is supposed to be true journalism and they have editors.

...and fuck MSU. They will need to wash shredded tires from every hole in their faces.

I think their one hope is if they can sustain a pass rush and get to Patterson and force 5 turnovers like two years ago.  That is their one hope.  If our offensive line has even a decent day we'll roll them.  Our WRs are going to be open all day.  It's going to be like shooting ducks in a barrel if we can keep Shea on his feet.  On the other side of the ball, they are going to need short fields to score any points at all.

My one concern is that Harbaugh plays conservative in all “big games” or games of rivalry consequence like this.  We should have beat State like 45-7 last year.  There is no reason to let this State team hang around, but he may call a game that leaves them no choice but to do so.

If the coaches call this game like we are playing Rutgers we will beat them by 40. If they turtle it will get weird.

I agree about not turtling but disagree about winning by 40.  Hope I'm wrong, but MSU is better than their record.  SP+ has Michigan only 10 points better on a neutral field.  MSU is ranked ahead of Kansas St., Virginia, Boise, and several other teams who play weaker schedules and are ostensibly having better seasons.

(Side note: it's funny when Narduzzi gets credit for winning his crap division last year and gets mentioned as building an 'up and coming' program.  Dantonio is a better coach than Narduzzi *right now* - and SP+ reflects that, with MSU 35th and Pitt 50th.)

Turnovers have played a big role in MSU's losses, so if we aren't at least +2 we likely won't be blowing them out.

Seems to be the case for almost every game. Do just enough to win- until the refs try and screw you (Notre Dame was about to be a turtle game until the horrible PI call, then the gas pedal was pressed) or the other team mouths off (Rutgers spouting off at the mouth at Halftime a couple years ago when down 19). So, hopefully Sparty No comes out and everything is unleashed to steamroll the green into the turf.

"Our WRs are going to be open all day."  I just don't believe this any more.  Not this season.  They can be open but Patterson is unfortunately not Burrow or Tua.  If we blow out MSU it'll more than likely occur because we rushed for 300+ yards and pressured Lewerke constantly.  See the ND game as a prime example.  Patterson will get his 150 to 200 yards through the air and one, maybe two passing TD's.  The rest will be on the ground.  We are what the previous 9 games say we are.  I will be astonished if Shea passes for more than 225 yards.

If we have a shot at beating OSU this season he needs to have a renaissance and start spinning the ball with confidence and finding receivers.  But all these damn data points are hinting that he can't do that.

IMO.

I preach to my MGoBlue, Meeeechigan brainwashed, 18 year son, ... respect your opponent.  Doesn’t matter if they are a rival (tO$u) or a schedule filler (fill in the blank), respect them.

As a M alumni, diehard, fan, supporter, etc. to the inner core of my being, I try to practice my preaching.  I’m sure a lot of you do the same.

With that said, M Go Blue baby!  Beat State!

Before they imploded they were looking surprisingly good on offense. I think they are decent when they don’t self destruct. I’m sure they will play their best game of the year Saturday.

MSU hung their hat on defense this season because the offense isn't so good.  Now with Bachie out their defense isn't so good either.  We all know they play their best against Michigan but I don't think it will matter.  Offensive stride or no stride, Michigan is the better team.  If we play with fire and a chip on our shoulders and limit turnovers (very important!) this could be a blowout.  I haven't seen a line yet but I am guessing it will be around 21 points.  Take Michigan minus the points.

I posted similar thoughts in another post but if UM scores first, game over. MSU will give it a good try but they won't hang in there when things start going south. There is too much crap going within that program. Illinois was a bad, bad loss.

A fast start by UM may end up in a blowout.

However, UM is not known for fast starts and they seem to be back in to the run first, ball control offense.

Please. . .

It's true.  MSU has ZERO chance of winning.

You have to be able to read the signs of the times. . .

Did you see that Brandon Peters INT in the 4th Q?  And MSU still managed to bungle the game away.

MSU is clearly on a downward spiral leading to, whether this year or next, Mark Dantonio's bum's rush exit.  4 years ago no one could imagine Dantonio leaving as a bum, but it is going to happen, and he ain't getting one last win over Michigan as a consolation prize.  Ain't No Way MSU wins.

Exactly.  Illinois is garbage.  I give Lovie credit, his team plays for 60 minutes, they have that NFL technique of creating turnovers, his Bears teams lived off that, and he has made slow but steady progress at Illinois, but that is still a poor football team. . .their defense is still swiss cheese, can't stop the run. . .and all these folks who think Brandon Peters is playing like Dan Marino. . .no.  Somehow Dantonio blew a 28 - 3 lead. . .that speaks more about MSU's problems than Illinois' progress.  Just because a *rivalry* game is at hand doesn't mean something magickal will happen for Dantonio.  Whether they lose by one or thirty-one, they will lose.  And we will be treated to more vintage Dantonio sore loser faces.
