Michigan really botched CA 4* safety Bryan Addison's official visit

Submitted by Maizen on

Per Greg Biggins:

I could see Michigan being a real option, but the only problem is just the visit was so short. It was kind of weird for him and he said he didn’t get to hang out with any players, he didn’t get to see the city, he didn’t get to go out at all and he told me that he didn’t have a host. He said it was a good visit and he loves the coaching staff. He kind of liked all that part of it, but if you are going to leave home, then you got to be like blown away by your visit. It didn’t really seem like he was blown away by it, so he liked, but I don’t know if it was one of those deal where he really fell in love with it. Right now, he’s really hard to handicap.”

I don't know anything about Greg Biggins, and I don't know the details of this visit.  Maybe the only time he could come nobody could host him?  Maybe they dropped the ball?

My perception (I can't speak for the board) is that you kind of like bringing things like this and posting them.  I think that's what people are reacting to...

I can't call it a Maizen post by the title as often as a WD post by the title, but I can call it with the same certainty. "Look at how Michigan fucked this up; I mean I'm super upset about it because I'm totally a Michigan fan but WHY ARE YOU MAD AT ME I'M TOTALLY A MICHIGAN FAN LOOK MAIZE IS IN MY NAME"

Something that stood out to me was he said his visit was short. Well, a lot of that is on his time frame. If he was here for just a short time how much can you pack in. Seems like he got some good time with the coaches, but you can only fit so much into a compacted visit.

I mean, Greg Biggins didn't post it here.  I think it's always sketchy when guys communicate second-hand accounts of meetings intermixed with their own commentary.  It's hard to tell how much of this was Addison saying he was unhappy with the visit but was still interested in Michigan and how much was the reporter's speculation.

As for the staff dropping the ball, sure, if it's true that they did a bad job it's not a good look.  But this is a staff that is coming off two top-10 recruiting classes.  Not saying it didn't happen here, but this post simply repeats something written elsewhere with little context and is only going to incite anger and no real discussion.

Addison's own words on scout are basically word for word the same thing.

"After the game, we all just went back to the hotel," Addison said. "The players were pretty mad so we didn't go out and I never really had a player host on the visit.

Honestly, I don’t feel any way about you. I don’t think I’ve ever clicked on one of your threads before this week. But I would suggest lightening up and curbing your need to reflexively defend yourself. Everyone knows they can get a rise out of you and so we break your balls.

You left out very important context and you do this sort of thing regularly so you've lost any benefit of the doubt.  Reading your OP (didn't read the link yet) it's not clear that this was after the MSU game and that he did actually have a host but because of the disappointing loss no one went out or hosted him out on the town.  I certainly wouldn't describe that as "Michigan really botched" unless you are implying the loss to MSU.  What I can't figure out is if this is just a game you like to play or if you really can't understand why people dislike you.

What "very important context" was left out.

And wait, you think I care if a bunch of anonymous screen names like me? LOL. I guess I shouldn't be surprised you dorks think like this considering how much you value your fake life points.

You're clearly interested in the approval of other posters, or you wouldn't start all these threads.  And it's evident that you crave a high MGopPoint total, or you wouldn't obsessively upvote yourself each post.

You're like a moralizing Congressman who cheats on his wife.

I said this below and will say it again here, Addison came pretty far from home and didn't bring any family or coaches with him on his visit according to Steve Lorenz. That is usually a sign that he isn't that interested in attending U of M. Maybe the coaches/players didn't want to waste their time? Just a thought.

That's speculation at its finest. A player only gets 5 official visits. If they aren't interested and just looking for a trip they are going to go to USC, FSU, Miami etc. Not Michigan in October.

He's shown plenty of interest. Recruits talk like crazy due to all of the Nike and UA camps. No way the coaches would blow it off on purpose when the downside is so much larger than just spending some time with the kid.

Plus if you look at his quote, he was impressed with the coaches. They were obviously prepared for it. The players already do enough for no pay. You can't force them to want to be recruiting salesmen after a heartbreaking loss.

like speculating about how recruits would choose to waste an official visit on Miami or Tallahassee after Hurricane Irma devastated the state, or wasting an official to USC, which is less than 1/2 hour drive from Bryan Addison's house!  FWIW, Michigan is pretty nice in October.  When I lived in California I would try to get back to MIchigan in October whenever I could.

That's fine.  But (a) the original post lacked the context of it was after the loss and he didn't have a player host, and (b) still doesn't distinguish between where he really views Michigan and if they are still an option.  That seems mostly speculation by Biggins.

Also, the title of the post was full of editorializing, which is fine I guess, but you then went to the comments to point out that people were going to attack you even though you were just the messenger.  I'll be honest, I wouldn't have cared at all about this post had it not been tinged 100% with your belief that Michigan really botched a visit with text that denotes it wasn't the best visit but the kid loved the staff and still seemed to be high on Michigan.  What I can tell from this whole situation is that Addison wasn't given a player host and didn't experience that part of a visit.  That does suck for him and could definitely be a deciding factor, but I don't see anything substantive about whether or not this actually sank Michigan's chances with this recruit.

seriously, you are unbearable. I'm newer to this blog, but have been a follower since 2008. I've noticed you "maizen" specifically. and you are a troll. A little, hairy, dick headed annoying troll. Stop posting negatively just to get a rise out of people. Do you like Michigan? Do you even know this blog? If so, you would know that these are the responses you are going to get when you post crap. Maizen, you suck, and go blue.

You're a douche. Most people here can't stand the trash you post. You obviously go out of your way to make things more negative than they are and everyone here can see right through it. I know you "don't care" what a bunch of random people on the internet think but when EVERYONE is calling out an asshat...

well...

maybe you're an asshat?
