Michigan players most likely to withdraw names from NFL draft (if any)?

Submitted by crg on January 15th, 2024 at 12:27 PM

We know a number of Michigan players who have already announced their intent to enter the 2024 NFL draft - and more could announce today although it is the last day they can enter.

However, as we saw with Cam Ward already some players may withdraw from this year's draft if they can get the right circumstances.  This can be done as late as Feb 2nd and they can still return to school.

So the question can be asked whether we can *realistically* see any of the Michigan players withdrawing from this year's draft?  Maybe if Harbaugh announces he's staying and/or a large NIL offer?  Who would be likely to pull out of the draft and then transfer to *another* team?

I'm not big on speculation posts like this, but there are some very interesting possibilities to consider.  Nothing is final right now for anyone with possible eligibility.  I don't *expect* any to withdraw, but who knows at this point... maybe someone else can add some perspective here.

"3 straight wins versus OSU, 3 B1G Championships, and a National Championship."

JJ is 27-1 at Michigan, along with the above stat line.  He has nothing to come back - he's accomplished everything he's going to accomplish at UM.  Even a win in the 12-team playoff will be read as a National Championship - which he already has.  It's also more likely that he'd end his career here with a loss rather than a win.

Go out on top, big man, you've earned it!

I don’t know the NFL process well - and, when Michigan has a Pro Day scheduled in Ann Arbor.

Early feedback could be helpful and the Combine takes places at the end of February - after the “withdraw” window has closed.

Most, if not all, of those who have declared will get drafted - the round is the question mark - but, they have played in a system that translates to Sundays.

Wishing them all well, and - I’ll always be appreciative of their efforts.

Kind of related, but who are the last players we are waiting on a decision from? Trente Jones, Makari Paige, and Rod Moore (I could've missed all their announcements too)?

If Moore or Paige decide to go and get less than ideal draft grades I could see them returning. But last I saw neither of them had announced any decisions.

Of the others who have declared, they really don't have anything more to prove by coming back. Yes, JJ could probably improve his draft spot if he came back but the risk of injury is too high and it may be better for him to 'fall' to a better team than get selected high and be thrown into the fire.

Another vote for none.

Although I hold out hope for: Harbaugh returns; JJ doesn't hire an agent, gets told he won't go until the fourth round... but Carolina really likes him and is threatening to draft him in the middle rounds. JJ decides to come back after he's promised Michigan is going out to get the two 5-star WRs that decommitted from Alabama so he can light it up next season, then go #1 overall in next year's draft.

I don't see anyone doing so.....     There is no way to have a better season than they just completed (short of a repeat with the addition of the Heisman)...

Donovan might get his breakout season, lead us to a 4th B1G title and win the Heisman, how cool would that be?

Draft:

1) McCarthy when(if) Harbaugh signs the contract for Michigan.

2) McGregor

Portal:

1) Clemons (Hopefully will realize he would be a top target at WR next year along with Morris and Morgan).

From the OP:

"I'm not big on speculation posts like this, but there are some very interesting possibilities to consider."

So why don't you provide some opinion on who you think will withdraw their name?

As you say: "...there are some very interesting possibilities to consider."

Why don't you provide a few reasons too?

Didn't someone just recently request for more substantive posts to to be posted?
