Michigan-Colorado highlights (WH style)

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

A little over 24 minutes.

Special teams domination, a great team response to early adversity. Especially by Speight.

Also: PEPPERS!!!

The raw file is 720p. Over 3.5GB.

Windows Movie Maker likely screws it up because it's a free editing program.

This big bitch took two and a half hours to encode. That's why I woke up two hours earlier than usual so I could edit it and then put it through encoding just before Inside Michigan Football starts.

If the audio sounds better this week, it's because I got it from a different provider this week. This is why it also took longer. The video quality upgrade looks marginal, so I'm going with whoever's file is available to me the soonest.

I don't think that what we have seen the last two games is a real indication as to what our running game will actually be. The reason is because if it is, then that would mean that our running game would have taken a significant step back from last year. I'm not sure exactly what is going on, whether Harbaugh is holding something back or if it is something else, but with all that we get back things should not have regressed. Granted, I'm a brainless homer slappy who tends to spin everything irrationally positive and I know literally nothing about this game called foot-ball. So take my opinion with a cosmic grain of salt.

We need an injury update on the trainer that got nailed at the end of Pepper's 55 yard KO return. He got the piss knocked out of him. I saw the hit over on SBNation but it looked even worse on here. It looks helmet to ball cap and that's never good.

I hope he's okay.

But I also demand that Ace gif that clip.  It's perfect.  The Tough Guy standing up getting ready to take the hit.  Tough Guy backing off at the last second.  Unexpecting Coach turning just as Peppers bears in.  The wide "oh SHIIII" eyes.  The hat flying off.  Liufau saying "are you okay?" in slow motion.

A+ execution there.

So every week I watch this at half speed with my old coaching skipwheel.  Thoughts:

  • The second Colorado TD was a perfect choreographed fade.  Literally the only way to have stopped that would have been to bump in man and disrupt the route.  Coverage was also nearly perfect so I don't mind that play at all.
  • The third Colorado TD was weird.  Can't tell what the outside receiver was doing, but it was a cover 4 buster slot skinny post (not that we were in cover four).  I don't know what Delano Hill was doing immediately post-snap because he's off the screen, but I do know that Peppers provided absolutely no help whatsoever in the drop flat.  I think he was concerned about the two backs but McCray was within his line of sight with a hat on the playside back.  Weird.
  • Newsome wasn't flawless, but his run blocking was very good on more than a handful of plays.  He really does a nice job locking on and then turning his butt to the gap.  He's also good on the move although he still hesistates before making contact.  It looks like he's worried more agile guys will run past him.
  • Khalid Hill is one hell of a fullback.  Very, very good blocker when he makes contact.  Also does a nice job knowing when a block is "complete" and he can move on to the next guy.
  • McCray was able to diagnose several plays from the alignment after the motion.  From a fan's perspective, that's a way to tell he's good at learning from film.  The play where he nearly picked off the screen was a great example - you can see him point to the player who will receive the pass right before the ball is snapped.  If he hadn't broken up the pass, Peppers was ready to make the tackle and prevent even a centimeter of YAC.
  • This game was a great example of why linebacker athleticism shouldn't be underrated.  Butt was simply too fast to be covered once he started his drag route.  We could have thrown to him nearly every play had we wanted to.  And, on that note, I appreciated the adjustment of the coaches to run simple underneath mesh shit over and over again since we couldn't go deep.

He blocked two guys on Deveon's TD run in the 3rd qtr. He makes the play happen. It looked like he got dinged up when the DB took out his legs to avoid the block.

As much as I think you're generally way over the top, these highlights you put together are top notch and I can never say that you're not trying to provide as much Michigan awesomeness to the blog as possible. I, for one, am vey thankful that you do these, WD. Keep up the good work!
