Michigan Is 3rd in B1G in Average Recruit Rating

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

Kind of cool news AND a reminder that we will be just fine...

With Perry's commitment, we have the 3rd best class in terms of average recruit rating in the B1G according to 247.

While it would be nice to fill out the class at positions of need and hit on some of our remaining targets, we're good either way.

Go Blue!

EDIT: Changed the title because I realized that Perry's commitment lowers our average rating somewhat. We were already third.

We were never going to be ranked in the National Top 10. Quality is much more important to me, but in a class this small you can't really afford to take flyers on guys. However, I am still optimistic that we have a surprise or 2 tomorrow that solidifies this class.

Mike Weber also favorited Malzone's latest tweet that the best players in Michigan play for Michigan...  Interesting...

Going to quietly wait for tomorrow w/o getting the hopes up... but maybe there is a chance...

Im sitting at home with a broken elbow, can't sleep because of the pain and just internetting the shit of this recruiting thing. There are several sites/articles predicting Weber to Michigan now. I think he was one of the calls JayH was referring to yesterday. However, I'm on drugs.

Actually we were 3rd on that list BEFORE Perry's commitment at a average of 88-something. Perry dropped our average down a bit (not that it matters).

We were a 5-7 team in 2014 and have a new coach who has been out of recruiting for 4 years. Looking at it from that perspective we should be happy with what we have been able to get thus far.

Someone who see it as it really is. You are 100% right. We are very lucky to have anyone with any stars in our class. UM has been the biggest joke, biggest failure, biggest disappointment in the FBS. 5 fuking wins, who wants to play for a team that can only beat 5 scrubs a year. Nobody. This nightmare will play over and over again if we don't start winning.

Van Jefferson was quoted in an interview, "Drew Richmond was down there with me and me and Drew always wanted to play together so that's going to be something special." With Drew's decommitment from Ole Miss, Jefferson removing "Ole Miss commit" from his Twitter profile, and the addition of the Detroit skyline for his Twitter header, I'd say Jefferson is all but blue at this point.

I'd laugh if a recruit said something along the lines of, "I don't want to tell xyz coach I changed my mind they're going to pressure me".

Followed up by something similar to the cell phone commercials saying they'd call to cancel previous service for you.  I can only imagine him calling a rival school, "Yeah so Recuit A  is going to go to Michigan instead.  I know your first instinct is to call him, but he doesn't want that.  Leave him alone and respect his decision".

Meanwhile coach on other end...

For the board's amusement, here's the historic Rivals Data comparing Michigan to Ohio State - 2002 to 2015 (to present). The trend of the last several years is interesting really, particularly how well they seem to follow each other.

Rivals data this year (good call - see below) would have us fourth (3.30)in the Big Ten by average, Ohio State first, so the compression there is pretty decent as we're only 0.14 off their average and Penn State (tied with OSU at 3.44) and Michigan State (3.39) in between us. The cumulative Rivals average for Michigan over 14 years is 3.51.

I didn't want to create a new thread for this but this is kinda neat. Chris Clark retweeted it btw

This has got to be a hell of a decision for him. I'm trying to imagine going to college and playing a sport for a team my dad is on staff for and I'm not so sure I'd want to do it, even though I have (and had growing up) a great relationship with my dad.
