Michigan's schedule & predictions

Submitted by lhglrkwg on September 19th, 2020 at 11:02 AM

Schedule's out now. What's your prediction?

  1. @Minnesota
  2. MSU
  3. @Indiana
  4. Wisconsin
  5. @Rutgers
  6. Penn State
  7. Maryland
  8. @OSU

No one knows anything, but I'm gonna say

Lean W: MSU, Rutgers, Maryland
No clue: @Minnesota, @IU, Wisconsin, Penn State
Lean L: Ohio State

I could convince myself of anything from 3-5 to 6-2

I'll say 6 - 2. Loss to OSU, split PSU and Wisconsin, and win the rest. I'm not buying that Minnesota can repeat last year.

5-3 feels about right to me. I'm guessing losses to Wisconsin, Penn State, and OSU. I know those are the most obvious teams for us to loose to, so sorry for not being more creative, but that feels about right to me. I'm going to try to remain... interested but emotionally detached from this season I think- it's going to be cool if we do well, but I'm hoping it won't feel too awful if we don't do well, just because this is going to be such a historically weird season.

Michigan under Harbaugh has been very predictable. Beat the teams you're better than. Lose to teams you're worse than. Very few upsets and very little getting upset. Ohio State, Penn State, and Wisconsin all figure to have better teams than Michigan this year so that is a very reasonable prediction based on Michigan's recent history.

I am just happy that I will get to watch them play this year (hopefully all 8 games).

The players are motivated and we will have a dynamic QB with a huge arm guiding our offense.

My prediction is 5-3.  Hope they exceed all expectations this year.

I see Michigan going 7-1 and playing Minnesota again in the crossover game. I think the Wisconsin and Penn State games will be close but Michigan will prevail. I see Michigan besting Minny to start the season 24-21 in a game that is closer in score than it should be. I see Michigan winning the crossover game by a lot more, something like 14-17 points. Michigan’s running game is going to be extremely good. Only OSU will have the defense to really contain them.

I didn’t see that umbig11, thanks for the heads up. I actually prefer Michigan to play Minny again, because I think they would beat them handily a second time. Iowa would most likely be the opponent then. I actually feel worse about that game than I would a Minny rematch. I really do think Michigan’s run game will carry them this year. Including Milton moving the pile every so often with his size. I’m not sold in Milton as an elite QB, but I think he can ride good running backs and skill players to a winning season. Guys like Jackson, MS, Henning, and Evans don’t need to catch bombs to get yards. Throw them a screen or swing pass and let them work. They are good at making up yards. Bell should have a great season, him and Milton have very good chemistry.

Im not going to lie, I am very surprised that Collins hasn’t announced he would try to come back. Other than Bell, Collins was the next biggest player pulling for Milton to be the starting QB. You would assume he would want to be around for Milton to launch him some deep balls.

Definite wins: Maryland, Rutgers and MSU

Possible wins: Minnesota, Indiana

Probable losses: Wisconsin, PSU

Definite loss: OSU

5-3 or 6-2 if Milton plays well.  After another blowout loss to OSU, Don Brown finally gets the boot.

Hard to say when our QB situation is more or less a total unknown. He has first round potential, so we have 7-1 potential. Or he could throw 10 passes a game to Tacopants, in which case we're going 5-3 or 4-4.

As someone who is typically WAY on the pessimism side of things, I think people are making Minnesota out to be something they are not.

They were the fortunate beneficiary of a massively easy schedule last season, and when they finally had to play a couple of good teams, they lost. I don't buy them yet. AND, home games are really not going to be play much of a factor this time around.

The schedule is what it is. I laugh at people already building in these home-made excuses and talking about how Michigan is constantly getting boned- just fucking win the games.

I don’t think Minnesota is what some people are making them out to be either. However, I do think they have the pieces to be trouble for us.

They’re returning a top QB. A top half of the first round WR (waiting on eligibility clearance) and their entire OL. Michigan has major question marks at corner, so it’s not crazy to see Minnesota able to move the ball and put up some points.

On the other side, you have a brand new QB making his first start behind an OL with four new starters (5 if Mayfield isn’t cleared for eligibility, not sure if that’s been settled) and throwing to an unproven WR group (outside of Bell).

If this wasn’t a week 1 matchup, I’d be a lot more confident than I currently am.

7-0 going into Ohio. Beating Ohio at halftime but Ohio doesn’t take the field for the second half due to mysterious covid breakout. B1G rules game doesn’t count and we have to wait another year to beat Ohio. Finebaum, Herbstreit go politicking for OSU to go to playoffs because they were “sick” against Michigan. This is 2020, think this is not plausible ?

last time this thread came up I said 2 losses (Mini and OSU)

now we have Mayfield back.... I think there is a strong chance we are 7 and 0 heading into OSU and I'll wait to see how Milton plays before talking about the last game.

I got us at least at 6 and 2, most likely 7 and 1

really hard to predict without seeing Milton play

I'm hoping most of these are noon kickoffs. No reason to have night games since there is no drunken crowd to please. This would be an advantage for Michigan and it would have a 70s feel to the season in a lot of ways.

6-2. Likely loss to OSU (expect big deficit) and then some quirky loss with unknown Covid impact like 8 starters being held out for contact tracing. It’s 2020 and nothing is normal, except 6-2.

The fan-less environment will probably help UM since other fanbases get amped when they play UM.
