MGoBlog's (not so) secrect obsession
I was checking something on Wordle for work this morning and decided procrastination was a better use of a Friday morning. So I dumped MGoBlog in (nothing new) and this is what came out.
Visual proof this board has been obsessing a little too much about that other in-state school. I knew there had been a lot of State posts recently, but I didn't realize it was this bad.
As for why "Thing" rates so high..well, here's the thing.
I understand this post adds to the problem.
Now to try to fix the problem:
Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan,
EDIT: Not sure what happened to the photo feed, should be fixed now for those who were confused.
that highlights common words/ phrases in a document (or on a website). I think the OP's pic is not displaying, so that is ausing the confusion.
Now I'm even more confused.
Now that the picture is displayed, makes a lot more sense.
of my life I've spent trying to understand this.
Meth?
This is completely misleading. "Michigan" and "State" are seperate words in that thing. "Michigan" is used a lot for obvious reasons. "State" is used a lot because a huge percentage of schools are "state" schools, like ohio state, penn state, michigan state, iowa state, etc
I thought it would be recruiting.
I am so confused right now.
Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, Michigan,

analyze all of mgoblog, or just the front page? I know sites like tagcrowd only look at the front page, not archives, diaries, board posts...)
I know this one.
Its Kate Upton right?!
I wish there was a way I could find out how many times I go onto this site a day. At least 50 times I come on to the website. Just checking things out or refreshing a thread etc.
You could just start keeping track of it...
I go on so much it's just a natural thing now.
I type the letter M and the first thing it goes to is this site.

Wordle is a tag cloud creator. You dump a bunch of text into the tool and it spits out an image with the most common words that are found within the text. The words used more frequently will appear larger, hence the word "Michigan" would probably be the biggest word followed by stuff like "Taco Pants" "Henri the Otter" and "Kork Coupons".
Of course, it is a little misleading, because you could pick and choose the days in which the text comes from. For example, taking text the day of the MSU game would lead to lots of mentions of MSU. Or taking the text from signing day probably talks a lot about never forgetting injuries. It is too time consuming to open up every article and link so I assume the author just copied and pasted text from whatever was on the homepage. Also misleading since the articles on the right hand bar contribute to that word cloud/tag cloud.
In conclusion, word clouds are the lazy man's analysis and rarely provide insight.
It pulls from the RSS feed which also grabs the MGo.licio.us content.
Michigan
hey man i don't even know what you're talking about
Let me fix it:
Kate Upton.
Are these unique Michigan State references? Or do mentions of "Michigan" and Ohio "State" or Penn "State" mistakenly make "Michigan State?" Could the "State" just be a combination of Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan State? And the Michigan just be Michigan?
Not to mention any other use of the word "state," e.g., all of our recruits in the state.
Yep. And if you look at a post like opponents watch, a quick counting shows 11 different "States" mentioned. Obviously Michigan is mentioned a lot in the same post, but stories like that, which are really not obsessive in the least, go a long way toward the apparent results from that word-cloud, or whatever you call it.
"The state of the blog"
"In-state recruits"
"Out of state recruits"
"Secretary of State Ted Valentine (or whoever it is now)"
BOOOOBS!
Oops. I mean Michigan.
State could refer to many different schools. It sounds like you are the one obsessed with MSU.
Michigan's two biggest rivals both contain the word "State." Fans naturally talk about their rivals. I don't get why this is a big deal...
The 'State' finding is misleading for the reason noted above, but I doubt any singular school (other than Michigan) occupies as much of MGoBlog as MSU does. We talk about them a lot, let's face it.
Finally!
I ran it again so I could see some of the words - it's pretty clear that we talk about Dakich a fair amount too, and perhaps even more interesting, enough of us made a mention of Les Abram in the "Prove You're A Michigan Basketball Fan" thread that his name comes up in the word cloud as well. Our biggest non-conference obsession? Probably everyone else's in Duke.
Interesting how small the "Ohio" is there.
But yes, the OP is completely wrong about why "State" is featured. As noted above, it's because OSU, MSU, PSU and others.
In it's current state, it is worth it to state that the state of this blog is fine. You state there is an implied obsession involving MSU, but let me just state, this does not appear to accurately characterize the state of mgoblog or the state of Michigan as a whole.
this: though misleading, as a visual of the interests of the state of things on this blog, or state of Michigan as a whole, it nicely presents its argument. Kinda funny, mis-stated tho it is.
It appears it's only grabbing the last month or so. Remember that "State" isn't just MSU--every time someone says Iowa State or Penn State or Boise State or Ohio State, etc. it will register.
This will provide additional fodder for the RCMB crowd. Oh well, they need something to do anyway, to take their mind off of the injuries and the weird guys.
Besides, if this site really had a Sparty obsession, the word would be 'Staee.' ;-)
