Beilein can't pick up a cell

Beilein can't pick up a cell phone and call the kid, but that doesn't mean there can't be communication between the two parties. Most kids have someone outside of their family (whether that's a coach, friend, whatever) reach out to schools to guage interest before they make a decision to transfer. Very few transfers initiate the process with no idea what their market would be.

Thanks SC!

Love your work as well

I don't agree with your Mone

I don't agree with your Mone take here. Maybe I have the wrong conception of him, but I wouldn't expect him to be the slashing pass rusher Mo Hurst is, so I was perfectly pleased with what I did see Friday - him consistently beating Mason Cole, with the exception of the long run.

He discarded him while rushing the passer, consistently held up to double teams without moving an inch, and hulk slammed Cole onto his ass on (I believe) a sprint-out. The bust on the Isaac long run was notable, but I'm not sure you could point to a single other play where Cole really beat Mone

EDIT: Nevermind it's been corrected

I personally know of two ACC

I personally know of two ACC schools who changed guard this offseason and told several of their commits this - we're going to honor your scholarship, but if you come here you'll never play - something to that effect. I'm not saying that to take a side, as I don't think that's what happened here, but it does happen.

With every guard returning, I

With every guard returning, I think it would take a cosmic nightmare for a true freshman (Bredeson) to be starting, if that's what you were implying

Especially bizarre since our

Especially bizarre since our OL graded out so poorly on PFF. I've yet to go through it in detail but it seems as though the tackles were making moves. I wouldn't be surprised to see Kalis grade out particularly negatively, though.

Steven Daniels had to go

Steven Daniels had to go JUCO, yes, but he was a 4* before that with pretty decent offers.

This comes up pretty much every year

But I still don't think I've heard of a program keeping a coordinator for the purpose of keeping a single recruit. Maybe they can negotiate a smaller position on the staff, though.

Haskins stayed committed to

Haskins stayed committed to Maryland because of Mike Locksley. If he's not there (which it doesn't look like he will be), Maryland doesn't have a great shot. Regardless of what Durkin does.

I wouldn't put too much of it

I wouldn't put too much of it on McElwain. When they had Grier in there, it looked they were going to make one of the most dramatic offensive turnarounds in the country, year over year. Not much you can do when you've got Harris or Del Rio as your options.

I'd be interested to know if

I'd be interested to know if anyone has Harris' completion percentage under pressure (real or perceived). I would be surprised if it was over 25%. That 3rd down pass rush (while keeping contain) is gonna be big.

Well, they've been to 2

Well, they've been to 2 National Championships in the past 5 years. Which, to me, is pretty good reason to go play football for them.

Star ratings are based on

Star ratings are based on potential super-stardom, NFL potential, etc. Coaches are not offering everybody with the idea that they'll play in the league, or even star on their roster. Consequently, the ratings and coach evals are not necessarily at odds with each other. This is Magnus' point.

Harbaugh talking doesn't mean

Harbaugh talking doesn't mean Harbaugh is deciding. Any time a committed recruit gets injured and has surgery, the athletic training staff for that school will receive the reports on the surgery, and make a judgment based off of that information. I guarantee you that this decision was not Harbaugh free-wheeling off of a whim, and that UM athletic training staff was involved.

Why in the world wouldn't

Why in the world wouldn't this look good? The medical staff decided Falcon wasn't healthy enough to play football. So they're not offering him the chance to play football anymore. It has nothing to do with his talent (which was borderline 5*, in my opinion).

Hill is also very talented. If the medical staff is fine with the reports from his rehab, and they want to bring him on board, they will do so. Their evaluation of his health will have nothing to do with his talent.

Harbaugh's whole deal is

Harbaugh's whole deal is constant competition. We're not gonna get the types of recruits who are afraid of competing with grad transfers (or other players at their same position in the same recruiting class) anyway.

MAC teams generally send out

MAC teams generally send out an enormous array of offers, and will generally do so before the big schools, though that's changed somewhat over the past decade or so (as the significance and commitment of an "offer" has waned). However, if you look at some of our guys on the team now (say, Jourdan Lewis) who committed early, you'll see that they had really nothing but MAC offers, then we came in, and they committed. They might have gotten other offers later in the process, but not really reported them.

Lyons vs. Notre Dame (note-the highlight focuses on Alex Carter, the CB that got drafted by the Lions. Lyons will always be on the opposite side of the field, if he's in.)

AC25 by downbreakdraft

Lyons vs. USC, rotates fairly regularly in this one. Didn't really let Agholor get anything going when he was covering him.

Lyons vs. UCLA, edited just to focus on him. Pretty good game for him.

He was the LBs coach, but

He was the LBs coach, but what I mean is Muschamp was the type of coach that was still essentially a coordinator as well. It's like giving Mullen's OC credit for his offense, or Patterson's DC credit for his defense. Muschamp made that defense.

He's a strong recruiter,

He's a strong recruiter, yeah, but those defenses were Muschamp's.
