Meta: No opponent watch, no UFRs this week?

Submitted by mGrowOld on November 6th, 2020 at 9:47 AM

Brian - we KNOW it's beyond painful to have to watch that sludgefart game again but your analysis of what went wrong and why is helpful in understanding what the hell just happened.  I know I actually look forward to reading the UFRs as much or more after bad games to try and make sense of it all from a purely football perspective.

And Opponent Watch is just funny.  Bryan Mac is one hell of a good writer (probably one hell of a good lawyer too) and reading those is just cathartic - especially after a game we just had.

Common guys - take one for the team here.  We're counting on you.

My guess is no but I'm with you mGrowOld. I am a football novice and appreciate the detail on what went right or catastrophically wrong.

Total homer and will never stop watching Michigan football but always trying to learn more and figure out if hope is warranted or not.

Not specific to you, but I REALLY cannot understand this attitude/concern that I see from many people on twitter etc. regarding the election.

Election results have pretty much been decided since sometime on Wednesday imo  - just a matter of waiting for one of the several dominos to fall.  Despite the bluster, past history has shown that legal challenges tend to not do anything other than delay the inevitable.

Is the hatred of the “Orange man” that strong that people have to “see the body” before truly believing he is gone?

I would opine that the bigger focus should be on the fact that outside of a few areas this was still a (very?) close election and therefore perhaps people should realize that there are a LOT of folks that think differently out there despite what one may see on their social media platform of choice.  ALSO the majority of those people are NOT racists or socialists etc. as social media would lead you to believe.  I hope we can finally work to find some common ground as a country after 20 or more years of identity politics.

He doesn’t even believe he is gone...  Despite what you have seen previously, this a different guy entirely.  He doesn’t play by your rules, & would not think twice to incite civil unrest.  You think you have seen this before, but you haven’t seen anything yet.  If you voted for Trump I don’t necessarily think you’re a racist, just a horrible judge of character.

All this from a fiscally conservative guy (me).

" ALSO the majority of those people are NOT racists or socialists etc. "

There are some socialists... but even our most liberal politicians aren't even close.

As for racists? They may not be... but there sure seem to be a lot willing to accept racism from an elected leader if it gets them other things they want.

Which is why he got a larger percentage of the non-white vote than any other Republican in the last 60 years in a m election that had more voters turn out then ever.  He’s so racist that more blacks, more asians, and a lot more Hispanics, voted for him more than any other politician on his side has gotten in a lifetime.

the fact is Trump lost white votes and picked up non white votes. He lost because of his personality and a heavy dose of white guilt.

As about as liberal of a person can be, I strongly agree with this. Let's find the good in each other, instead of emphasizing the bad. Common ground is needed in a functioning society.

I shouldn't even start typing this, but I think it is important to point something very clear out.

Republican's created and perfected the standard of it being ok to show open hatred and contempt for a sitting president of the other party.

Going back to Bill Clinton, there was only one reason he was impeached and it had nothing to do with infidelity or lying to a grand jury. Republican's didn't like him. He was bad for Republican politics in the south.  Republican's wanted him & hopefully the Democratic party to pay the political price. Keep in mind, how many of those Republican politicians at the time had their own issues with infidelity and lying.

When Barack Obama became president. I believe the very first public statement Mitch McConnell made as minority senate leader was that his goal was to make Obama a one term president. THINK ABOUT THAT! Someone who was responsible for looking out for the common welfare of our country and his number one priority was to make sure the president only served one term. What many Republican were willing to say publicly about Barack Obama was simply shameful and had never been seen before in U.S. politics.

So please, now that the Republicans "gifted" the rest of the country (the majority BTW) the Donald Trump experience, please do not resort to the "shocked! Shocked I tell you" naive innocent response of how could people hate the "orange man" so much.

Please. Just stop. If you want respect, start by showing it to those who deserve it regardless of their political affiliation and condemn the terrible things your own people say.

Seriously?  The Senate will still be GOP and the courts are right wing (if not hard right), so the next four years will have no substantive legislation of any flavor as the obstruction continues.  Meanwhile, the Roberts Court will continue to be a hospice for civil rights, voting rights, and fair elections.

I wouldn't be so sure about the GOP senate.  Democrats running around like it's black friday at Walmart with boxes of ballots stacked up on pallets.  This crap is funny as hell, actually.  Just a little disappointing that Republicans have never bothered to actually build political infrastructure in any population center.  Why are the democrats in charge of basically every voting precinct?  Democrats have always been in the business of winning elections; Republicans, not so much.  Good for them.
