MBB vs Wisc Snowflakes
Not a ton to say but a lot of interesting things happened. We lost 68-57.
Duncan hit some shots.Irvin had a ton of turnovers. We missed wide-open layiups. We shot less threes, and that wasn't the focal point of our offense. We shot a lot of mid-range. Doyle played better than Donnal (both played bad defense, but Doyle played well on offense.) One of their seniors had an amazing moment.

I won't flip with them in a heartbeat. I saw a great M team in the bowl. I will give you that MSU won the B1G, but their season was as ugly as it gets. They failed miserably in the playoff game. That was not a football that improved.

We look back at Lloyd as having great years disregarding some really shitty bowl performances.

the amount of injuries they suffered on the oline and the fact they beat OSU in Columbus with their backup QB's, I'd say that's a pretty good year.

Tell you what - next time UM goes on the road and beats both rivals in the same year, and loses 1 regular season game show up here and call the season a disaster and a failure and lets see how it goes.
There are a lot of young UM fans who cannot even remember beating both rivals in the same year - forget on the road or at home. There are a lot of young UM fans who dont remember a 1 loss regular season.
In your eyes UM must be a multi decade failure except for maybe 2-3 years.

Michigan won the NIT and many pundits proclaimed them the best team in nation after worst team in the NCAA tourney.
February 29th, 2016 at 8:19 AM ^
Rather lose by 30 in first Rd than win NIT every year. NIT is pointless unless you're a mid major.
February 28th, 2016 at 8:30 PM ^
I'd rather make the tourney and get killed in the first round

Winning the NIT, because I have to watch this incredibly frustrating team for 4 extra games. I just want it to be the offseason so I can be unrealistically optimistic for next year.

However, they've beaten the teams they were "supposed" to beat, I guess. What do you do with a team that is so predictable?

Look at this.
What if I told you we lead this series by more than 20 games?

Not for long

We don't lead that series. Not even close.
- vs ILL: 81-86
- vs IU: 57-106
- vs Iowa: 91-61
- vs MD: 4-5
- vs MSU: 97-80
- vs MINN: 91-65
- vs NEB: 12-2
- vs NU: 110-57
- vs OSU: 77-101
- vs PSU: 33-12
- vs PU: 67-86

That Bill Self reign of terror allowed Illinois to take the lead. Hopefully they keep Groce around.

You already saw the series record. It hasn't been competitive the entire history.
No need to beat a dead horse.

Who care about what happened in 1987 when those players could have kids in the tourney.

*Sigh*
February 28th, 2016 at 8:37 PM ^
They were supposed to suck. Even their coach retired so he could keep his top 4 B10 streak alive.
They had 0 hope, yet Greg Gard somehow got these kids playing like world beaters. Meanwhile, we're still waiting.
February 28th, 2016 at 9:01 PM ^
Ryan didn't retire to keep his top 4 B1G streak alive. This is a lazy comment. Dig a little and you'll know the background story to this coaching transition (it involves Gard's dad battling cancer and passing away. Ryan stayed around to allow Gard to get back on his feet).

have been whispering about how a woman Bo Ryan had an affair with got pregnant and the athletic department basically decided to save face and cut ties.

I don't know how much coaching has to do with putting 4/5 NBA players on the floor.
February 28th, 2016 at 9:04 PM ^
Yeah, what did Beilein have to do with recruiting and developing Burke?
/s
February 28th, 2016 at 9:09 PM ^
I think Burke was going to play in the NBA regardless of who his college coach was.
February 28th, 2016 at 9:36 PM ^
I don't. Good coaching matters. Look at poor Devin Gardner. Either way, Beilein brought him in.
February 28th, 2016 at 9:41 PM ^
Recruiting has nothing to do with his development. Yes he was a diamond in the rough, but remember Burke almost was a one and done. He didn't need Beilein, Beilein needed Burke.
February 28th, 2016 at 11:16 PM ^
Do you think Burke just walked onto Michigan's campus without so much as a phone call from Beilein? How is Burke going to Michigan totally unrelated to Beilein as a coach?
Did Burke not improve throughout the year? And improve his sophomore year? You can't totally separate talent from coaching. Of course Burke was talented, but giving no credit to the guy who coached him for 2 years at all is just stupid or intentionally blind.
February 29th, 2016 at 12:27 AM ^
Beilein recruiting Burke did nothing to develop him as a player. How does an offer improve a player's skill set?
I agree 2 years in college helped him develop but IMO he could have gone to any school and turned into an NBA level PG. Kudos to Beilein for identifying him before other coaches did.
Same for McGary, Stauskas, GRIII, and THJ. I think they could have gone anywhere else and still had the same level of success and end up in the NBA. I mean these guys showed up on campus and were contributors from day 1 and all left early for the NBA and were drafted.
