You need a coach who's in the mood to play perpetual underdog at Ole Miss, considering the conference it's in. Somebody who would essentially be the Mark Dantonio of the SEC, who gets his players to have a chip on their shoulder and can really develop overlooked players.
(Just don't act like Mark in other ways, okay, future coach?)

Why should they even bother trying to get a real coach? Their best success in recent memory came from just cheating their ass off. Fuck, they beat Bama even. It's not like they have a sterling reputation anyway, everyone thinks negatively of them and their university regardless. Might as well win football games for a year before they get vacated

I know it is popular and deserved to kick Ole Miss while there down but I really feel for Matt Luke. He has been one of the nicest and kindest coaches I met in my 5 years covering the SEC. He took this job when no one wanted it knowing he would be fired at the end because he played at Ole Miss and coached there under Freeze. He really is a good man, better than most deserve.

I've read that about Luke also. He was the ultimate "hired to get fired" guy - Ole Miss needed to hire a coach literally weeks before the season, a coach who would get them through their probation time, and he was the one who stepped up.
But you knew it wasn't long term (I thought Ole Miss may let him go in-season, just to get a jump on things search-wise).
I'm serious when I say this - I'd take a serious look at Lane Kiffin if I were Ole Miss. Presuming Arkansas doesn't get Lane first. Billy Napier down at U-La-La may be the safer choice, but I do think Kiffin would be the best "high risk/high reward" candidate.

Matt Luke was just a placeholder to get them through sanctions. A Rick Renteria type.
They have a good roster heading into next year. I think this could be a decent team next year if they don't fuck this hire up.
