it was a reference to this year's team and pretty much all the returners since 2003.  Some said "those who stay" when Jake Butt, Jourdan Lewis, and all the rest of this amazing class came back, and they did fall agonizingly short of a championship.

It was probably a comment of frustration that we haven't actually fulfilled that mantra for returners in a while and the saying rings a bit hollow these days.  I think everyone, even this guy, hopes it is fulfilled for Mason Cole and any returners in the future who aren't already champions.

Exactly...there is no other logical reason unless he's hurt. If the story of his mom shopping for Agents is true then its a done deal so why have him and this foregone conclussion become a distraction. Hope he has the game of his life on Friday and goes out with a W in his only bowl game until he gets to the Superbowl.

If Peppers was your son, would you tell him to turn down a guarantee in the range of $15 million to go back to school and risk injury for another year?

Didn't think so.  And I would be willing to bet Harbaugh will advise him to go if the estimate of Peppers going 3-5 in the first round is accurate.  $15 million is life-changing money.  It's life-defining money.  We enjoyed Jabrill for three years.  Let him enjoy the rest of his life.  He's earned the right.

He's earned the right to decide for himself. If he was my son he'd already have been taught that there are more important things in life than money. I'd tell him that I had no doubt he'd be successful in life regardless of this single choice and he should do what makes him happy... He's earned it.

I could be reading this wrong (and sorry if I am) but "more to life than money" seems offly dismissive of an amount nearing 15 million particularly given Peppers background and life to this point. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for him and his family to distance themselves from hardships of their pasts and money is a HUGE part of that equation. Nobody is arguing that he should do things that don't make him happy, but I think most would argue being selected in the top 5 of the NFL draft and everything that comes with that would bring some modicum of happiness.

If my son had your hypothetical son's attitude while turning down 15 million, I'd call him an idiot.

Michigan will still be here when/if Peppers wants to come back to finish his degree.

A chance to make 15 million dollars as a 20 something year old is fleeting. Take the money.

If Ruiz can start come September that would be huge to bump Mason out to either a tackle or guard spot. Onwenu can lock down one guard spot and Bradeson and JBB should figure into the starting 5. If no Filiaga or Ruiz do you roll with a 5th year Dawson or Kugler? Spanellis has great size but unproven as is Ulizio. Should be fun come Spring. Definitely a tad worried about this unit next year. We need some guys to overachieve and we need Ryiz and Filiaga to be ready to contribute year one.
