Mark Snyder joining Michigan State's staff
According to Bruce Feldman's source, former Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mark Snyder is joining the staff at Michigan State.
Michigan State already has co-DCs (promoted after Narduzzi left), so it is unclear what Snyder's role would be.
Former #TAMU DC Mark Snyder is expected to join #MichiganState staff, source tells @FoxSports.

He's going to be a POSITION coach. Where's the threat?

Not the Mark Snyder I was expecting it to be.

WELL, FREEP, GUESS IT'S ALL OUT IN THE OPEN NOW
Mark Snyder was a Spartan lover the whole time, OMG WHO KNEW!!!!!!!

Very disappointing.

why I kept seeing him at games.
Would've given him the, "Paulie? Oh, you won't be seein' him no more" treatment.

Absolutely my thoughts as well.

You could make an easy argument THAT Mark Snyder has been putting in solid work for MSU since 2008.

From the headline I thought you meant Mark Snyder, Jackass Free Press Writer. I was wondering what his position would be... Director of Leveling Unverifiable Accusations at Rivals, maybe?

could have topped Harbaugh to Michigan, it's this: Mark Snyder to MSU."

He must be a tough nerd to replace Pat fricking Narduzzi.
Edit: good lord Mark, not Rick. Ugh. long week. eh he still sucks at the paper.

Good for them. I hope they lose every game. To hell with MSU.

So they hired the guy A&M fired because their defenses sucked? Ok, whatever. Good luck to him.
January 8th, 2015 at 10:55 AM ^
He was a lousy head coach at Marshall and he was not good at A&M. Their defense finished LAST in many categories. Other than the fact that he was once on the OSU staff...I don't see why they went with this guy.

He was at OSU when Dantonio was the DC. That's probably the sole reason: familarity. He could be fine as a position coach, and loyalty is often pretty big in the coaching profession. As UM fans are intimately familiar with.
January 8th, 2015 at 11:09 AM ^
This tidbit gives the move a lot more sense, especially if he's not gonna be the DC.
January 8th, 2015 at 11:03 AM ^
MSU is OSU north. Dantonio idolizes Jimmy Tressel and all of the former OSU staff. That is one of the reasons he hates U of M

whatever the hell that is.

They were flat out bad.
They were 102 out of 125 in the NCAA's 'total defense' stat in 2014.
(to be fair, that probably includes the WVU bowl game which Snyder did not coach).

I don't know if a triumvirate of defensive coordinators is such a great idea. The First and Second Triumvirates in Rome were rather rocky, as I recall, and eventually it was Octavian (Augustus) who emerged as the sole leader in the last one. Needless to say, it took a civil war and some bloodshed to get to that point, but then again, they are Spartans and this is what they trained for traditionally, yes? Could be interesting on the sidelines.

Legit I guess...impressive hardly. The only impressive stop on there is OSU and that was over a decade ago.
January 8th, 2015 at 12:53 PM ^
Having played defense on a college football team that had Mark as a coach, I am not impressed. He didn't come off as the brightest guy. I was pretty amazed when he made it up to being a head coach. There are some coaches that are inspiring, some that seem like geniuses, and some that can easily relate and help their players. He didn't have any of those qualities.

Snyder was not good the past two seasons. Granted, he didn't have a ton to work with at the DT and LB positions (lacked bodies). Still, he underperformed. I hate to think how much worse A&M would've been on defense had they not had Myles Garrett this season (freshman DE who'll be better than Clowney).
January 8th, 2015 at 12:17 PM ^
He will coach the LBs primarily, which he coached under Dantonio at OSU. He'll also help out with DL and ST.
