Mark Snyder joining Michigan State's staff

Submitted by MGoVictory on

According to Bruce Feldman's source, former Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mark Snyder is joining the staff at Michigan State.

Michigan State already has co-DCs (promoted after Narduzzi left), so it is unclear what Snyder's role would be.

Former #TAMU DC Mark Snyder is expected to join #MichiganState staff, source tells @FoxSports.

From the headline I thought you meant Mark Snyder, Jackass Free Press Writer.  I was wondering what his position would be... Director of Leveling Unverifiable Accusations at Rivals, maybe?

I don't know if a triumvirate of defensive coordinators is such a great idea. The First and Second Triumvirates in Rome were rather rocky, as I recall, and eventually it was Octavian (Augustus) who emerged as the sole leader in the last one. Needless to say, it took a civil war and some bloodshed to get to that point, but then again, they are Spartans and this is what they trained for traditionally, yes? Could be interesting on the sidelines.

I'd say a solid hire, especially if he is being brought in as a positional coach. He has a pretty legit resume:
1988 Marshall (SA)
1989 UCF (GA)
1990UCF (LB)
1991–1996 Youngstown State (OLB/ST/LB/DC/DB)
1996–2000 Minnesota (DE)
2001–2004 Ohio State (LB/DC)
2005–2009 Marshall HC
2010–2011South Florida (DC/LB)
2012–2014 Texas A&M (DC)

Having played defense on a college football team that had Mark as a coach, I am not impressed. He didn't come off as the brightest guy. I was pretty amazed when he made it up to being a head coach. There are some coaches that are inspiring, some that seem like geniuses, and some that can easily relate and help their players. He didn't have any of those qualities.

Considering how laughably bad A&M's defense has been over the past few years, I'm happy to see him go to MSU. Hopefully he can help bring back the level of mediocrity and underachieving that Sparty fans were accustomed to seeing from their football team.

Snyder was not good the past two seasons.  Granted, he didn't have a ton to work with at the DT and LB positions (lacked bodies).  Still, he underperformed.  I hate to think how much worse A&M would've been on defense had they not had Myles Garrett this season (freshman DE who'll be better than Clowney).
