I do not see Fickell wanting any part of that job, it's a lateral move at best.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
Is it a lateral move though?
Money talks, and Dantonio was/is earning twice as much as Fickell's salary at Cincinnati. A lower tier P5 program will always have more resources, and exposure than even the top G5 programs like 99% of the time.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:23 PM ^
True on the salary front, but from a risk/reward look at things you would think Fickell would be smarter than that. Set up for success next year at Cincy as a stepping stone to a much bigger job than MSU or go to MSU where you risk walking into a tire fire, having a couple bad years and now you are not a hot name anymore. The risk associated with using MSU as stepping stone is just not worth it.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:09 PM ^
He has Cincinnati in a better spot than MSU. He can probably land a better gig in a season or two.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:03 PM ^
HOLY FUCK! I can't believe this really happened!
February 4th, 2020 at 3:04 PM ^
On February 4, 2020 Dantonio announced he would be stepping down, in shame, as head
coach of the Michigan State football team as a result of recent recruiting violations exposed
by former staffer Curtis Blackwell.[
This was from Wikipedia, before it was changed...
February 4th, 2020 at 3:04 PM ^
......though it really doesn't matter any more, which came first for Mork?... his: "pride", "fall" or "retirement"
February 4th, 2020 at 3:05 PM ^
Beat it Mork, you arrogant, enabling bastard.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:06 PM ^
Per Freep Fickell is frontrunner. That'd be a solid hire.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:10 PM ^
Maybe they'll hire Narduzzi.....
We can only hope
February 4th, 2020 at 3:12 PM ^
Wishful thinking on their part I think, what part of the job wouldn't be a lateral move for Fickell? He can easily get something better probably as soon as next year.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:40 PM ^
MSU has issues, but definitely better job that Cincinnati (I mean, Dantonio kind of proved that).
Also, Trieu is saying Fickell is a very strong possibility. Lots of rumblings.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:43 PM ^
When times are tough...... call Sandler....
February 4th, 2020 at 3:49 PM ^
In a vacuum it is, but if Fickell were thinking long term he would not take that job. Horrible recruiting class and losing 80% of your starters next year if he walks into that job versus having another 10+ win team at Cincy next year most likely that gets you a better job than MSU. He loses that hot name status if he goes to MSU and things don't go well for a couple of years.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:06 PM ^
At least he can start teaching ethics there
February 4th, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
I was actually hoping he would stay as they showed no sign of improving in the foreseeable future. Though, I cannot tell you how happy I am that his last game against UM was an absolute ass-ramming. Beautiful.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:07 PM ^
I’m gonna go against the grain here, Dantanio was the best scumbag to coach at Moo U. I like how he waited until his bonus kicked in before departing.?
February 4th, 2020 at 3:08 PM ^
Never forget Mark, you're not leaving a hero; you're leaving in disgrace. You're leaving the program you were charged with rebuilding in worse shape than you found it. You're leaving not having put Michigan in their place, but having Michigan still being your better. You're leaving with whatever legacy you and your supporters trying to lay claim to being tarnished by your questionable ethics and your lack of performance at the end of your career. You're leaving with Jim Harbaugh having exposed you for the fraud of a coach that your are. Let the harsh truth of that burn in that black pit you call a soul for the rest of your days.
Good riddance and fuck you.
February 4th, 2020 at 7:41 PM ^
Awesome, thanks Ferris. So true. Dantonio was unable to rise above the shitstorm in landfill that he created and that is his legacy.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:11 PM ^
No fucking way any coach worth his weight in salt touches that job.
It will (and should) become a coaching graveyard.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:28 PM ^
no kidding. This would be a downgrade for Fickell or Narduzzi.
The roster is garbage and who knows what NCAA sanctions the prorgram will be hit with given the newest Blackwell info. I have a feeling NCAA will be overly tough on MSU given the optics on the school for the past couple of years.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:44 PM ^
It's a Big Ten job. MSU has Big Ten money. They will get a decent name or candidate. But I don't think it will make a difference. MSU is going to be a tough rebuild whoever gets hired, and Dantonio made the transition much tougher by leaving the cupboard bare, no time to salvage a transition recruiting class, and raising the expectations of the MSU fanbase.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:13 PM ^
Timing is... rather odd....
February 4th, 2020 at 3:16 PM ^
No!!!!!!! I was so looking forward to beating his MSU teams over and over again. It will be less fun without his scowling face on the sidelines (though still fun).
February 4th, 2020 at 3:40 PM ^
We're still going to beat his MSU teams, he just won't be on the sideline to see it. 249 days Sparty. 249 days.
Prepare yourselves.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:16 PM ^
Cheaters and Liars NEVER prosper in the end they Always get caught and he got CAUGHT...good riddance
February 4th, 2020 at 3:31 PM ^
Ah, if only that were true . . .
February 4th, 2020 at 3:23 PM ^
Wow..I honestly can’t believe he did it. Then again, I should..,what a fucking coward.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:23 PM ^
Good riddance.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:24 PM ^
Somehow that entire offensive staff outlasted him....
Amazing.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:25 PM ^
That's bad news. They can only go up from here. I wanted Mork to stay,
February 4th, 2020 at 3:29 PM ^
They can absolutely go down. 7-6 is not a worst-case scenario for them. Remember Bobby Williams and John L. Smith?
February 4th, 2020 at 6:19 PM ^
I'm setting my sights for the second coming of Muddy Waters.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:25 PM ^
Going out on top in major conference sports is the exception not the rule. This is likely a positive for Sparty in the long-run unless they offer Rich Rod.
February 4th, 2020 at 4:16 PM ^
7-6 with a 34 point loss to your biggest rival who you spend the entire year planning for is "going out on top"?
Fuck that, Sparty is done. They don't get to face Rich Rod and Hoke every year while they try to rebuild, they have three guaranteed ass kickings in their division alone. Nobody is fixing that mess
February 4th, 2020 at 3:28 PM ^
Can't wait to see the list of delusional names RCMB trot out for his replacement.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:29 PM ^
Guess he didn’t want to stick around for another pummeling this fall.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:30 PM ^
This guy is hiring the next coach
February 4th, 2020 at 3:33 PM ^
Which one? The guy in the middle?
February 4th, 2020 at 3:38 PM ^
Lucky for us, no.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:51 PM ^
Most definitely, he's got more on the ball than the guy on the left.....
February 4th, 2020 at 4:17 PM ^
Gives new meaning to "it's not easy being green"...
February 4th, 2020 at 3:36 PM ^
Looks like every State fan I see at the local Costco on Saturday morning, right down to the oversized old man nursing home sneakers.

February 4th, 2020 at 3:37 PM ^
What an idiot, love when bad things happen to bad people
February 4th, 2020 at 3:39 PM ^
can't even tell you how disappointed i am. i wanted him to stick around for another ten years so we could keep kicking the shit out of his team. i'd even take the two losses we'd (inevitably) get, just for the eight times he whined and pouted and dignity-ed his way off the field.
February 4th, 2020 at 3:39 PM ^
I don’t understand why anyone is happy. This could be bad news. I didn’t want anyone new to come in and change their current culture. Not that it will matter for 2020 but a new head coach can always attract that player who’s on the fence for 2021 and beyond. Hopefully they hire a Bobby Williams after nick saban ditched them. With that said Mork can go fuck himself. Sparties winningest coach ended up being a loser both on and off the field.
