March Madness Day Two
Day two of March Madness is underway! Florida Atlantic leads Northwestern, 20-19, at halftime. Some great basketball is being played there... Baylor leads Colgate by 10 points early.
The biggest story from yesterday was of course Oakland beating Kentucky. Also somewhat interestingly, huge amounts of people seem to think Oakland is located in California, not in Michigan...
What games are you looking forward to today? What will the upsets be?

That clean block is a very strong case for review, especially in the last 2 minutes or so. Criminal.
I get what you're saying but we already have enough reviews. Every game has 5-6 reviews at the end. It's getting ridiculous.
I agree. But what's one more stoppage to make a correct call? If there's going to be 5-6 review, 7-8 isn't much of a difference.
Or 9, 10, 11... by that logic!
They should cut the amount of TOs per team in half. Each stoppage/review is like a free timeout, so that would even things out a bit.
I am hoping for an MGoUpdate on how yesterday's games affect our thoughts on the coaching search. Whose stock is rising, whose is falling?
Medved is out. Dusty looks out. Kampe looks in. But plenty more opportunities to make large decisions based on small sample sizes today!
Medved/CSU 11 pt 1st half disqualified him as far as I'm concerned.
May/FAU 20 pt 1st half vs Chris Collins/NW 19 pts are making the list look worse. Although 2nd half has perked up.

People who want to eliminate a candidate based on one bad half of basketball remind me of the folks who wanted Bakich fired after we lost to Lawrence Tech.
Well that would imply that we want to fire these coaches, rather than not hire them.

Kampe coaches Oakland University. I played golf with him this summer and he cheated.
Don’t be surprised if one of those guys is hired by early-middle of next week.
Even though we all understand how stupid it is to be watching tournament games--or just snippets of said games--while trying to evaluate coaches we may never have heard of 10 days ago in order to determine who might/should be Michigan's next head coach....here we are playing Friday feelings ball!
I've had NW vs. FAU on in the background for the past hour and Chris Collins' squad made him look like a pretty darn good coach today. Dusty May's squad, OTOH, looked pretty discombobulated at the end of regulation as well as in OT. Small sample sizes mean next to nothing but it's hard to ignore what's happening right now in front of you.

I am currently at work and it hasn't stopped snowing all day. On my way to work, I got stuck behind a plow truck that was using both lanes of the interstate and driving at 20mph. To add to the chaos, one of my coworkers keeps yawning loudly every five minutes, which is, of course, making me yawn. On top of that, the Doordash driver is an hour late, which is making things worse. I am not sure if this is what they meant by madness, but I am very glad it's Friday!
I work for a major hospital and our entire Epic system was down for about 2 hours this morning. Chaos ensued. I was able to catch up on emails though.
A plow thought the road conditions so poor it essentially ran a traffic break, yet you ordered Door Dash & are bitching they're late?!

Not if you're a fan of turnovers :) I was listening to it, and I feel so bad for the play-by-play guy who had to keep coming up with new ways to announce a turnover.
I think I will pass on Dusty May as far as the next head coach goes.

I’d take him. But it seems like I’m in the minority there. Northwestern is not an easy place to win.
I would too. He's essentially performed miracles at NW. The team is so poised, no panic in them.
I understand why people like that he's had success at a difficult place to find success. But I think there's some recency bias due to this year being probably his best team so far. This is year 10 and NW, and 7 of those years featured 15 or fewer wins. I just think his ceiling isn't very high.
