Maize Out Monday

Submitted by cmedacco on October 17th, 2022 at 3:35 PM

Folks, sure seems like a lot of us are rearing to go for our next game. Personally, I’m sick of the Sparty shit and ready to beat their ass. I’ve heard mentions on here and twitter that we should try to create another Maize Out and make for another memorable experience and atmosphere for our boys that night. Saturday was awesome and the stadium looked great with almost everyone coming prepared appearance wise and bringing the noise.

With that being said, are we in agreement that we should make this a Maize Out for the night game? I’ve also heard people mention Blue Out but I think the Maize might pop better at night and not look so dark. If we can agree that a Maize Out is a good idea, should we start spreading the word here and on social media? What say you?!

People will wear maize, I wouldn't worry about it.

The vibe in the stadium has been different - I think 2019 was the tipping point, if I had to put my finger on it. 2020 wasn't a real season, 2021 was fun too.

Majority of the attendees are Zoomers, Millenials, and Gen X. Boomers are fewer in number.

Attending games has been fun.

There are so many good songs for the DJ to play and yet other than 'Pump it up', his playlist sucks. On that note - can we move past Mr. Brightside already?

Let’s the kids have fun! It’s clear that most EVERYONE enjoys it. I can hear it on the broadcast and it’s glorious. You are like the Michigan TFG complaining about JJ not throwing for 400 a game just because you need something to complain about. Focus on the 99% of the experience you already enjoy!

1) I don't really care what the song is about. Seven Nation Army is about gossip and dating, per the band members themselves, and that doesn't make it any less awesome for sports.

2) Not sure what your source is on the players thinking it's cringe, but even if that's true, the song is for the fans, not them. The purpose is not "get ready to play football," it's to engage/hype up the fans. Which it does, exceedingly well. Choosing stadium music based on tastes of the players is akin to calling plays based on the opinions of fans.

It is a little odd.  The song seems to fit more situationally.  It hit the right note against MSU in the rain, and last year after years of shit Michigan moves past OSU and Covid year to break the curse.  But I don’t think it fits like “jump around” that gives the right feels every game.

Nothing says “I’m ready to play football” more than a guy singing a song lamenting that his ex is getting railed by somebody else.

You're not wrong, but spiritually that song really does captures our fanbase's zeitgeist for this millenium like no other, so might as well own it and make something fun out of something dark.  Superficially the song is about your crush sleeping with, but it's really about the narrator *thinking* about that; in short, Mr. Brightside is about going thru and surviving BPONE.

I'm sorry, but this is such a garbage argument regardless of what side you're on. Nothing says "I'm ready to play football" more than a guy singing a song lamenting that everything will be downhill from here and you know what? I might as well commit suicide while it's good. Right? Except oh, Power by Kanye West is on every flipping sports pump up playlist that has ever been conceived of.

You can dislike Mr. Brightside, that's perfectly fine. but stop fucking pretending like the lyrics have or have ever had any relevance on the formidability of a song to be played at sporting events.

It would seem that Mr Brightside gets the crowd engaged.

What might you suggest?   Oh, perhaps some DJ playing "more contemporary" music?  Or, replace it with Sweet Caroline?

How about picking two fans to throw out routes to two other fans?

This "boomer" is in his 45th year of being a season ticket holder and I'm willing to bet I made more noise at The Big House than you did Saturday and every week.

Same for the other boomers I tailgate and attend the games together with EvErY. SiNgLe. wEeK.

Ok, I’ll pile on.  The DJ sucks.  I can’t find a discernible difference between any of the songs and they are all terrible.  Yes, I was born in the 1970’s.  Yes, I put punctuation on my sentences including 2 spaces after every period.  Play some rock music!  Get off my lawn.  Go blue!

I am only 100% supportive of a Maize Out.

My primary suggestion is that Warde Manuel make sure the order for 120 thousand pom poms is delivered in time for the game.
