LOL Sparty: RCMB Thinks Urbs is an Option
If I were them I would check on Belicheck’s interest before I made a commitable offer to Urban. Maybe Bear Bryant as well.
November 18th, 2019 at 6:46 PM ^
He doesn't give a damn about the whole state of Michigan.
November 18th, 2019 at 7:42 PM ^
I want him to take it so we can call him Urbane Meijer.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:15 PM ^
I want him to take the job so I can run into him with my car at a high rate of speed. When his insides are all over my windshield I’ll say, “Oh no! I’ve got Coach Urban Meyer on my windshield! There is CUM covering my entire windshield!! I’m gonna need a big ass roll of paper towel!!!”

a little premature.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:50 PM ^
Sharty has a hard on from UM (Urban Meyer that is) sporting a green tie on Saturday.
November 18th, 2019 at 6:48 PM ^
They legitimately think they can hire Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, Matt Campbell and PJ Fleck. I mean, delusional is kind of an understatement. It’s almost insulting to a rational college football fan knowledge that they think they are even nationally relevant enough lure big time coaches. And why would Luke Fickell go to MSU? Cincinnati is ranked in the top 20, MSU is .500 in their past 50 games or so. How stupid are they?
November 18th, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
"How stupid are they?"
I mean, they're MSU fans...
November 18th, 2019 at 8:08 PM ^
Fickell would go to MSU because its a Power 5 job and Cincy is Cincy where the ceiling is basically where they are now. He'd also probably get like a 60-75% pay increase from his current $2.3M salary. I mean...that one isn't hard to figure out or see happening.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:53 PM ^
Fickell going to MSU would based on more than salary.
What other job might he get? How hard will it be to win at MSU? What kind of security and support will he get?
Fickell is in a good place now. He can afford to be careful with his next move. Chris Ash made good money taking the Rutgers job, but he also set his career back. Following Dantonio might be a challenge of it's own. If the job opens up after a contentious dismissal, it will be no fun for his successor.
November 18th, 2019 at 10:01 PM ^
Following Dantonio with the cupboard empty is a double barrel shot to your coaching future.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:14 PM ^
That’d be a pretty dope coaching staff
November 18th, 2019 at 8:20 PM ^
I could easily see Fickell taking that job assuming he doesn't get offers from other big time programs. I have a feeling they will go after him, he will turn them down for a better job offer, and they'll end up with Narduzzi.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:26 PM ^
I must disagree with you.
I do not see Fickell leaving Cincinnati for anything but an MSU or another Big Ten job. I am probably wrong--but he is a classic "Stay in your lane, Bro" guy IMO.
November 19th, 2019 at 8:44 AM ^
Nice handle choice.
November 19th, 2019 at 7:03 AM ^
Fickell apparently said he was uncomfortable playing OSU this year as the HC at Cincy; he's from Columbus and has been OSU forever. I'm not sure he'd want to play them every year.
Also, he'll have better options than the 4th-best team in the East division.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:51 PM ^
To be fair, there was also the "intellectual honesty" thread where the guy said, "Michigan State is not hiring Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, Matt Campbell, PJ Fleck, Steve Spurrier, etc. It will not happen. Luke Fickell is a maybe, but it also seems like he is going to get some bigger offers."
November 19th, 2019 at 12:51 AM ^
Nah, let them live their lies it's actually funnier this way from an outsider perspective. To think they are so delusional to not realize their success directly hinged upon our chaotic coaching changes from 07 until we get Harbaugh is hilarious. They think that is their standard of success. They've got a whole lot of heartbreak to come when they finally at some point realize that was the exception to the rule and not the standard!
November 19th, 2019 at 3:37 AM ^
Since being named to the playoffs in 2015 MSU is 1 game under .500. Big oof.
November 19th, 2019 at 11:48 AM ^
How stupid are they is a rhetorical question, right?
November 18th, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
Well, he is good at covering shit up and ignoring shitty behavior by his players.
November 18th, 2019 at 6:50 PM ^
Pride before the fall....delusion after the fall.
Narduzzi would be the best guy they have a legitimate chance at hiring in my opinion.
November 18th, 2019 at 7:06 PM ^
But isn't Pitt a much better gig than MSU? Why would Narduzzi give up that job? The MSU job is a mess.
November 18th, 2019 at 7:35 PM ^
It's certainly a far better school, by reputation and rank, as is Minnesota (there's also a lot of talk of wooing Fleck). Dunno whether Pitt's boosters and alumni are as avid as MSU's? Certainly--historically--Minnesota is a bigger football power.
November 18th, 2019 at 7:59 PM ^
No, Minnesota is not historically a bigger football power than MSU.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:06 PM ^
You’re a fucking idiot. Try learning about the history of the Big 10.
November 19th, 2019 at 8:34 AM ^
Don’t be too hard on him. He’s new.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:45 PM ^
Historically, yeah. I think Minnesota has seven or eight NCs, MSU two or three. Curious that you're so vehement when you're so wrong.
November 19th, 2019 at 12:32 AM ^
Very few college football fans would consider Minnesota's NC era to be recent enough to consider at all relevant. We are talking more than 60 years ago.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:58 PM ^
In fairness, Minnesota is not a bigger football power than MEU over the last 60 years, which is a very long time. Sure, go back to 1900, and it has a better resume.

Fleck just signed a 7 year extension. He isn't going anywhere.
November 18th, 2019 at 7:47 PM ^
Anyone will take more money so it depends on compensation.
November 18th, 2019 at 8:33 PM ^
The shine is starting to fade a bit for Pitt fans. He's managed to eek out enough close wins against bad teams this year to look like an attractive option and might be looking for an exit strategy and cash in on a decent record before reality probably sets in next year. Staee is the perfect sucker to hire him based on his glory years there.
November 19th, 2019 at 9:46 AM ^
I know he's got ties to MSU, but Narduzzi's record at Pitt is 35-27. That's not exactly tearing it up in, by far, the worst ACC division. You're right, It might be a better move for Narduzzi, than for MSU, and I don't think that's what their fans are expecting. Unless the money is crazy, I can't see Fickell making the move. Coaches at Cincy (both in football and b-ball) have proven that you can have a good career at Cincy, until your "dream" job comes open. Recruiting Cincy is probably the easiest job in Ohio. Their President is brand new, they have an AD with no previous experience and they have all the baggage from the Nasser fallout. To me, that screams either a hire from the FCS ranks or someone from the lower ranks of FBS who's looking to get back up. My candidate: Charlie Strong
November 18th, 2019 at 6:55 PM ^
This is bullshit, but I had heard that Urban used to steer players from Ohio, that they didn't want, to MSU, so they wouldn't go to Michigan.
November 18th, 2019 at 7:08 PM ^
I think that was a Tressel thing.
November 18th, 2019 at 7:12 PM ^
Incorrect. It was Tressel who told his ex-assistant Dantonio about good Ohio players that Tressel didn't have room for @ OSU. That stopped once Urban became coach.
November 18th, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
Bullshit, yes. It supposes that Dantonio couldn't possibly find and scout those Ohio players without Tressel's help.
November 19th, 2019 at 8:49 PM ^
It supposes that Tressel steering recruits to Dantonio made it easier for him to sign them. I'm sure that Dantonio was already recruiting some of those players.
November 18th, 2019 at 6:56 PM ^
I nominate Mike Hart. He's paid his dues as IU RB coach and has earned his shot. I truly cannot think of any better outcome for all of us.
