Bad look for a elected regent, in my opinion.

[I believe it's time to lock this thread up. For the most part we've kept the discussion civil and I thank you all for that.

At this point, I think all the angles have been covered well enough.

Besides, there's Sweet 16 ? to enjoy. ---rob f]

A sad state of affairs that it's now considered "political" to condemn someone who calls female elected officials "witches" and then suggests that they and other elected officials should be assassinated.

This has become the go-to response of every Trump supporter in reaction to any criticism of his chronic lying, bigotry and other egregious behavior.

This has become especially the case with any Republican who dare speak out against Dear Leader;  they are called RINOs, disloyal, etc.

Many criticisms of Trump have nothing to do with his policies or the letter next to his name.  They have to do with his obvious lack of character and other awful personal characteristics.

Noone mentioned his political affiliation.  To me, his party, gender, etc.  are not important.   Noone affiliated with U of M should behave this way, and if they do people should know about it.

This post isn't about "Democrat" leaders, it's about a U of M Regent.  Any Regent publicly joking about assassinating a politician he/she doesn't agree with is embarrassing for U of M, and should be for anyone who supports it.

Nessel seemed to take the witches comment in stride, tweeting an altered photo depicting her, Whitmer and Benson wearing witch hats. She wrote: “Witches who magically decrease Covid spread, increase voter turnout and hold sexual predators accountable without any help from the legislature? Sign me up for that coven. Do better, Michigan GOP.”

Weiser is one of those people that believes because he is ridiculously rich he can do or say anything he wants.

U of M needs to disassociate from him and stop taking his money.  Unfortunately, being rich in this country means people let you act like a deranged a-hole as long as you keep giving them large amounts of money.

Elected officials should be able to perform the job they were elected for without walking on egg shells.  They know re-election is coming.  Never has one of them harmed me that I am aware of.  That is my Upper Peninsula take on the matter.  My only concern starts in 27 hours when UM takes on the seminoles.

In what world is someone walking on eggshells just because they should refrain from calling three elected women "witches"?

In what world is someone walking on eggshells just because they should refrain from talking of "assassination" of those they disagree with, even if only a joke? This is a country with a sad history of assassination of our political leaders.

"Elected officials should be able to perform the job they were elected for without walking on egg shells."

Problem is, his asinine statements, especially the one suggesting assassination, are inexcusable regardless of his party affiliation.

This has nothing to do with walking on eggshells as an elected official but everything to do with his responsibility to all of the State of Michigan to perform his job properly rather than be flippant and ignorant while promoting violence up to and including murder.

I don't GaF if he thought he was being "cute" or "funny".

People will probably stop calling these women “witches” at about the same time they stop calling every conservative a white supremacist, which is what Nessel and Whitmore have done repeatedly for the last 3 years. It turns out that demonizing generic conservatives as Nazi/ Hitler supporters may result in some hard feelings. The language needs to de-escalate on both sides.
