It’s just betting lines. If online betting were legal here in SC, I’d put down $100 on OSU to cover. Yes there’s the possibility we lose by <7 and I’m both sad and out $100 but I find that chance very slim.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:37 AM ^
I’ve heard that called “buying happiness” because either way you have something to be happy about but obviously better to do with money line.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:46 AM ^
Smart way to buy happiness is to play the money line. Play the spread and you’re set to be furious if UM loses by three.
November 26th, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
My friends and I have referred to this concept as “fan insurance” for years. Essentially we determine how much a win is worth to us, and we are buying the win by betting the opponent’s money line. If our team wins it’s great; we got what we paid for. If our team loses we get our money back plus significant interest. The key is finding the balance so that you’re still happier with the win; if you find that you want the money more than the win, your bet was too big.
November 26th, 2021 at 11:19 AM ^
I have always referred to it as an "emotional hedge".
November 26th, 2021 at 2:16 PM ^
Much easier to do when Michigan is favored!
November 26th, 2021 at 8:02 AM ^
Did this fit the MSU game and it definitely feels better to be up $100 after a loss.
November 26th, 2021 at 8:48 AM ^
nope, ML is what should be played in this case.
November 26th, 2021 at 9:21 AM ^
I love money but I will never ever bet against my team, spread or no spread.
November 26th, 2021 at 9:54 AM ^
Facts. Never. Bad Karma at its finest. Yay we lost!!! Picture that.
November 26th, 2021 at 6:20 AM ^
i will be rooting for our wolverines and will be in attendance, but if i'm being candid i'll be shocked if we're within 7 pts of ohio when the clock goes to 0:00. could happen, but i just don't see it. we're a very good football team but they have so many institutional advantages that have only piled up in their favor these last 20 years. if we win it will be nothing short of a Christmas miracle delivered a month early.
November 26th, 2021 at 6:45 AM ^
I'm not a gambler, but I am a fan. I will be rooting hard for the home team.
Hoping for a running back room performance for the ages to crush the Buckeyes.
Happy Thanksgiving XM.
November 26th, 2021 at 6:53 AM ^
could happen, but i wouldn't bet the farm on it.
and happy thanksgiving right back at you, EQ. i hope yours was enjoyable.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:24 AM ^
Much like Tim Biakabutuka in 1995 vs those same bucknuts!!! My dad and I were at that game!!
November 26th, 2021 at 6:57 AM ^
Merry Christmas XM.
You’re going to be very happy around 4pm Saturday.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:19 AM ^
from your lips to God's ear, oh let it be so.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:19 AM ^
I think we are the best team they will have played this season, and they'll be playing it in our house. They haven't looked like a death star against everyone. I am ready to kick that ball, Lucy.
November 26th, 2021 at 1:05 PM ^
We're definitely the best team they've played plus I keep seeing the forecast for crappy weather which typically keeps the scoring down
November 26th, 2021 at 6:33 AM ^
Talking about the game yesterday with my daughters father in law, who’s also a buckeye fan. He’s nervous as hell as is any sensible buckeye fan who doesn’t use X in place of M and dropping words like scum on a regular basis. The concession was that Michigan really should have no shot in this one, that’s where I’m at. Another side of me wants to believe that Nebraska, Penn state, Minnesota and even Tulsa were actually teams disrupting what OSU wants to do and not them self imploding. I’ll approach this game with the energy and enthusiasm as any other year while fully guarding my ball sack so the proverbial kick doesn’t hurt as much as years past. The spread here truly means nothing and I sure hope by the half that the team and fans aren’t just waiting for the clock to hit 0.
November 26th, 2021 at 6:53 AM ^
My in laws are all from Ohio too. Used to have to make the trek to Canton Ohio for every single holiday. Thanksgiving was the worst (as you can imagine). Thankfully my wife disowned all of them so we don't have to do it anymore.
November 26th, 2021 at 8:08 AM ^
My family was originally from flat rock and we moved to Ohio when I was young , so I have lived here the better part of my life and these people are assholes. The wife ordered me the new Jordan sideline jacket and I wore it to the grocery store the other night and was told by a buckeye fan who looked like the big nuts stunt double, that”someone shit on my coat” as he stood there with what may have been his grandson.
November 26th, 2021 at 8:17 AM ^
Shoulda hit him with "The Jerk Store called, and they're runnin' outta YOU!"
November 26th, 2021 at 9:35 AM ^
I have a buddy who is a reasonable fan of THAT school. He hates other fans of THAT school for this reason. I had a similar run in with someone at a store who told me "Michigan fans have to check out at the back of the store". I smiled, but apparently since i never guffawed that prompted him to hit me with, "hey man, its just a joke". Told my buddy about it and he said i should have hit him back with "roll tide".
November 26th, 2021 at 7:06 AM ^
I can see why rational Bucknuts are holding their breath, if only a little bit for this game. I've heard the same from my B'nut friends (who all things considered are good and decent people despite their clear lack of sports fandom judgement).
Michigan is going to be the best team they will have to face at this point in their season. Better than Oregon. Better than Penn State (and yes, Michigan is a better team than Michigan State). OSU is and should be the clear favorite, but this isn't going to be just a walk in the park for Ohio State. They rely on first and second year players at RB and QB respectively. Handling pressure on the road is different for young players than it is playing at home, and the Big House will be nothing like their young starters have experienced before. They have a good and talented defense, but they are not world beaters either (I would put them relatively on par with Penn State).
As much as Michigan fans talk about what OSU has in store for us, it's also worth remembering we have some things in store for them also. We're not on the Bama/OSU/UGA level, but we still have a pretty damn good team. I firmly believe we are OSU's toughest matchup of the season. It's understandable why some of their more objective fans might get some butterflies a little bit, despite the fact they are the clear and rightful favorite in this one.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:13 AM ^
Your daughter's father in law should be nervous as hell. He realizes what the bookmakers are saying, this is going to be a very close game.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:59 AM ^
I guess I don’t put much stock in what the lines are. If I did I would have bet and lost on a few games this year…Sparty. I just feel like we’ll have our ears pinned back from the 1st play and CJ hasn’t faced ends like we have in Hutch and Ojabo. The OSU keyboard warriors, never been to a game fans are dismissing our pass rush which I feel is a mistake. Days gonna want style point and will be greedy in this one. I believe once Stroud gets lit up once his youth is gonna show and it’s game on. I don’t frequent other teams boards, but would love to see 11 warriors showing puppy dogs and rainbows when the clock hits zero.
November 26th, 2021 at 8:43 AM ^
I don't know. I've always been amazed at how close the Vegas bookmakers usually call it.
November 26th, 2021 at 9:37 AM ^
Bookmakers have liked us in this game other times in recent history, and not we didn't cover or even win any of them.
November 26th, 2021 at 6:49 AM ^
Maybe because chance of snow increased to 69%
Nice
November 26th, 2021 at 7:24 AM ^
I follow NOAA for the forecast for games (Pretty accurate). It looks like snow chances have gone from about 5% to 20% in the last couple hours, Here in West Michigan snow arriving after the noon hour on Saturday
November 26th, 2021 at 8:24 AM ^
Crisp, classic-sounding prose. Is that Hemingway?
November 26th, 2021 at 8:03 AM ^
I know that favors us some because of OSU’s air raid but I feel like they could grind one out if they had to. Nothing would suck worse than getting beat at our own game. Maybe all the California and Florida 5stars would be to busy watching the pretty snow to give a shit about playing football?
November 26th, 2021 at 10:03 AM ^
Because you just had to believe in their team more? Unbelievable the thought processes of man. I don’t think we could run the ball, but of course Ohio could because they could. Unbelievable!
November 26th, 2021 at 11:26 AM ^
Never said I don’t believe in our team. But I’m surely not gonna discount a team who’s loaded with talent on the line and a stable full of highly recruited running backs ability to pound the rock because they can also pass well. To just assume if it turns into a wet fart contest then we would automatically benefit is ignorant.
November 26th, 2021 at 6:55 AM ^
Maybe it is because OSU has had a cake schedule especially the road portion. They have not faced anything close to that with which they will be dealing on Saturday.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:19 AM ^
THANK YOU! You're the first person on the board that I've noticed who mentioned that!
November 26th, 2021 at 8:14 AM ^
Maybe because A2 has felt like a neutral site the last 3-4 yrs. hopefully not this time. If any Michigan fan has a voice on Sunday then they need to be ashamed. Any “down in fronts” need to be swiftly escorted out of the stadium and replaced with a fan who didn’t have a ticket. Washington was insane and we need this to double on the decibel chart. I was flying to Miami the Sunday after Washington and chatted up some fans who thought the atmosphere was incredible and weren’t expecting it for all the bad they heard about the big house.
November 26th, 2021 at 6:56 AM ^
I’m very comfortable going in as 7 point dog. I saw one book where it was at 6.5. We’re essentially 1 play away from winning. I like our chances.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:09 AM ^
What? No Source? Are you running your own book Gustave? Because BETMGM still has oSU at -8.5 at 7am ET. Line hasn't changed in days.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:20 AM ^
vegasinsider.com college football matchups. Thanks for the tip, I'll send some action MGM's way!
November 26th, 2021 at 9:39 AM ^
I'm seeing 8.5 as the Vegas Insider consensus. If the line ever dropped it went right back up real quick.
November 26th, 2021 at 9:20 AM ^
Line hasn't moved at Bovada either. Opened OSU -8.5 and still sitting at same line.
November 26th, 2021 at 10:26 AM ^
There are a variety of books raging from 8.5 -6 with the average being 7.5.
Caesars, Fandual, Pointsbet, Superbook all at 7.5 which seems to be the consensus.
The Vegas Insider tracks a lot of them. The line does seem to be shifting slightly in UM's favour.
November 26th, 2021 at 7:16 AM ^
I know that we are all spent after what has happened over the last 17 seasons. But I feel that people ignoring some very important points.
OSU has played four road games against teams with a collective record of 17-27 with Minnesota being the only team with a winning record (7-4). Nebraska was robbed by a bad PI no call.
OSU is playing against their toughest defense on the road. Where Michigan has only given up10 points per game at home. And that number is distorted because of garbage time (Rocky Lombardi touchdown run for instance).
Yes the OSU talent on offense is unmatched. All of their skill players are world beaters. But they are also young. Stroud is a redshirt freshman who hasn't played in front of 110,000 people in the game.
November 26th, 2021 at 8:16 AM ^
The talking heads pile on the ache lades forgetting his youth on the big stage. We need noise and a team that believes. I think we will get both.
Momentum is the 12th player.
November 26th, 2021 at 8:24 AM ^
against the Oregon game Stroud took a late hit. You could tell the hit rattled him. He had a hard time bouncing back from that.
I'm not advocating dirty play. But my point is that this team is so dominant, they don't know how to handle getting punched in the mouth (like Oregon did that day).
November 26th, 2021 at 8:43 AM ^
And Oregon was without their best player that day. OSU hasn’t faced a lineman of that caliber so this will be uncharted territory for them. I really see Hutch playing like he rammed an 8 ball up his snout before he takes the field. I honestly think outside of getting pushed beyond the qb, which is probably their best defense of him, that he’s gonna wreak havoc. If that’s the case then keeping a RB to help is just gonna free up a side for Ojabo to headhunt. I love Ross but seeing some speed at linebacker no matter who it may be, Barrett or otherwise isn’t a bad thing.
November 26th, 2021 at 9:56 AM ^
"rammed an 8 ball up his snout."
-I'm gonna steal this one. ;)
