I am a Cavs fan (got their TV as a kid, World B. Free era) and I can't say I'm excited with the prospect of Izzo coming on board. I was hoping more toward an experienced NBA level coach or that Gilbert would go crazy with the wallet for experience (thinking crazy like Riley or a free agent Phil Jackson or something). Tom Izzo certainly meets Gilbert's MSU myopia...and it would help M basketball...

As a Cavs fan I always hoped for better.

If I didn't have a very deep-seated belief that it would be great for the game if LBJ stayed home in Cleveland, I would think it would be really funny if LBJ told Izzo yes, Izzo signed with the Cavs, and left anyway.

... but he doesn't know it.  This is just a smokescreen put out by LBJ's camp to keep options open and the buzz alive.

You can be sure Tom the drama queen will act the part until Gilbert gives him an ultimatum:

LeBron will not do anything before July 1, and Gilbert can't wait on a head coach that long.

It's also clear that Gilbert's comment that LBJ had no input into the firing of Mike Brown, the release of Danny Ferry, and has no input in the search for a new head coach was and is utter BS.

If he is honestly considering the job, I don't see how he could handle it any better. He's not saying anything besides "I still need more time." That's all he needs to say, and all he should say in this situation.

If he already knows what he's going to do, he should announce as soon as possible, but it seems like he's being thorough. It's not an easy decision, and it would make things infinitely worse if he was holding a press conference every day saying, "I'm 89% sure I'm staying. No wait, scratch that, 47%. Uhmmm, ok maybe 50% for now."

If it is the case that Izzo’s decision hinges on L. James (as it appears), then this whole thing has been handled horribly. Those details should have been worked out with more discretion before it all became so public.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

I don't think the Cavs will wait until July 1 to sign a coach, because then there's no way they'll sign LeBron. He's not going to sign on w/ the Cavs if there is no coach on board already. It's like one of those conundrums in the movie "Catch-22." I can't remember what those situations are called. There's a word for it though.

Lebron might be 100% behind the Izzo hire, but the Detroit News, Free Press, 97.1, etc would not.  I believe the Wojnowski headline today reads, "Sometimes I Tickle Izzo's Balls, Other Times I Gently Massage Them".

I'm not sure how many other ways the locals can plead in print/radio for Izzo to stay, but the next story is likely to be how Izzo is the only one who can plug the BP leak and that if he leaves for the Cavs, there will never be peace in the Middle East.

Izzo - You're a great coach, but your self esteem is severely lacking.

Saying "no" does not take this long, requires little explanation, and certainly does not require any press conferences, etc.  Izzo has commitments to Spartan hoops, some occuring as we speak.  This is about picking the right moment to say "yes," which contrary to "no," in this instance, requires a lot of preparation and explanation.

So long Tom, thanks for all the ass-kickins.

but Atlanta was not this long, and it did not have this feel.  What has clouded a lot of minds about what is taking place is horrified Spartan fans trying to figure out a way that this saga could end with him saying no.  They simply cannot believe that it is happening.  If you look at the developments without Spartan fans narrating it for you, it is pretty clear he is taking this thing.  He is letting them down slowly, he has requested "some space" to "figure things out."  I have been kicked in the nuts by enough chicks (figuratively) (well, actually literally as well)  to know what comes next.  He is gone.
