Another kid from Ohio. Rated #658 on the 247 composite.

Also, Ben Roebuck another huge OT(6-7 320) rated #11 in Ohio just got a crystal ball to Michigan. Allen Trieu also crystal balled DL Roderick Pierce to Michigan. He was committed to Wisconsin.

IIRC, Harbaugh was "above board" and quite straightforward about his conversations with NFL team last year.

And, after the decision was made - Harbaugh stated that he would not entertain conversations about coaching on Sunday in the future, and was intending to be Michigan's head coach for as long as Michigan's AD would like him in that position.

That being said - my guess is - Warde Manuel would be happy to have Harbaugh as Michigan's head coach for a very long time.

I'm not sure being "above board" isn't going to make a player feel better about him not entertaining the NFL again.  The fact is, he wanted to leave so all that matters is whether someone trusts that he won't try to leave again.

I think they should be able to trust that because 1) the NFL wasn't even interested and 2) he's getting older so they're unlikely to get more interested the further removed from the NFL he is.

Not that it matters since people will say and believe what they choose to but...

  • Harbaugh was quite upfront about exploring his NFL options last year.
  • Harbaugh explained that he made an initial 7 year commitment to Michigan in 2015 and at the end of those 7 years (2021) he was going to look around.
  • While there has been a lot of loose talk about Harbaugh and the NFL in the years between 2015 and 2021 there is no evidence it was anything other than hot air and hot takes.
  • Just like he said, Harbaugh did look around in 2021, most famously with the Vikings.
  • After not getting the Vikings job Harbaugh made a renewed commitment in which he stated he would stay at Michigan as long as Michigan wanted him. There has been nothing in Harbaugh's actions to suggest his word is not good.
  • And finally, despite all the fanbase consternation to the contrary, all the media bloviating, and all the negative recruiting, Harbaugh followed his 2021 success and subsequent weighing of options with the best season of his career.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this but recent commit Luke Hamilton had some interesting comments about his OSU recruitment.

Luke Hamilton traveled to Ohio State to watch Michigan defeat Ohio State, 45-23. From that point on, Hamilton knew he had to pull the trigger.

“After going to Ohio State and seeing how they treated us, and it wasn’t on the good side of treating people,” he said. “My dad (Steve Hamilton) looked at me and told me to pull the trigger now… I think (Michigan) is the right fit for me.”

“At Michigan, I always feel like I am at home. Even before I got the offer, I always felt like I was at home,” Hamilton said. “Going to Ohio State, I was kind of on edge on whether they were going to treat me good or are they going to treat me bad. As soon as I walked in the door, I could tell that there was not good energy.”

According to Hamilton, he felt like Ohio State took his recruitment for granted because he lives in the state.

“(Ohio State) did this to all of the in-state (recruits). They put us on the back burner and will wait until the last second, because they think they have us committed there if they offer, which I think is totally stupid. That is not how that works at all. I’ve talked to linemen all around Cleveland and people that I know and they all feel the same way. … I think Ohio State is taking too long and I don’t think they are doing it right (at this time).”

I love the sentiment and will take any OSU slander recruits can use to get a chip on their shoulder, but if you look at the 2024 recruits in Ohio, of the Top 9 in the state (i.e., the guys in the top 300):

- 5 are OSU
- 2 are Michigan (1 is a commit; other is a lean)
- 1 is LSU
- 1 is TBD (has OSU and Michigan offer)

...and that's great progress for us! Two of the top 5 in Ohio haven't gone to Michigan in quite some time. But it's not true OSU has "put all the in-state recruits on the back-burner." Just Luke Hamilton & perhaps a couple of his buds (which is good for us!)

It is nice to see us rounding out the '23 class. I am hopeful we can get 2-3 last second flips like we did last season to really finish this thing off. However.....

I can't help but keep looking at 2024... that class has the potential to be really special. Just chock full of 4 stars in that 75-150 range nationally, sprinkle in a little Jadyn Davis.... oh my

The greatest defensive Wolverine of my fandom is Charles Woodson from Fremont, Ohio.

The greatest offensive Wolverine of my fandom is Desmond Howard from Cleveland, Ohio.

Arguably my favorite player on this Michigan team is Rod Moore from Clayton, Ohio (I do love the overlooked guys who are just great football players, like Moore, Mike Sainristil and Mike Barrett).

But my favorite player ever is Michigan native, Michigan legacy, Heisman finalist, second pick in the NFL draft and the top rated recruit on what was supposed to be a shitty recruiting class, Aiden Hutchinson.

Yeah I think Roebuck is one of the guys Luke Hamilton was talking about being slow played by OSU. Roebuck liked two tweets today that said:

1. "I would have never dreamed I'd see a day where this headline would be real. When recruits visit Ohio State and leave with Michigan as their leader. Glory be."

2. "Worst recruiting weekend for Ohio State in history."

At this point, I am 100% at the 'trust the coaches' level when it comes to evaluating talent.  We've proven time and time again that we can coach them up and put them in a scheme that allows them to be successful.  Welcome to the program Jason!
