Lane Kiffin may be the dumbest person on earth

Submitted by freejs on

That play call, when they got the ball back on the OSU 25, I can't even.

Alabama had success running the ball all night. The power sweep, they went away from, because, I don't know, it was working too well?

Can anyone think of another single play call that was that responsible for a loss in a bigger situation?

Every pass play they called on first down that wasn't a run disguised as a pass play was unforgivably stupid.

I can't even fathom Lane Kiffen's decision making in that game.

Credit to OSU - they fought hard and made the plays they had to - but they got some kind of assist from Kiffen.

Meh, objectively, OSU might have the most stockpiled talent in the nation, they showed-out that second half athletically, it wasn't just coaching. Which clearly goes against the national media narrative.  As much of a perceived sin as it is here to note...Dantonio has a great deal of underrated talent at his disposal as well. That may sting, but the silver-lining perhaps, is that Michigan despite it's abysmal coaching these last few years also, it surely follows, has real and darn decent talent as well, and the common meme of "SEC/ Southern SPEED!!!1" meme should be dead henceforth. Peppers, Norfleet, and Ty, are atheletes very much in the mold of "ZOMG atheleeeetes!" Add in some HARBAUGH and....

There were a lot of bad choices by Kiffin tonight but that play you're referring to was not one of them. OSU was expecting a run to Derrick Henry and Kiffin chose to try and go for the kill on 1st down. That INT was all on Sims, he had his check down (DeAndrew White) WIDE open in the endzone and just went with his first read and threw it right into the coverage. Brutal decision making.

Kiffin and Saban should be much more ashamed with their clock management in the last series. That was Hoke-style mismanagement.

I think it falls on their D. Yeah, the O playcalling ranged from terrible to bizarre, but Alabama is known for their D. I am shocked they played so passive and predictable on D. Jones was starting the second game of his career. They had to blitz more or at the very least show blitz.

I don't think Alabama respected Cardale Jones's ability to run. He's not a great runner, but they kept getting out of their pass rush lanes and allowing him to scramble. And he's good enough to make them pay for that.

I think you're exaggerating a bit. Blake Sims is a damn good quarterback. I have a sneaking suspicion Kiffin and Saban know Blake's skill set and mental makeup much better than us fans. It didn't work; bad plays happen sometimes.

how do you disagree with that?

Please, tell me, what percentage of the time did Henry not make it to the second level?

How is this not a legitimate beef?

just a few minutes later. If the qb had put just a small amount of air under the ball, Bama takes the lead. Yes I can think of a lot dumber calls, but too many of them were made in the last four years at UM.

Tonight. The defense looked beat up and that got worse throughout the game but Kiffin was the biggest problem. How can you get the ball 25 yards away from the endzone and not get points out of it? The old Al Borges halfback pass? Atrocious.

Been so good for so long they looked lost last night trying to get back into it. Every play seemed desperate. I wanted OSU to lose.....but watching Bama flop around like that was funny.

Henry averaged 7.3 per rush and Yeldon 4.7. Both are future NFL backs. Yeldon was hurt, it appeared, but why weren't they feeding these 2 the ball and then run the occasional PA pass to Cooper (the best WR in the nation)?

Sims isn't a great Wb and OSu didn't stack the box

This is why Kiffin was fired. His players knew that he's arrogant and wanted to win with Sims looking like Phil Sims.

I guess if you don't win a football game you can always go back to play calling to some degree in every instance.   How about OSU at the end of the game leaving extra time on the clock because they threw the long pass on first down in their last series.   Crazy?  Maybe, but not dumb.  Just not the best play call either (since it didn't work).  Anyway, after reading the title I thought it was old clip of Lane on Jeopardy missing an easy question.   And, what if he's a little bit smarter than you.....think.

in the Pats/Rams Super Bowl. They had Marshall Faulk at the peak of his dominance and for some reason they just stopped getting him the ball in the 4th quarter.

but that game did seem pretty mismanaged, iirc.

I was rooting so hard for the Patriots back then, as the Rams fans had become pretty insufferable, so I wasn't thinking through the game from the Rams' perspective.

I have to agree with your sediments on this one. That game was extremely frustrating to watch not only because Ohio pulls the upset, but also because of Lane Kiffin's extremely poor play calling.

I felt like he completely abandoned their game plan half way through the second quarter and it clearly cost them the game imo. Ohio has a very athletic front four but they are not the biggest guys and surely not as stout as bamas Oline. Why would you not run the ball? Sims seemed like at best a competent QB, but he seemed rattled the whole night. Honestly that's okay if your Bama. If that's the case you turn around and hand the ball off to Henry and Yeldon; two of the best RBs in all of college football. That should have been the game plan the whole night. If it wasn't the gameplan for whatever reason then shame on Saban and Kiffin because they were straight up outcoached.

As a coach I just could believe what I was seeing. It was so bad when Ohio punted the ball the their own 23 yard line and Bama doesn't run the ball. It also to seemed like they were trying to throw the game. If I was watching film on this game the next day and I'm Lane Kiffin I have to be sick to my stomach. Yes the kids did not go out and execute (like hoke said) but the play calling was terrible, particularly in the second half. just run the ball and I can guarantee you would have won.

Yes, maybe some of Kiffin's pass plays could have worked, but Sims wasn't passing all that well.(3 int. including pick 6) Saban and Kiffin should have realized this early on and adjusted accordingly. Just run the damn ball. Protect the ball with gashing run plays. Sustain long drives with your power backs, keep your defense rested and keep OSU's offense off the field.

The one who openly cheers against Ohio State even if it benefits the Big Ten to have OSU win last night?  That is definitely an OSU thing to do and it always bugs me.  I can understand if you don't want OSU winning a National Title and cheering against them on January 12th, but to be this pained by a OSU victory against Bama is a bit ridiculous.  Leave that kind of stuff for Buckeye fans.

OSU has what? A 45% chance to win in a week?

That means a 45% chance of a fucking nightmare.

Yeah, Meyer recruiting OSU as a place that wins, not just competes, for national championships?

OSU crowned the winner of the first CFB playoff?

How does it make sense to not root for the 0% option???
