Lance Dixon(PSU) has transferred to....West Virginia

Former top player from the state of Michigan that went to PSU. Many thought this was a lock for us to land him, with Allen Trieu even giving us a crystal ball for the transfer.

He was born at the wrong time. Younger comics have the chance to get on YouTube, Netflix specials, movie roles, etc. and brand themselves in many more ways.

I think there's a big group of comics who would have been much more popular if they had come around 10-20 years later, like Martin Short, Bill Murray, John Belushi, etc. Those guys would have been the Will Ferrells and Seth Rogens and Jack Blacks.

What the fuck? Bill Murray is a much bigger star than Ferrell and Rogen. And Jack Black? Seriously? John Belushi died young--and as funny as he was social media would only have exposed the massive drug problem and what an absolute prick he was, especially to women. Martin Short basically has the star power of Jack Black, which sucks because I do think Short was robbed of fame worthy of his talent. Martin Short may be the most talented comic of the people you named.

I agree with all this except, I think Will Ferrell is a very special talent. Just look at his movie credits. Anchorman, Step Brothers, Elf, Talladega Nights, Old School, etc.... I love Will Ferrell, so maybe I'm a little biased, but he is the most talented of that group named. Belushi, might be the most overrated, and that could just be because of the length of his career.

You seriously think John Belushi is in the minority in Hollywood when it came to having a drug problem, and being a prick?  That's literally 99% of Hollywood.

Ever watch the montage of acceptance speeches from people praising Harvey Weinstein?  Its hilarious.  Notice Mel Gibson welcomed back even after a history of being blatantly anti-semitic, and using the N-word?

Nobody would give a flying fuck about Belushi's drug problem if he was delivering $100 million box office.  Look at how they edit all of their films so that China will let them do business there.

Ricky Gervais said it best, if ISIS had a streaming service, these people would have their agents contact them.

Again, what the fuck? Belushi overdosed. That's a bigger problem than 99% of drug users since the vast majority of people who do drugs, even those with a serious problem, don't overdose. He became unreliable because drug binges mean missed call times, and missed call times mean an idle crew which is still being paid, which means increased costs cutting into that box office, which means angry producers who put the word out not to hire you because you're unreliable. That kind of thing happened before social media. How many notable films have you seen Mel Gibson in since "I hope you get raped by a pack of [n-word]s"? Thankfully, virtually nothing. Or Johnny Depp since...whatever the hell is up with that guy now? And Belushi's films didn't make enough at the box office to lead anyone to tolerate his excesses. I'm pretty sure The Blues Brothers flopped then made a mint from home video.

Done. From Wikipedia:
"Gibson's controversial statements resulted in his being blacklisted in Hollywood for almost a decade.[209] Robert Downey Jr.[210] and journalist Allison Hope Weiner[211] advocated for forgiveness for Gibson in 2014. In 2016, Gibson's film Hacksaw Ridge received Academy Award nominations, and actors and agencies were becoming eager to work with him again, which was perceived as a "thaw" for Gibson.[212] "

Blacklisted for almost a decade. Anyway, yeah, research.

Back in 2012 I invested in the remake of "Death of a Salesman" on Broadway.  Not a ton of money but enough that I qualified as a producer so my wife and I got to attend opening night and go to the after party.  This was the last thing Phillip Seymour Thomas did before he OD.

The party was crawling with A list celebs (my wife sat and talked to Meryl Streep for about 30 minutes about makeup) and we ended up at a high table where we were joined by Martin Short and Bernadette Peters.

I'm 6'5.  Martin is MAYBE 5'5 and to say he had a raging case of small man disease would be an understatement.  Bernadette was very nice but man Short was not.  It was uncomfortable.

The other funny thing about that night was Bill Hader really took a liking to my wife so I had to run him off from hitting on her more than once.

I was very politically involved and informed at a very young age, and remember watching an interview with my favorite band at the time on MTV, whoever they were. Just listening to their responses convinced me to never ever listen to artists about politics or anything outside their art ever again.

I don't even remember that I disagreed with them that much, just that they didn't have any clue what they were talking about. Get them back on their music, or something that related to it, and they were geniuses, outside of that, it was like stupid kindergartners talking.

Over time I've come to the conclusion the better the artist, the more focused they are on their craft, and the less likely they are to have knowledge outside what they need to know, and social skills outside what they need to get by.

Would be interesting to know if he just decided WV was a better fit, or if this was another example of transfer issues with accepting student-athletes from other schools.

I cannot believe that there would be that big of a gap between PSU/MI and hope it is not a situation of MI just would not accept transfer credits making WV a better destination due to the gap.

You should believe that there could still be issues with transferring credits from PSU to MI. I started out at U of M Dearborn and transferred to AA after 3 semesters.

I had to fight for about 70% of my credits to count, and I was coming from one of Michigan's SATELLITE CAMPUSES.

It's an issue no matter where you come from.

It could also be WE decided he wasn't that good of a fit and weren't really recruiting him (other than for home state show).

Also, geographically, maybe he put down some roots in the Happy Valley area. WVU is pretty close, 3 hours away. Pitt is the only other school closer. He'd hardly be the first guy to go to college and find a local-ish woman and want to settle down.

Lots of things happen to 20 year old kids that make no sense to people outside their circle. It's what makes being 20 so awesome and weird (in retrospect).

Seems like an odd choice. A highly ranked defensive player transfers to a conference where defense is optional...

Wish he would've gone Blue, but best of luck to him.

Santa says nothing but a mountain of coal for him in his stocking for Christmas next year.

Also WVU in the Big 12 still seems weird to me...

A shame it is too difficult to transfer in as an undergrad for most.  I doubt the M faculty will change anything as it affects many more people than just a few athletes (and I get the feeling that M faculty and admin are pretty stodgy in general).

On a separate note - It was never clear to me that Dixon was a good fit in what we presume the new defense will be -- he seemed closer to a safety/viper hybrid than what I expect the OLBs to be in this system.  Also - outside of his ranking as a recruit (the PSU folks LOVED to count him as a 5-star since he was rated that by 247) -  I am not sure what the big allure was for Dixon; he had yet to show much of anything on the field at PSU

Bonus item - There are some rumblings that MSU may be in good shape to land portal LB Q. Crouch from Tennessee.  (sounds like the most likely options are MSU or stay at UT).  I know M felt strongly in the mix for him --4-star ATH/LB #61 overall in 2019-- as a recruit until UT "mysteriously" jumped to the front.  If M couldn't make a credit-transfer work for an in-state kid it must be a complete pipe dream for a kid like Crouch - which would make sense that we haven't heard anything re: him to M except immediately after he entered the portal.
