Is Jon Teske an NBA lottery pick after this season?

Under the tutelage of Howard, Teske looks set to make big strides this season after a giant leap forward last year. He's 7'1'' and decently athletic. With a year under direct coaching from Howard, I imagine he will be a better prospect than many of the 7' guys who have historically gone in the top 5 picks.

I don't pay a lot of attention to the NBA draft process anymore, but is this feasible? Based on game, it certainly seems so to me.

No. He's a very good college big. He plays good defense and he can, in college, contribute well on offense.

But he's not particularly athletic. He doesn't have an offensive game that will translate to the NBA. His defense is great in college but wouldn't be remarkable in at the NBA level. There is nothing in his game that demands he get on an NBA floor.

Look at the video of bigs that get drafted in the first round. They are crazy athletic, or they have a full-floor offensive game, or usually both. Teske is neither of those things. He might make a roster and grind out a game as a rotation player if he can grow enough on defense, but he would be a hole on offense in the NBA and his defense and rim protection just aren't dominant enough to justify hamstringing a team's offense like that.

Before anyone answers, they should ask themselves what the answer would be if Teske played for a team that didn't wear Maize and Blue.

Love Jon, but methinks some people are answering what they wish or what they hope he will be this season, and not what he is.

He’s more likely not to get drafted at all, than he is to go in the lottery. He looks like a second round player to me, but I’m no expert.

Teske had a great game tonight especially in the 2nd half. I like his chances to improve under Howard in the post and possibly find his way into the NBA next year.

Currently Livers is the main player NBA scouts are looking at. (There were a few at Crisler tonight in fact). He's having a breakout year so far and will be one of the three leaders on the team. I like Livers squeaking into the first round either this year or next.

Go blue. Great win against a really good offensive shooting team in Creighton. I was actually a bit concerned this game. But the 2nd half was a great defensive effort by Michigan.

He's a generation too late to get a chance to run as a traditional post. The lottery isn't in play but if he can improve his 3 point shooting to be more like 40% then his size and ability to defend could well have him making an NBA roster in the future. Not everyone is going to have a productive NBA future but even if Teske never makes a significant impact, he can set himself well for the rest of his life with a few years of NBA paychecks.

Don't think he's a lottery pick and a chance at the NBA actually all depends on his ability to make big strides with hitting the 3 which is where that game is at today. His college game matches up very closely to where Bill Laimbeer's game was when he was in college. Laimbeer went on to hone his long range shooting which made him a mainstay in the NBA.

I was surprised how badly Teske was getting beat on the boards last night.  For his size, he should come up with more 50/50 rebounds IMO.  There were times where it looked like DeJulius was a more aggressive rebounder.

That and his outside shooting are probably the two biggest things holding him back.  He’s an otherwise good defender and solid offensively around the rim.
