How many of us wouldn't have grabbed the opportunity to work out with professional athletes the summer after graduation, pulling in decent summer money in doing it? NFL teams carry 5-6 quarterbacks at this time. I don't know the exact numbers, but about once every three seasons, someone gets a start in the NFL who might have fallen into O'Korn's category at first. During the season, most teams carry two players and have a relationship or understanding of some sort with a third. If it's a top prospect, protected on the 53-man roster. If it's a promising young player who isn't remotely ready, on a practice squad where any other team can sign him to a 53. Or someone who isn't quite good enough to keep around, but has spent enough time in camp and practices, knows a good percentage of the playbook and can be activated as a backup in an emergency while the free agency pool is scoured. It's not like O'Korn's getting real reps or would even play in an exhibition game, but he's going to be out there with NFL players and he has an arm. So if lightning strikes in his development, it's not impossible. Good for him.
