That's not what I took from his words

“There was a tugging at me that I was once that close to a Super Bowl and I didn’t get it. Some NFL jobs came open. I was contacted by the Vikings. For better or for worse, it was something I wanted to explore...

“I called Warde [Manuel, the Michigan athletic director] and I asked him if he wanted me to be the head coach. And he said, ‘Yes, 100 percent.’ And I said, OK then. That’s what I want to do.’ And I told him, ‘Warde, this will not be a reoccurring theme every year. This was a one-time thing.”

I’d like to think Harbaugh is a man of his word, and he explicitly told Warde after last season that this was over and a one time thing for him.

Of course, that won’t stop teams from contacting him and just asking, throwing out an offer to see what happens, but Harbaugh has never seemed to lie about his intentions since he’s been here. So I’ll take him at his word until he gives me a reason not to.

Seriously I'm surprised a franchise with 5 Lombardi Trophies in the display case would have a ceremony for a team that finished second. But they made a great run at it.

I’m sure Harbaugh’s doing it because of his admiration for the players, and I’d be surprised if he isn’t still in Fuck Jed York mode, but I really hope it has nothing to do with mending fences with York to make himself more attractive to other NFL owners.

Please. We’re all adults here, I assume. Harbaugh has admitted winning a Super Bowl is one of his dreams, and one that he already came agonizingly close to fulfilling. He chased that dream just a few months ago, but in the end it was the Vikings that made a different choice, not him. NFL owners are a pretty cozy fraternity and I doubt his dislike for York, no matter how righteous (and York is definitely a little prick who did Harbaugh very wrong), sits too well with many of the other owners. Mending fences with York might be something he has to do to give himself a better chance at a future job. Sorry if real talk upsets you.

Not upset. Just saying that instead of just congratulating and moving on, you opt to introduce a theory that is far fetched. You think Harbaugh is a guy who goes out of his way to mend with someone like York so he can get a different job? I see it as you weaving a conspiracy theory and trying to support that with what happened last year. Carry on

I didn’t say that’s definitely one of the reasons he’s showing up for the reunion, but how is it far fetched? Just a few months ago, Harbaugh went hard for an NFL job. Despite being the rare coach who has achieved success in both the NFL and college, he didn’t get it. Neither did he seem to be in the running for any of the other open jobs. I wonder why?

It's far fetched because he has 100% clarified that he doesn't have any interest in leaving, now that he worked through his contract with Manuel. He has never once gone against his stated word here. Not once, and he isn't the type to do so either. You're just saying shit to stir the pot, as usual. Please stop.

Are you  seriously saying you think the NFL blackballed Harbaugh because he supposedly hates York because York sabotaged his season? You are out of your mind man, If Harbaugh wanted another NFL job after San Fran he woulda got one hands down. Oakland may have been in play I am told. along with the Bear, Jets,  and Dolphins. Harbaugh wanted the right situation, the Vikings met him and probably though he was weird... just a guess. Now he said he is done and that guy is nothing if not a man of his word.

I agree, good for coach.  It is exactly who he is as a man and coach. He is 100% behind his players. He’s a good man.  It will also 100% be used against him on the recruiting trail.  The likes of James Franklin, king of negative recruiting, will trot this out as evidence JH still is thinking of leaving.  That’s a fact, IMO.  But coach will still do what’s right for his players, as he should.

"It is exactly who he is as a man and coach. He is 100% behind his players."

This is JH. It's so frustrating that his honesty isn't taken with the straightforwardness and truthfulness of which his statements clearly indicate.  When has JH ever gone back on his word?  THAT should be a discussion--if there is any evidence of such---we'd all be surprised.

Spoiler--there is no such evidence.

Take a honest man at his word.

He's our ball coach!

It might very simple - he just liked that particular team - got asked and accepted - nothing deeper.

OR...

1. He is swinging out there to check out some recruits and having your name appear in the local TV with the words NFL and Super Bowl never hurts recruiting. Of all the so-called name head coaches in college, he is the one who legitimately was a NFL success and got a team to the Super Bowl - so when he talks FB with kids and their families his resume is serious. Saban, Meyers, Holtz, Chip Kelly, etc. all were unmitigated FLOPS.

2. He is swinging out there to check up on possible future assistants. The current group may stick around another year or so because maybe it is fun and if it looks like they have a pipeline set up of good OL, DL, RB and DB.

This will - and already has - raised eyebrows.

There's many innocent potential reasons for why he's going there, but it won't be those that some people focus on.
