Was Senior not allowed to talk to Junior? It would make for strange family dinners:

Senior: Dear, can you tell your son that he needs to look at Michigan

Wife: (sigh) Junior, your dad wants me to tell you that you should give Michigan a chance.

Junior: Listen Mom, you tell dad it's my decision and I will decide on my own time

Wife:  (sigh) Do I really have to keep repeating this? I mean you're both right here, I know you both hear what each other is saying.

Maybe its just me, but I really dont think it would be a tough place for him to meet expctations. Worst case scenario, he isnt very good and people kind of forget he is on the roster. Best case scenario, he is an NFL level TE and everyone loves him. Most likely scenario, he is a solid contributor and everyone thinks its awesome how he is a good player on his dad's team and people talk about how awesome it is that he followed in his dad's footsteps.

If he goes to ...UCLA... for example, he has no "shadow" to live under, is still compared to his father  by UCLA fans, probably gets less attention, and he doent get the chance to share his college football experience with his father in a very special way (maybe he doesnt want to, but I am assuming he would enjoy it...I think most people would).

The choice is obviously his, I am a bias observer and I am making a few assumptions, but I would totaly go to Michigan if I was Ty Wheatley Jr.

Sr seems to be taking an admirably hands of approach and letting his son decide for himself. I remember he came with on one of the visits (Spring Game?) and basically dropped Jr off and went and did his own thing with alumni and former teammates.

There are strict rules regarding contact with coaches during camps. An overzealous staffer at a camp once stopped Patrick Beilein from talking to his dad.

There are rules regarding what coaches can say to the media about their children while they are recruiting them. There are rules designed to keep them from having an advantage in recruiting friends and teammates of their children. There aren't any crazy rules keeping them from doing normal parenting activities.

If we had three kids, we had a game. I loved being outsite and playing. The kids these days always have some electronics in thier hands with their heads down. Most are chubby, too.

As an 18 year old would you really want to "go away to college" where your parent worked? Let alone see them every day. College is about spreading your wings, and most kids would rather do that away from their parents.
