I totally understand this and am willing to tolerate it for one or two games a season. Anything that gets young people excited about the team, despite mediocre performance, is a good thing and their love for the school will hopefully grow beyond jerseys and socks eventually.

But those shoes are ugly.

B

I could do without the stripes on the numbers. I think they'd look much better solid.

Was there a season where Michigan had blue pants for the away uniforms?

For some reason I seem to recall a story where players requested to wear blue tops and pants for the bowl game?

To me, the shoes are far worse than the pants. I don't really mind the blue pants that much, but a Michigan team, a team that blocks, that tackles, that takes care of the ball, should always wear black shoes!

Not likely to see the stripes from the stands so it'll just be blue pants that's different. I still don't really care but I don't think this is as big of change as we've had in the past.

My uncle is a MAJOR Spartan fan.  I grew up seeing his MSU paraphernalia all over his house, which included a poster of a big X through the Block M with the caption "No Blue" on it.  His hate for Michigan is what you'd expect any MSU fan to have.

Today, he sent me a text about Michigan's alternate jersey for the PSU game, basically asking, "WTF?"  And then he said something that I couldn't agree more with:  "Michigan is in a category with Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, USC, Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama.  You have a classic, historical look that you DON'T mess with.  Even if it's just one game. Every other team in America, they can do this alternate jersey crap but these schools?  No."

This from one of the biggest Spartan slappies on the planet.  And he's absolutely right.

...but these schools?  No."

Among the top ten winningest programs in college football, virtually all have rolled out an alternative uniform in some form or another over the past 5-10 years including two of our biggest rivals, OSU and ND. Texas has experimented with alternates in their spring game.  Even Alabama has subtly tweaked their uniform over the past few years with houndstooth piping and numerals.

I don't necessarily disagree with you or your uncle, but it is what it is.  Alternate uniforms are hot right now and the schools you mentioned are not immune to the trend. Kids from traditional powers love things that are new or different just as much as kids from less traditional schools.

Let's face it. Between the alternate uniforms, the advent of the college football playoff, and the talk of paying players, we need to realize that the game many of us grew up loving is gone forever.

As for Michigan's latest alternate uniforms, I think It's kind of funny how nobody bats an eye when the hockey team wears all blue -- it's a great look -- but add blue pants to the football uniform and everyone pitches a fit.  For what it's worth, I do think these new Michigan uniforms look sweet, and this is coming from a guy celebrating his 45th birthday today.  I think the all blue looks more intimidating.

In the name of all that is holy, why? Because the kids think it is hip. We are soon going to be sponsored by LA Gear with 1974 Houston astro stripes across the front. I've never seen an athletic department so alienate their fans. Does the athletic department hate us? Why are they trying to make us so angry. What is next ...white helmets? FU Adidas. FU athletic department.

The retail jerseys look a bit more unappealing with so much more sleeve for the stripes, I think, but the jersey looks good on Devin. Plus, the blue basketball uniform is my favorite.

Love the traditional haters. New traditions has been started. It is bitching about everything. Jake Ryan and Ray Taylor helped design these, so if the players like them I couldn't care less what some loud mouth fans think. Tradition is just a thing fans use to act like they are better then other fans. Winning is what makes you better not tradition.

I like the "team 135" (on the arm of the shirt) in the video. As for the uniform, I don't really care. It's interesting, I hope the kids like it.
