It's CFP or the Orange Bowl
I won't be surprised if we make the CFP, but we will be the first choice of the Orange Bowl Committee. The Rose will be taking PSU or Wisky. Just passing on the news. (We finished third in the East and the traditional Rose Committee will take a Divisional winner). Likely opponents from the ACC are Va Tech, Clemson, Louisville, or FSU.

Unfortunately for you, Michigan would face an ACC team in the Orange Bowl, not an SEC team. Fortunately for the rest of us, that ACC opponent (probably Florida State) will be superior to an SEC opponent with the end result being a more entertaining game.

With these Rose Bowl talks, how come the Rose Bowl chose a non-B1G champ Iowa team over OSU last season? Were they mandated to in some weird rule with MSU not being available? It seems like they'd prefer OSU over them. Just curious.

Iowa was a division champ. OSU was not.

Division champs, higher ranked, OSU had been to the Rose Bowl a few years prior whereas Iowa hadn't since 1991 (means more interest in tickets), Iowa has a big fanbase (not OSU big, but big enough).

We finished third in the EastUgh. That fact is probably going to keep us out of the Playoff.

Bama had one loss that year and finished second to LSU, which was undefeated. Not quite the same.

It kinda should.

There is a lot of chatter about the CFP taking OSU AND the Big Ten champ if it is PSU over the Pac 12 champ no matter who it is.
If PSU were to win the Big Ten they would have a legit case over the Pac 12 champ . . . better wins, a "good" loss to Michigan, a championship of a much higher ranked conference, and a much better showing against a common opponent with Washington - Rutgers.
If both OSU and PSU go to the CFP (FML), are we then in line to go to the Rose Bowl?

They get to play their "we did not have a single one of our starting linebackers and look how much better we got since then" card. They are already doing it. They are saying it impacted their offense as well since their D could not get them the ball back.
I'm not defending them, but that is the current talking-head narrative.

My thoughts exactly. As much as the OSU loss stings like hell, the stupid shit that happened in Iowa City burns me up equally. We're absolutely in the CFP if we win in Iowa City.

Agreed. And it would not even be as a 4 seed. We'd be an easy 3.

What in the world is the committee going to do with the Big Ten? The #3 & #4 teams are playing in the title game. The two best are sitting at home watching and have not shot at even a division title
Ohio State has a win over #5 Michigan, #6 Wisconsin, & #7 OU. Only a narrow loss to #8 PSU
Michigan has wins over #6 Wisconsin, #8 PSU, & #9 Colorado. Only last minute losses to #22 Iowa & #2 OSU
Clearly, the two best teams with the two best resumes are Michigan & OSU. What are the odds the CFP ignored the B1G champion and takes OSU? If Clemson & UW lose, could we even sneak in at #4? They only justification for putting Wisky or PSU in is a conference championship, but no one on the committee is dumb enough to think they're actually better than M or OSU

What they are going to do is give them an opportunity to play again in the CFP national chammpionship game should UM beat bama and osu beat Clemson.

Criteria seems to be a seat of the pants, case by case basis. They find an excuse to fit their chosen narrative.
Saturday night, it was all about how Ohio State is a lock for the CFP because of their record and SofS. Michigan wasn't even mentioned. (The only positive highlight for Michigan shown was the OT TD pass from Speight to Darboh.)
During last week, it was that there was clear "separation" between OSU and PSU That conference championships should only matter if other things are equal.
There was clearly "separation" between between Michigan and PSU- 39 points worth.

Right now, barring a series of unlikely events on Saturday, I would be impressed if we made the CFP and the Orange Bowl seems much more likely given the two scenarios, but I will prepare myself to be shocked all the same.
Either way, I have about 10 days off during the holidays and it will be me, a Christmas ham, a lot of carbs and wine and bowls.

The big ten could send two members, neither of which won its division.
The screaming would never ever end. Especially if it is the "Big Two" 1%-ers Michigan and Ohio State that get sent.
It will look like a blind revenue and TV ratings grab.
There will be mass mutiny.
