It's CFP or the Orange Bowl

Submitted by umbig11 on

I won't be surprised if we make the CFP, but we will be the first choice of the Orange Bowl Committee. The Rose will be taking PSU or Wisky. Just passing on the news. (We finished third in the East and the traditional Rose Committee will take a Divisional winner). Likely opponents from the ACC are Va Tech, Clemson, Louisville, or FSU.

The orange bowl would be a skull fucking. umbig11, do you know if the AD is doing anything about this with the big ten? Asking for an apology or something? The word is they've been gathering evidence, can you confirm that?

An apology for what exactly? Getting the results they desperately wanted? Don't see that happening.

The only "apology" that might happen will be from us when we're forced to apologize for calling attention to the fact the game was fixed and that the refs were anything but impartial. We were suppose to say anything about getting fucked over and now that we did everybody knows. We were suppose to keep quiet and play nice like we've always done when this happens to us.

bigten fired/dismissed refs before. yes, that leading ref was fired before, and he somehow got rehired. I think in this case, somebody in high rank should be fired to allow this happen too.

Ultimately, I think it's Bigten's little secret try to have two bigten teams get in and screw us up. I don't see why not, it happened in almost any P5 conferences and sometimes basketball too. IT's dirty as hell.

OSU and the B1G Champion to the playoffs.  The Rose would definitely take U-M in that scenario.

One thing I was just thinking about: IF the B1G gets 2 teams into the playoffs (whether it is OSU and U-M or OSU and the B1G Champion) ----- the B1G is likely to get FOUR (!!!) teams into the NY6 Bowl games.

The Rose is 100% going to take a B1G team and they would pick next.  They'd take the B1G Champion if U-M made the playoffs (note that the Rose taking the B1G Champion is MANDATED if the B1G Champion is available), and U-M if vice versa.

The Orange would then be mandated to take the highest ranked team among Notre Dame (ha ha ha), available SEC teams, and available Big Ten teams.

However: EVERY available B1G team for the B1G would have 3 or less losses and EVERY available SEC team would have 4 or more losses.  The Orange would basically have to take a B1G team.

The more I think about this, the more I wonder if the committee would take 2 B1G teams in the playoff.  Because of the downstream implications (4 teams in the NY6 means a whole lot of $$$$$ for the B1G).  Unfortunately, this committee is a political entity and political implications will matter in that room in 7 days.  Other conferences would likely be quite irate (I'm not saying they are correct in their irate-ness, just pointing out what may happen) at seeing two B1G playoff teams and four B1G teams in NY6 Bowl games.

One other complication though, what if it is Colorado? What is CO wins but doesnt make playoff then they would be in Rose. Committee probably wouldn't want a rematch.

I do question the original comment, which I am sure is based on good info, that we would be passed over for a divisional champ who we beat and who has 1 extra loss just because they won a division? When we'll be ranked liked 5/6 and that team will be like 13 or something. And we haven't been to the Rose in a decade. Especially if it is Wisconsin who loses as their fan base has been there a lot lately.

If CFP, guessing vs. Bama.  If Orange Bowl, guessing FSU or Louisville.  Would love to play Louisville if in Orange Bowl.  Just have to wonder if Rose Bowl would not take us over PSU if they could given the 49-10 thrashing over PSU.

has dropped off too much.  Do want 11 wins of course, but for some reason, would like our seniors to play their last game at a neutral site.  Would also love to play Washington or Colorado in Rose Bowl as well.  Just not crazy about playing USC right now at their second home field.  FSU looked really fast to me, and I thought they should have beat Clemson, but hey if we play FSU in the Orange Bowl so be it.  I am certainly not an expert, just a big Michigan fan.   Would love a rematch in post season with OSU too, but don't think we will be that lucky.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us make the playoff either. The Playoff committee's job is to put the 4 best teams in the playoff. Very few people can argue that Michigan isn't one of the top 4 teams in the nation.

But since we are Michigan we'll probably get fucked.

I don't understand why the Orange Bowl got the shaft in favor of the Cotton Bowl featuring WMU and the loser of PSU-Wisky, honestly.

I know these decisions are made in advance, but the Cotton Bowl was always mandated to take a G5 team this year because the Peach and Fiesta Bowls are the only other at large NY6 games.

Thanks for the info! The recent information regarding the backgrounds of the officials have me wondering if the athletic department is going to escalate this issue. Do you have any updates?

Saban vs. Harbaugh in semis If there is even a colorable argument that we should be #4 (which there undoubtedly is) you better believe they are going To make this shit happen. Also, no joke, we are one of the best 4 teams in the country. Even despite the osu loss I think we are 2nd best in the country. Osu was gifted that game. CFP is smart enough to see that as well. This weeks rankings are sooooooo important. If we see the same top 4 as last week it looks good for us.

Thinking but this is the same logic I'm hanging my hat on. That fat 10.4 rating from yesterday is the second highest rated college football game EVER - CFP absolutely wants that market. Problem is what's the path to even give the CFP the option to get us there? UW and/or a Clemson must lose, certainly, but I also think the BIG champion has to get frozen out - no way they take three teams from one conference.

Maybe I need to quit drinking, but I honestly don't give a shit where we end up if it's not in the CFP. We didn't beat OSU. And we didn't win the B1G. Does anything else really matter? Is Rose really all that more meaningful than Orange at this point?

Sorry, but the football world views the Rose Bowl as 2nd tier given the PAC12 is bad this year. Plus, recruits in the SE don't respect the Rose Bowl like we do int he B1G. Sorry to say, but the Rose Bowl is a "has-been". I like the Orange Bowl better this year and SEC competition which will enhance recruiting. So sad to me - I went to every Bo coached Rose Bowl. Great tradition, but times have changed in CFB.
