Interesting article on satellite camps, the SEC and Harbaugh from U of Tennessee.

Submitted by Mr Miggle on

No defenses of the SEC and the "N-SEC-AA". I think this ruling will ultimately make both the SEC and NCAA look foolish. It will be interesting to see if it also benefits Harbaugh. He's going to get a lot of favorable press whether he's holding camps or fighting the NCAA. I'll be very surprised if the ban stands in its current form.

This is NOT UM vs SEC, or B1G vs SEC, or even the B1G vs NCAA;

this is Jim Harbaugh's crusade to freely spread his love of football vs a structural control and exploitation system designed to benefit the few who have already turned the American Higher educational system into a joke.

Time to start a 18-25 year old pro league that doesn't test for marijuana and end the NCAA reign of terror.

UM doesn't look bad in any way with this decision, and it's a nice crystallization of all the pearl clutching we saw when these camps were announced.  People complained about it because Harbaugh came across as a bit gruff, but when people actually saw the governing body come down on the side of one conference/region of the country compared to others, it put in relief just how stupid this whole argument was.  Nobody was hurt by these camps except coaches who wanted to take a vacation, and any claims to the contrary are pretty easy to submarine.

the best part of this article is that they identified the true victim of this ruling. the under the radar 2 star/ no star athelete that lives outside of a major program.

He's right that the big programs are not going to take these kids, but the head coach from Central Michigan or Wyoming that tags along at these camps will be very interested in these kids.

(Sec) "doth protest too much".

Think of the children!

(But don't pay attention while we crush their dreams.)

This is a shit ton of karma the NCAA just dead lifted and it'll be coming back down soon.

Jim and John Harbaugh have told people that they consider it their mission to protect and promote the sport of football, which is under attack.

The Satellite Camps are a big part of bringing the positive message of football to kids.  This is more than a recruiting tool, though that is certainly a benefit as well.

I do not think this is over...but Jim is doing the smart thing and letting some of the dust settle and others do the fall out bash for before he makes an appropriate response.

and holding virtual camps? Say, for example, he works a deal to rent the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium, which has the two largest scoreboards in the country. He then invites a local high school or small college coaching staff in Jax area to be the "boots on the ground". Then he conducts the entire camp via Sype type format using demo film, workout examples from UM players, etc. Could be a really neat format and very easy to replicate around the country. Thoughts?
