Combat uniforms are so fucking stupid.  Celebrating the military industrial complex at sporting events, in general, is odd, too, but at least we're somewhat honoring actual people.

I'll pass on the jingoistic onanism, but you do you.

Which freedoms were under threat and when did the military defend them? Did Mexico invade and try to steal some amendments from a supply depot and we all just forgot about it? The main people that have taken freedoms from the American people have been the military industrial complex, so I'm not sure why you're so figuratively erect over them.

Did you "pass on the jingoistic onanism" when Michigan had a Military Appreciation Day last year vs Army?

Ask some veterans what freedoms they protect and say you'll pass on their "jingoistic onanism;" I'd like to see their reaction.

I find it odd that so may have such a negative reaction to a simple to tip the cap to those who serve.

You can thank service men and women without it turning into this weird national military fetish we have, but as a country we've gotten pretty bad at figuring out where that line is. How to tell the difference? Well, let's just say that an alternate jersey, replicas of which are sold for profit at a $120 price tag, are probably on the wrong side of that line.

Cheap gimmick anyways. Use that money to fund a program that buys down and out vets groceries and I’d be much happier. We’re struggling out there. Adjusting is hard. We don’t need a “good job,” we need a hand. At least a lot of us. I’ve had 10 suicides in a 500 man unit over 7 years. Real talk.

Yes. Yes. And YES!

Everyone talks about having respect and supporting veterans, but do not realize the support that actually could be provided.

Food, mental health, medical care, community support all go a long, long way. Much more than a 60 second “stand for our Vets” moment

Shouldn't the contrast issues been obvious from the start?

I'm sure it was that and definitely not the unanimous public backlash about how bad they look...

I believe we should take time to honor and recognize the military and the persons who served.  Veterans Day falls at the stretch run of the college football season its a nice time to tip your cap and say thank you.

However, since 2001 I'm tired of college football being used as a 4 hour advertisement for  America's war machine.  There's an appropriate amount of recognition, we've gone WAY past genuine appreciation.
