I'm old, and my hearing is bad, but....

did Herbstreit compare Charbonnet to iconic Michigan tailback "Bitch" Woolfolk?

I would answer your question if (1) I had recorded the game, (2) I was currently watching that recording, and (3) I knew at roughly what moment in the 4.5 hour broadcast this potentially occurred. But since (1)-(3) are all are "no", I am unable to help.

Was watching MSU vs. PSU before we left for the stadium and the sideline reporter definitely referred to her halftime interview of Mark "Dantoni".  Never gets old.

I don't remember when it happened, but he also whiffed badly on a play call, incorrectly calling who had the ball and who was on defense.

Since points aren't working, I'm going to talk about Fight Club. How does a non-controversial statement as the one above get a neg? Was it fat fingered? Is someone that I pissed off following me around giving me random negs? Was it Chris Fowler's mom? I'm just curious.

Yes, he certainly did. That sneaky Buckeye gets his shots in. If you listened closely, you also heard him say:

Sainristil has the athleticism of Antonio Ass

Peoples-Jones has the play-making ability of Anthony Farter

Tru Wilson has a heart like Jamie Whoreis and Mike Shart

Haskins reminds him of Ron’s Johnson

Hutchinson is big like Pat Assy

Charbonnet cuts like Tim Biakabupukea

Paye has a little Mark Messturd in him crossed with David Slowens

Jake Moody is like K.C. Yomama

Bunch of back-handed compliments.

You know I generally think Herbstreit does a decent job and is pretty fair, but it royally pissed me off that he was trying to discredit Michigan's win before the game was even over by saying ND just didn't show up, etc. Both teams showed up and if anything ND had more incentive to win, they just got their asses kicked by a complete game from UM.

I give Herbstreit credit for even remembering that Woolfolk wore #24.  We're talking about a guy that played almost four decades ago, when Herbstreit himself was a kid.

I haven't taken the time in years to look at the M Football media guide to see if this is still the case, but it used to contain lists of old players by jersey number.  If that's still there, it would be very easy to see all the past #24s. Also, any Buckeye of his vintage is going to be at least aware of Woolfolk (not to mention Herbie calling 'M' games when Butch's son Troy played for us, necessitating the obligatory shout out to Butch).

I like Herbie well enough, but not going to be wowed by this particular in-game reference. That's exactly the type of thing the media guide is intended to facilitate.

These guys have little microphones in their ears that transmit factoids to them from their research staff throughout the game. Herbstreit and Fowler aren't necessarily football encyclopedias. They may do some research about the teams they're covering during the week, but mostly it comes from their staffers.

ESPN might want to rethink having Herbie do the morning show followed by the evening game. That’s probably a 16 hour day for him and he’s no spring chicken anymore. I hope he gets a good nap on that private jet he has to take to get from one location to the other.

He did seem very unprepared for the game.
