Hutch sets an NFL rookie record
With an interception and a fumble recovery in the Lions' rout of the Bears Sunday at Ford Field, Hutchinson became the first rookie in NFL history with at least 7.5 sacks, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

But will he win a playoff game with the Lions?
January 1st, 2023 at 5:42 PM ^
Magic 8-ball says, LOL! No.
Did Doug English?
Did Billy Sims?
Did Gary Danielson?
Did Megatron?
Did Matthew Stafford?

Barry Sanders did with runs like this
Click to watch on YouTube. An incredible 47 yard run, made almost every Cowboy miss, in a playoff victory over Dallas

I was there. He sometimes refers to it as "possibly" his greatest run.

Danielson will alway be a winner in our farts.

Yep. And they somehow didn’t ever mention short arms while he played at Michigan. They only discovered it from the combine.
January 1st, 2023 at 6:06 PM ^
They couldn’t see over The Blue Wall while he was at Michigan, so they had no way to judge his reach.

There's gonna be a bust of him in Schembechler Hall
& Canton

One of the all-time ballers. Glad his parents can watch him. But whatever that stat is supposed to mean, other than that he’s diverse, the numbers seem kind of arbitrary. Were there any rookies with 8 sacks, 2 interceptions and 3 fumble recoveries?
January 1st, 2023 at 4:09 PM ^
I dunno. Seeing tweets suggesting that Aidan is the only player to get 7 sacks and 3 picks… ever.
That’s not nothing.

Richard Dent and LT both had 12 sacks and 3+ interceptions. Neither was a rookie, I don’t believe.

Good lookup.

I see your point. All the sports sites have armies of dweebs running queries every day so that at least one player "makes history" ("First ever guy to get 17 rebounds and 5 assists on a Tuesday in Salt Lake City!"). Still, impressive year for him.

For example: "The Cooper-Rush-to-Amari-Cooper TD is the 1st in NFL history where the passer's first name & receiver's last name are an exact match"
January 1st, 2023 at 5:44 PM ^
Since (insert date from last 5 years). That’s always my favorite stat. Such and such is the first team/player to do this since 2019. Lol

NFL Scorigami is always interesting when a new final makes it.
This was an interesting podcast featuring the life of a statistician and what they actually do during basketball games:

Yeah I have a feeling he’d be ROTY if he played a full season.
January 1st, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
He played great today. He was all over the field and was very disciplined at defensive end. They put some the hammer on Fields all game.. The Lions have been a pleasant surprise and he has gotten better and better.

Imagine if he was as good as Kayvon Thibodeaux lol
But with his INT today, that ties him for 1st all time with 3 picks by a D- Lineman in a season

Detroit has a lot of good young players. I'm not sure if they can beat the packers on the road but the game will be closer than this Vikings game on now. If they can win, we will be hoping the Rams defeat Seattle. Goff looks like he is the QB for some years. After last season I was thinking the Lions would need to draft a QB. Overall, it is a much better season then I would ever have predicted for the Lions. I think next season they will be in contention for the division win.
January 1st, 2023 at 6:43 PM ^
Holmes has done something that several predecessors could not, and that’s get impactful talent throughout the draft. And it’s showing on their young and productive D line, a well built O line and an unexpected stud in Amon-Ra.
I figured on a 6 win season maybe 8 at best. But I thought if they could hit 8 then their problem would not be at QB. And it looks like they won’t need to use a high pick on a QB this time? Could still use help in LB corps, maybe another CB and a guard.
I really didn’t think they had a realistic shot at post season and here they are possibly playing for it next week.
January 1st, 2023 at 6:37 PM ^
I know you Lions fans have been here before, but for what it’s worth, it looks different this time. They are building through the lines, they have good young skill position players, the culture appears to have shifted. Campbell is a coach that guys will run through a brick wall if he asked them to.
I have always rooted for the Lions because there was a kinship with their fans because of how inept and awful the Bengals were at the same time. Now we get to see what the world looks like when they are both relevant in playoff conversations in January.
