Just a fantastic fit for him. Gets one of the best big coaches around with a PG who can get him easy baskets. He just might be player of the year next year. I’d bet him

It’s more than the bag though. He really made the right basketball decision too.

I’ve had this discussion with people. Think of how many times this past year someone drove and dropped it off to Hunter for a nice easy layup or dunk? It’s not many

Im glad Dug got better at scoring but his distribution ability leaves a lot to be desired

The unfortunate reality of the whole situation is that this reinforces the notion Michigan basketball, despite it's relative success and history on the sport, is still just a second class desination.  HD alluded to the facilities and fan passion more than once during this process.  Crisler, especially, is totally lackluster and there really is no excuse for that - we can fill a 110k stadium no problem - Crisler should also have no issues bringing in fans.  I blame largely the administration on that - fix the seating, make it a racous environment that people want to play in front of!

Rant over.

Yeah, the fact that Crisler doesn't feel particularly intimidating unless it's an MSU-type game has always been weird to me.  It's no farther than the Big House for the students, and as we've seen with hockey fans can and will get loud for non-football teams.  So it does feel like it's an administration issue.

Also, it is hard to have two dominant "big time" teams at a school.  You look at the top programs in both sports and there's a clear pecking order with each and it can be hard to break up that calcification.  UM could do a better job, though, and they haven't.

Admin would rather reserve lower bowl seats for fat cats who will gladly pay out the ass for the status but don't show up for weekday games than give students more seating closer to the court. Michigan donors also generally don't care about basketball anywhere near the same as football.

Happy for him and hope he does really well there. Dude doesn’t have a great NBA future, good for him for going to get paid while he’s valuable in college.

But… what a cringe video ew

Not a total surprise.  Wish him luck.  I'm not sure if he demonstrably changes the ceiling for KU but obviously a great player.

Love > Jett, but it's pretty close in terms of being a chucker.

Bukfin >> Burnett

Dickinson >>>>>>>>>> Jacskon

Team needs to add more talent or the baseline for the season is NIT bubble.  Overachieve and maybe play in game, underachieve and no tourney at all.

Baseline for Michigan basketball absolutely has to be in the tourney going into any season.

There is no way Bufkin is equal to Love. Love is not good. Yes he's not scared about taking shots, but he mostly scores because he just shoots a ton. He's not a good shooter, not a good passer, very erratic on defense. Bufkin is about to be a 1st round pick, while Love is a senior who was a 5 star in high school.

Burnett is maybe equal to Jett, but he's been a bench player for multiple programs and also is pretty bad on offense. I think he's probably a wash since he doesn't seem like he'll do anything more than score off lay ups, but he'll offer defense. If you want to say Jett wasn't a good college player, that's fine, but Burnett has not been a good college player either.

Jackson will probably be better than T Will, but they'll probably split time more evenly than the other spots.

Not as upset at Hunter as some, but the "you got the whole world waiting" was a bit much.

Also, in general, I'm the first to say high schoolers should get every ounce of attention, every ESPN appearance, every free trip, every eye on their twitter they can out of the recruiting process. It only happens once and they've earned it. It is a bit odd, though, seeing the same type of behavior out of guys who have already been through it once and already have all the attention in the world on them.

Maybe I'm just bitter, but I like the look of this kind of stuff much less in the case of adults - it is why LeBron's decision seemed so unaware.

One of the biggest gaps between talent and effort over time I've seen. I hope a change of scenery prompts some real hard work from Hunter, because I actually think if he tried harder he'd make it to the NBA. The fact that his physique didn't change at all for three years when we have "Camp Sanderson" was always disappointing. If Hunter worked on his agility, his defensive mind is good enough to survive pro hoops. For reference, Luka Garza signed a $2 million guaranteed NBA contract for next year. If Garza can do it, I think Hunter can too. Just has to put the work in.

Michigan can’t and would not have even tried to match that kind of money. He would’ve been stupid not to take it, considering he doesn’t have a legitimate future in the NBA.

Best of luck to him. He gave us three years of effort. He doesn’t owe us a damn thing.

Cant compete with Clemson and Kansas money. Now where did I set that $100 million surplus down.. oh there it is.

Shit leadership gets you shit results and the most Eeyore fanbase youve ever seen. Kansas basketball isnt a franchise its part of an athletic program. What we are saying is that our financial backing as a program is second rate when it comes to basketball/baseball. Crazy thing is we just take it as a "Well of course'. Oops I mean "Oh well".

"No sense trying Pooh its sunnier there and they like basketball more"

They like basketball more because they gain more value from paying Hunter.  If Kansas pays Hunter a few million, they become NC favorites.  If Michigan pays him the same, they become "more likely than not to make the tournament."  Reinforcing success is generally smarter than reinforcing mediocrity.  I think that's the value proposition we're seeing play out.

I think it is a matter of "won't" rather than "can't."  I'm not sure it's stupid.  The pool of potential NIL donor money isn't unlimited.  It's large but finite.  You may also remember that a significant NIL deal was rumored to have brought Blake Corum back.  Those dollars are spent, and we got what we wanted from them - another year with the best RB in the sport.

So where would you rather invest?  The football program is a legitimate NC contender next year, and probably the favorite to 3-peat as conference champions.  The basketball program, on the other hand, is just hoping to make the field of 64.  Add to that the fact that culturally, we're a football school.  I think Michigan supports its basketball team better than many dyed-in-the-wool football schools, but if you tell a Michigan fan that they have to pick 1 team to be elite and 1 to be mediocre, they'll choose football 95% of the time.
