Hot Take: We don’t need a transfer portal QB
Been thinking this through and wondering where we’re getting this need for a transfer portal QB stuff.
Jadyn Davis threw for 3,370 yards with 43 TD and 9 INT while completing 70.8% of his passes in 2023. Completed 72.5% of his passes for 3,425 yards with 43 TD and 6 INT.
I get there’s a significant learning curve in college football but it’s not like we ask our QBs to throw 40 times a game because Michigan is a run first team which shouldn’t change if we have Mullings, Hall, Cabana, and Edwards. Why couldn’t we ease Davis into the offense and give him easy throws underneath to our athletes like Morgan and Edwards? His skill set is accuracy, extending plays, and play action pass. We can absolutely work with that, especially if we have another great offensive line.

I've been saying this for years. Last season proved Michigan doesn't need a passing attack to win the national championship. We can win with line play, defense, and a strong run game. Tony Annese is a short drive away. Send Moore and the offensive crew over to pick that mans brain.

Do people know what a hot take is? I think a freshman who is already practicing might be able to attempt 15 passes a game and not screw up a handoff.

Unlike Henne, he does not have Edwards, Avant and Breaston to throw to. He also does not have that offensive line.

No, we don't ask our QB to throw 40 times (or even 25 times) per game. But we do ask them to read the defense and adjust accordingly. Of course, moving from JJ to anyone less experienced is going to be a down-grade in that department. But the chances that a freshman could run even a simplified Michigan offense might be overly optimistic. I guess we'll see.

Hotter take: Donovan Edwards should play QB.

It feels like wait and see. We aren’t likely getting a QB right now and we’ll get a better sense of what the coaches think of the room based on how hard they try and bring in a QB during the spring portal window.
