Horrendously OT: Lafayette beats American

Submitted by RoseInBlue on

Ladies and gentlemen, it is now official and sanctioned by the NCAA.  Lafayette Coney Island is better American Coney Island, beating them 93-86.

I'm so sorry for this.  I just saw the score on Reddit and knew it was a sign.

I don't know what the customers did wrong that night but I saw eight men come out of nowhere with meat cleavers, knives, and meat tenderizers to make sure everyone settled down.  The glare and the stare was impressive.

As an American University (AU) student I got really excited seeing this and thinking our sports were going to be discussed for the first time lol

I can have and enjoy a Detroit coney, both places, they're both good. However neither comes close to a Flint coney. If you haven't objectively tried one, I wholeheartedly recommend you do so. No, Flint is not what you would call a "destination", but an hour-ish drive for a superior dog is worthwhile.

Ohhhh that's what this is about. I thought there was some huge inside joke the rest of this board was in on that I wasn't.

Only had Lafayette's once and that was when I came into Detroit for a buddy's wedding last year. And of course I had it at 3am, but man oh man those dogs are good. Only ever had one other place in my life that had better hot dogs.

One of those diners TV shows came in a few years ago and did a side-by-side blind taste test of the two rival hot doggeries. Interesting that they vary on type of hot dog, onion, mustard and bun they both use. American narrowly won the taste test, though I think most people prefer Lafayette because the place feels more authentic.

I was raised as a Lafayette guy and have never eaten at American but according to my father, who trained me to be a Lafayette guy and is generally an expert on random stuff like this, several years ago Lafayette switched meat suppliers due to a contract dispute and now uses the same supplier as American.  Though the chillis are still slightly different, Lafayette is apparently no longer that much better (or different).
