Hello: 2018 Jalil Irvin. (He has officially committed)

Submitted by Chicken22 on

Jalil Irvin has commited. There was speculation that he was going to commit today, and even a MGoPost was started. But now his has officially commited.

He is a 2018 OG that isn't ranked from Georgia.

Welcome, Jalil!

Sam said on WTKA this morning that three(!) Georgia commits, all 4-star 2017 guys, said they'll be visiting Michigan after attending the camp.  The guys are Netori Johnson (OG), Jaden Hunter (OLB), and Breon Dixon (ILB).

I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, this is why SEC coaches don't like satellite camps.

Seems to me that if he had his own youth camp going on that day, he shouldn't have accepted the other camp.  He should have spent time with the kids/parents that paid money to go to his camp, at his facility.  Instead, he just showed up for photos.  Sounds like a real winner, there...

Exactly.  He thought he would just swoop into "Harbaugh's" camp from on high, throw a few kisses to his adoring masses, and then quickly blow out of town leaving them gasping for more.

Didn't work out that way.

He looked like a useless idiot.

I totally understand this, especially in light of the Erik Swenson/Rashad Weaver saga last year.  If he doesn't keep up, or doesn't develop the way Michigan expects him to, he may not have a spot in 2018.  We've all seen it before.  This kid has to go through TWO complete High School football seasons.  You never know what might happen.  It would be naive to shut everything down.

He's from Michigan (I think) and wants to be a Wolverine.  He's coming to Michigan in 2018.  But if schools want to get in line for the backup spot and fly him to their campus and give him the royal treatment, I encourage him to take full advantage.  If he flips, he flips.  I guarantee Michigan won't stop recruiting the position.

I won't link it because the board will have a conniption, but a Freep article on the commitment confirmed what I heard yesterday -- Now lives in Georgia, but was born in Detroit and lived here until age 6.

"I love it down here but I want to go back home and play ball," Irvin said Thursday.

I read that story, also.  From the sounds of it, he is really - REALLY - a huge UM fan, and also said he's a Big Ten guy, not an SEC guy.  If he continues to grow and improve, he'll be a Wolverine, based on that story at this point in time.

Man I need my eyes checked. At first glance it looks like everyone on the board is demanding to jail Irvin. And I thought "what did zak Irvin do?"

Irvin has yet to get up to Ann Arbor , but he plans to remedy that in the very near future.

“I’ll probably be up there in early July because I’ll be visiting family,” said Irvin. “I do (plan to) still take my visits, receive offers and enjoy the recruiting process.”

You know, when I was sitting in Michigan Stadium in May 2000 at that graduation ceremony, 2018 seemed like it was forever and a day away and now we're getting commits for that very class. More of us around here are crossing that line into "recruits who were likely not born when I graduated from university" than ever before.

Even though this kid is a long ways from signing, he at least -for now- has verballed to Michigan instead of an SEC team.
