Health of player going into The Game

Submitted by Bo Harbaugh on November 20th, 2022 at 11:36 AM

Obviously yesterday was no fun as a fan until the Moody legend finished off the Illini.

That said, I am very hopeful we see a fully operational and healthy team this week. Obviously, Corum is the headliner, but off the top of my head, here are some guys were kept out yesterday.  I'm really hoping they didn't play simply because Harbaugh believed we could win anyways (probably more comfortably if not for Blake injury and fumble at end of half tbf), and he knows that OSU and the B1G were really all that mattered in terms of controlling our own destiny.

Dudes we need back...let me know if I missed anyone...

1) Corum

2) Donovan Edwards

3) Luke Schoooooooonmaker

4) Mike Morris

5) Trevor Keegan

6) Trente Jones

7) AJ Henning

I'm going to assume that NHG, even if capable, just doesn't have the reps and isn't in game shape to go.

Thoughts on anyone I missed.

Speaking of Stroud, man was I pissed when I heard those 2 slapdick announcers doing the OSU-Maryland game yesterday bringing up the flu excuse again from last year's Michigan game.  Geez.  The dude threw for almost 400 yards so that's why he didn't win the game for OSU?  He had the flu?  I guess they all drink from the same Kool-aid trough.

I don't give a shit about your work schedule, lol.

You could also, ya know...sleep (or at least try to).  Your work schedule doesn't give you licence to be a dick on the internet (or in person) and not get called out for it.

If this is what fills your cup...weird, but whatever. Cry more, I suppose.

Like I said, make a good thread if you're so concerned about the state of the board. Hell, make two.

I'm not going to egg you on anymore cause this has gotten kind of sad, I really hope you can find time to get some rest.

I don't want to sound like an ass by saying something like, "I hope you get the help you need" because sarcasm has ruined that...even when it's authentic.

I'll just say, if this is your outlet to feel better...have at it. I'm happy to be your punching bag because despite what you make think about...THIS SHIT IS NOT REAL (and neither are MGoPoints, lol).  But when you do feel better later today, tomorrow, whenever, I hope you find a healthier way to reset and recharge.

I will say this though, if you truly care so much about threads and care about "shitty" members of this community. You should take an honest look at your contributions. I think you'll find that they're pretty, well, "shitty."

You're happy to be my punching bag... Man shut up.

This started because I downvoted your soccer thread and made a sarcastic reply and you got upset about it...

And then I came over here and made a comment about this being a shit thread and you had to badger me on because of reasons..

This is a shitty thread. I'm allowed to declare my opinion. It wasn't hurting anyone. I'm sorry you got butthurt.

And then I catch you upvoting yourself... I've seen people crucified here for doing that shit. It's lame. It's little dick energy

And as far as me being a shitty member of this community. Yeah maybe I am. But I've been around here a long ass time and sometimes people seem to like me

So have a great day. I hope you stub your toe and it really hurts

If Blake can’t go then I pray Donovan’s back. Maybe he’s not Corum but he’s got the ability to break a play at any time. Stokes is gonna be a good one eventually, just not yet. Schoon would be a huge help as well for JJ.

I think Corum and Morris will be ready to go.

Because Corum was already in briefly post injury and has a week yet to get better.  And Morris was suited up ready to play if needed enough and also has a week yet to get better.

Losing Mike Morris to injury in garbage time is hard to let go. After watching yesterday's defensive performance without him I would say he is to the defense what Corum is to the offense.  Our defense made Illinois look like a competent offense for several segments of the game.

Corum is a player with tons of heart, I'm not counting him out. I'm hoping the MRI comes back good. Fingers crossed.

I feel like there have been a couple posts on this since our win yesterday (not saying that to be an ass...saying because this list I'm about to try and provide you might not be 100% and those posts may give you everything you're looking for).

One caveat...I didn't see the entire game yesterday, so I don't know anything outside of Corum if it happened yesterday.

QB - McNamara (OUT)

RB - Corum (knee bruise, he'll play, we will see how healthy he is...too soon to know), Edwards (hand, no one seems to know what is wrong...did he sprain something? Break a finger? That said, he's expect to give it a go on Saturday).

WR - Henning (no idea on him, the assumption is that it was precautionary to have him healthy for OSU, but it's been pretty radio silent).

TE - All (OUT), Schoonmaker (ran out with the seniors and touched the banner, warmed up yesterday in shorts, he should be ready for Saturday).

OL - Hayes (he's back), Keegan (expected back, he's been been banged up all year, probably needs offseason surgery, he should be ready to play), Jones (played two weeks ago, he's back but Barnhart is the RT for now. Not sure if he played yesterday).

DL - Morris (per him, he could've played...but wants to be as close to 100% as possible on Saturday).

LB - NHG (OUT - if he's healthy, he can play versus OSU and still keep his redshirt), someone said another LB got banged up yesterday and Mullings was playing, Colson?

DB - Green (he's obviously back), McBurrows (not sure if he's OUT or just not high enough up the depth chart), Perry (he's back), Paige (also back), Kolesar (OUT)

ST - Wagner (OUT)

This late in the year...everyone is banged up. Just get the win, get one more in Indy and then guys can rehab with no contact for 2 weeks.

There are two threads on the front page about this.

Have they ever released the nature of NHG's injury? It seemed like he was a "game time" type thing halfway through the season and never made it onto the field.

Sort expected to start seeing him get time once they reached a point in the schedule where he could play in games and not burn his redshirt, but as far as I can remember he hasn't seen the field even once.

At this point one has to wonder whether he could step on the field during the last game and not in some ways be a liability without having live reps.

IMO NHG belongs on that list.  Wasn't he a starting LB before his injury?  I would also add Cade McNamara.  I feel like we would /could be far more agressive with JJ's running ability if our #1 back-up QB and Team captain were available.  Cade seems to always be an afterthought on this board or at least rarely mentioned when it comes to comments about how injuries have affected certain games all season.  Just my take.

Corum should only ever get 15ish carries a game.  He's just not the 20-30 carry type of running back weve tried to make him. He was hurt for last year's OSU game too. He's just small.  Physics and inertia and all that stuff. We should have tried to find ways to open up the pass game more all season. Maybe put Corum in space more instead of between the tackles.

What do you base this on?  Has his effectiveness typically declined over the course of a game?  Not that I recall.

If he'd suffered a noncontact injury yesterday, you could argue, perhaps, that it was due to overuse.  But he took a hard shot to the knee yesterday.  That can cause injury to anyone, regardless of workload.

I think corum has looked absolutely gassed for 3 or 4 games now. He was running out of bounds early yesterday when he was breaking free but couldn't outrun the D. 2 weeks ago he tried to hop a defender and looked like he didn't have the energy to get off the ground. His legs have looked wobbly a lot later in the year after tough runs and he's notably limped a few times later in games.

I mean, he's still a phenomenal back, it's why he's in the heisman contention. But I would NOT say he looks fresh, at all.
