Harbaugh LITERALLY 1 win from 3 playoffs

Submitted by ralphgoblue on January 8th, 2021 at 5:01 PM

Im not sure most of the people on this board realize; Jim Harbaugh is one win away from making the college playoffs in three different seasons .

1) Once in a lifetime muffed punt vs MSU

2) Bad spot vs OSU and on the last drive (from 30) Taylor Decker had a MASSIVE non holding call on 3rd and 15 (on a Braxton Miller scramble)  ,shouldve been called and replayed the down from the 40 yd line with a 3rd and 25 .instead of a 18 yd scramble and first down

3) Ohio St blowout win

Not winning them isn't the issue here.  The issue is, that while his teams were good enough to get there, he no longer seems to be the same dude that coached those teams.

If he can get back to the coach that is capable of producing solid football teams every year that have a chance to win the B1G and get in the playoff, then that is all I could ask for from any coach.

Ummm, you realize that 2015 team had 3 losses in the regular season right? They sure as hell were not getting into the playoff as a two loss team coming off a blowout loss.

The loss against Ohio State in 2015 still would have eliminated us. Even if we won the MSU game that year. Ohio State would have one loss and they would have been in the Big 10 championship game that year.

Nonsensical post riddled with errors

1. Was a dropped snap, not a muffed punt. Winning that game would not have put us in the playoffs. OSU destroyed us to end the year and we would've tied for the division with them, which they would've won the tiebreaker. Two loss Michigan with no big ten title game does not make it

2. Braxton Miller only played against Harbaugh in 2015. He was not a quarterback in 2015. That game was a 29 point loss, so I doubt any single play decided the game

3. You could be describing any one of 4 different Michigan OSU games and I have no idea which one that is. That's the problem

Another flaw with the 4-team playoff.  A top 15 finish with Lloyd was a good thing.  Preseason top 10 was a contender.  Caveat that Lloyd pretty consistently beat OSU before Tressel.  A 16-team playoff sets coaching expectations at a reasonable level.

Although whoever it was with the 10-team playoff idea a couple weeks ago, I was very intrigued by that.  That was a good line of thought.

I've been saying and screaming this forever.  People want to beat OSU, and that's the only thing keeping this program from being great.

The only damn thing.

I don't want to write this post correctly for OP, but if you wanted to make an enticing argument:

- Harbaugh was one inch away from beating OSU in 2016. That's a rivalry win, a division title, and a big ten title game with a chance at a playoff spot

- Harbaugh in 2015 was one improbable MSU play away from a rivalry win and a top ten win in his first year. Would've helped a lot to fight the narratives against him

- Harbaugh in 2018 was one terrible Maryland two point conversion attempt away from a division title, a spot in the big ten title game, and a possible rose bowl bid

Obviously none of this happened. I think that is terrible luck that is not Jim Harbaugh's fault. That said, he has had terrible games and terrible seasons that were his fault and not a result of bad luck. I think that his window has closed. It's a cosmic joke to have all that shit happen against you, but it did. And we need to move on

I would also add one J.T. Barrett injury away from defeating Ohio State in 2017. I feel that if J.T. Barrett had not been injured causing Ohio State to bring in RS Freshmen Dwayne Haskins that John O'Korn wins that game. The Michigan defense still hasn't recovered from that 2017 injury where Ohio State went to the crossing/mesh routes they kill Michigan with now.

Wouldn't each of those examples require a 2nd win in the Big Ten Championship game to make the playoffs?  So that would be 6 wins away
