It just all seems to make sense that he has no future plans for being committed to the program. I always wondered why his brother would come in and take his DC from him. It seems to be apparent now that Jim must have made it clear to him that it was fine because he planned to jump ship. May all be irresponsible speculation on my part but it does seem like the writing is on the wall. At this point he is just doing damage to recruiting and to the future of the program so probably time to move on.

You can’t fault someone for wanting to pursue a dream.  It’s his life.  He owes Michigan fan and the U squat - unless some private agreements were agreed to among U officials. Bitching solves nothing.  You pick up the pieces and move on.  Plans should hopefully be in-place on a successor.

There are some pretty good QBs that are potentially on the market this upcoming season. Russell Wilson is probably looking for a new home, and I'm sure Minnesota would dump Cousins in a heartbeat if it thought it could get him. I doubt Green Bay would entertain the notion of trading Rodgers to a divisional opponent, but if Minnesota gives up enough to get him you never know. Stranger things have happened in the sport.

And then who knows about DeShaun Watson. Very real possibility that he'll never play a meaningful down of football again, but he's got the talent, and if a team is desperate enough to win, he may get a shot.

The last two options are pretty slim possibilities, granted. Watson would be a PR nightmare, for sure. But the point is that Harbaugh would not have to tether his future to Cousins. He could come in with the condition that if he's coaching the team, he wants to draft or trade for his own QB.

Honestly, I've read all the posts and all the "rumors." JH really wants his last shot at coaching in the NFL. He got us over a hump and is leaving us with tons of talent. (Just hoping they stay!)

HOW this is happening will ruin his legacy. I'm still trying to wrap my head around him flying to MN on National Signing Day. Even though most of the class signed in December, it is absolutely the worst optics! Whether he ends up in MN or Miami (which I still think could happen and was the plan all along), I think this needs to end asap.

I've also researched a ton for future HCs. I am not in the Gattis corner. We only thought he was great starting in the Maryland game this year. He did prove himself but it took a LONG time. I think he's an amazing person and is so well spoken/handles himself really well, but not ready for the big time.  I would rather give that chance to Mike Hart but think he's not quite ready. I would go for Matt Campbell. He may have had a bad year, but so did JH last year and look what happened. I think we could get him and he wouldn't be looking for a new job every year. This is a destination for him. He's young, has great coaching experience and knows how to be a college head coach. If we can get Aranda, great. Those are the only two I would want/think we could get outside of the group we currently have on staff.

Most of all, I want a coach that is all in and gives everything to the program. GO BLUE!

Harbaugh is one of the top 3 and all 3  will have in person interviews. I don't think Harbaugh will get the Vikings job but he will probably get one of the others, most likely MIami.

Dude is currently the head coach of our football team, under contract, and is being flown to Minny to interview for another job on national signing day.

That is some sleazy shit right there. Petrino level sleaziness.

Seriously?  There is nothing in his contract that prevents him from interviewing with NFL teams

And I don't get this obsession with national signing day -- with the exception of Josh Connerly (who's apparently unlikely to commit to U-M in any case), all of Michigan's targets made their decision long ago.

I'm afraid he is gone either way.  What did it for me was the blurb I read about the Dolphins... that Ross won't take him from Michigan directly... but if Harbaugh was leaving no matter what, then Ross taking him to Miami, instead of Minnesota, would be forgivable with the M alumni.  That is what it seems to be right now, playing out....  Miami hasn't hired anyone.   So I reckon that Minnesota will offer him, and then it will be reported (but not confirmed) he signed with Minnesota.... and then ambiguity, and then Ross will swoop in and hire him.    That is my take, if he doesn't go to Minnesota... and that, he is gone.

The Vikings are a tiny tick better than the Lions.  Kirk Cousins is your starter.  I guess Harbaugh doesn't really care that the NFL team is loaded and ready to go.

Balas reporting Harbaugh has a verbal deal and wouldn’t get in a plane without one. And that tomorrow he’s signing his contract with Minnesota.
