Harbaugh Fires Back at Alabama Coach

Submitted by HelloHeisman91 on

I love that he didn't call him by name.

"Amazing" to me- Alabama broke NCAA rules & now their HC is lecturing us on the possibility of rules being broken at camps. Truly "amazing."

You don't win or lose that particular battle with Nick Saban on the football field. It can't wait that long. It requires an immediate response. And like was pointed out further up the thread, Harbaugh basically hijacked SEC media day with a single tweet. He won that fight.

Watching a new show on Doscovery - the Last Alaskans- and they're talking about wolverines, "the wolverine is an iconic animal for the northern wilderness, they're ornery and feisty animals". Isn't Harbaugh just the ultimate Wolverine? Who's got it better than us?

Saban can't be coach of Bama he said he is staying with Miami. Harbaugh took a bad Stanford team and in 3 years knocked the crap out of the baddest team out there USC I don't recall Tricky Nicky doing that while at MSU

God Bless Jim Harbaugh for being the ONLY coach in America to call Saban on his bullshit.

Feinbald will be loving this as it will boost his show ratings big time.  He owes JH a rebate check.

Harbs is logically smacking down Saban for the hypocrisy. That's obvious. But don't underestimate that his OTHER audience for this kind of calculated tweet is his own team. He's constantly reinforcing the message that they're tougher than the next team...it's how he convinced Stanford they could beat USC.

Compare that to the tent - stake apology from Hoke. I believe the tone from Harbs matters.

Having this sort of publicity hit the media just as the camps are starting is a gift to us.  Harbs comes out looking like he is all about the kids, a point that won't be lost on the kids and their HS coaches.  Ask the kids and their coaches what they think about satellite camps.

This skrmish comes at the perfect time for us.  Saban is such an idiot for addressing it. He'd have been way smarter to just say "hey, i've made my opposition to them clear before, The other schools are going to run them and that's how it is. Next question."

Is that he's totally up front by the fact that he's gonna do everything in his power to kick your butt within the rules.  If there's something that's allowed by the rules that gives him an advantage he will take it as far as he can.  But, if however it's against the rules he will not do it.  Some people look at his tactics as taking advantage of the situation, but he's 100% following the rules and can call out others who are less transparent.  I love this because he doesn't have to hide or make apologies and can be up front about his intentions.

On a side note, this is classing Saban.  One minute he calls out everything that he disagrees with.  When asked the question on who should sit on this committee chair to watch over the interests of college football he refuses to answer saying "I'm not a politician.  This is just how I feel."  It's like no sh*t it's just how you feel.  So, tell us how you feel about the question that was asked.  If you're not a politician than don't talk politics and if you're going to talk about answer the guy's question.  He always wants to speak his mind, but then has no time to for others when they ask questions.  He thinks he can control everyone.

Saban first claims that satellite camps (presumably the ones run by other schools) are "all about recruiting."

5 minutes later, he's saying that the camps that Alabama runs are all about helping the kids get coached up and get some exposure.

Hypocrite.  You're the only honest one?

I love our coach; I am fine with him doing whatever he wants because he is a smart man and I have faith in him. My only fear is he is putting a target on our back and creating us to public enemy number 1. We need others to support and Jim is the most vocal.

People don't think about why he says these things and the meaning. Just oh here goes Harbaugh again off the handle.

But in reality. Jim is checking Saban who happens to think he is God and knocking him off his stool so he can't manipulate advantages for Bama and the SEC.

Bravo to our coach for making a stand and who fears no one.

And as long as we win.  People's personality traits get magnified often in context of how well they do their jobs.  When Hoke was around talking about manball with the 'aw shuks';players' coach/no headset/t-shirt in 20 degree weather routine we all loved it when he was winning.  But when things started getting pear-shaped, those very same attributes became the most annoying.

Harbaugh is a strong cup of tea, but he's also an excellent coach.  I think as long as he keeps us winning & keeps most of the players out of trouble RE: off the field issues, he's going to be successful and be here for a long time.  But if for some crazy reason we start getting back to mediocre again, or if the kids rack up all kinds of bad press to the point where the AD can't ignore it, those same Harbaugh attributes we love right now will be the things the fanbase will pounce on.

Michigan, the winningest program in college football, already has a target on their back. Michigan has been and always will get every team's best shot. These quotes and things by Harbaugh change absolutely nothing. Except perhaps to give our own team a little added confidence and swagger. Teams tend to be a reflection of their coach.

Personally I think "Well, we won the war, so why start a battle?" But then I realize that's entirely antithetical to our coach's personality so I can understand it.

And I know it gives all the fanboys here a woodie, but it's also cheap. Unless Harbaugh starts getting it done on the field (starting this year, not in 3 or 4 years), it will quickly be dismissed with a yawn, as mere bluster. He can toss all the barbs he wants at Saban, but at the end of the day, Saban is the one with conference titles and NCs all over his resume.

Whether this was intentional or not, the end result of this is that now completely buried by the 7-day new cycle is Ole Miss' self-reported bagmen violations and its joke of self-imposed penalties.  THIS is the SEC's response to Harbaugh, to bait him into a response, not because it'll make him look bad, but because the media will spend the next week talking about the Harbaugh v. SEC feud rather than what other skeletons might be in their closets.

We have already won the sattelite camp issue.  Thank you Nick for the diversion, let's focus and get back to the real business at hand.
