There are certain people in this world who deserve violence. The administrators of the NCAA are among them.

They are perfectly happy to destroy the ambitions of hardworking people so they can receive a paycheck for enforcing arcane, arbitrary rules. They’re scumbags who would be fascists if they could. The absolute worst of bureaucracy. I despise all of them.

Wow, where to begin...I think most of us agree the NCAA is a completely ridiculous, outdated institution full of incompetent blowhards. Having said that, if your response to idiocy is violence, I feel bad for you and those around you. Also, I hope you don't live near me.

I would rather him serve his games this season instead of next. More than likely means he’s done coaching Michigan after this season

I heard that something else might be coming down from the NCAA.

Apparently, Michigan requires that student athletes attend class in person.   This requirement strongly contradicts the approach of certain other institutions - such as North Carolina and entities where athletes enroll .. but, “didn’t go there to play school”.

The sanctions the NCAA will impose might close down the entire athletic department - since, it appears most (and possibly all) Michigan sports teams - both mens and womens - require athletes attend class.

Oh, the humanity…

Mick, be careful… a lot of rumors going around.  I don’t want to throw shade at Harbaugh .. but.. don’t forget this.  Remember a couple of seasons ago when Jim donated his bonus to staff that were impacted by CV and pay cuts?   Well, apparently that’s not all that happened.

Yes, this appears to be serious - the rumor is.. Harbaugh actually brought in a couple of “coffee boxes” - with cream - from Roos Roast and left them suspiciously on a counter near the training table. Harbaugh paid for it out of his own pocket and didn’t report it.   Oh, and several staff members apparently had a cup of coffee … and, one or two players might have too.

NBC:

The situation invites speculation that Harbaugh will pursue NFL opportunities, again. He interviewed with the Vikings in early 2022, and with the Broncos in early 2023. It is believed in some circles that he would like to coach the Chargers.

I swear this NFL shit will never go away

I'm sure the NCAA will try it's hardest to come down with a harsher penalty than they had earlier but my assumption is it'll blow up on their faces because they are the fucking worst.

Fuck the NCAA.

I don’t think this impacts anything regarding Harbaugh’s future with Michigan.  The team is loaded this year, so why screw with a suspension at any point this year?  Just win the whole thing.

Any suspension is better served next year as that is more or less a rebuilding year.  If he goes to the NFL, we never have to deal with it at all.

Just win this year.

In this day and age, the only schools that the NCAA can punish are schools that allow them to. I hope Michigan is finally starting to realize this.

I’m not saying we should be advocating for Michigan to go off the guardrails and be a lawless institution, but allowing the NCAA to take its desired “pound of flesh” at our expense just so they can score an optics victory and maintain some illusion of control is horseshit.

Can’t wait to watch that spineless institution to die the slow and painful death that it deserves.

I wish that I had more upvotes to give this comment. The NCAA is counting on a big name like Michigan to take this nonsense seriously and bolster their waning credibility. They are dreaming of Warde walking up to the podium, pursing his lips and confessing how terribly we behaved. They would never dream of proposing such penalties to any other of the major football powers. We need to stop entertaining these ridiculous games, and defend our coach and program as vigorously as possible, including all of our law school talent and alumni that are willing to help.

A general for the board.  Did you visit Michigan’s campus during the height of Covid?

If you did, were you granted access to… any academic facilities, libraries, or cafeterias?

IIRC, the only individuals who were authorized to use Michigan’s facilities during Covid were 1) enrolled students, 2) faculty, or 3) Administrators.

So, if you were accepted / admitted to the university - in a future class - but, not a currently registered student - you were NOT granted access.

Jim was on the kick coverage team for the Bears as a backup qb. He's not backing down to anyone and I can't blame him. This has all been a joke from the initial report.

Wow, the trolls are out in this thread.

The agreement never made a lot of sense. I’m glad it’s gone—regardless of whether Michigan or the NCAA are walking it back. After seeing how the NCAA handled UNC, Kansas, TN… this was absurd.

Maybe the Barbecue at the Big House had hot dogs rather than hamburgers so there wouldn't be any illusion of impropriety. (/s)

The NCAA is incredibly irrelevant and should be treated at such.  I live in Kansas, where under the shadow of multiple violations including an audio recording of an assistant coach offering incentives to a recruit's family, KU hired Snoop Dogg to fire a money gun at the players' bench and put their cheerleaders on stripper poles at their annual Late Night At The Phog .  Crickets from the NCAA, as far as I can tell.

Bill Self and Kansas as a whole realized a long time ago that the NCAA can only punish you if you allow them to do so. So that was an easy choice for them. They’re doing whatever they want and daring the NCAA to do or say anything about it. And the NCAA won’t, because they increasingly have no leg to stand on, and they know Kansas won’t listen to them anyway. They have no true authority anymore. What’s the point in following the rules when a) there are no consequences for breaking them, and b) following the rules do not give you any sort of advantage.

Elsewhere, the entire state of Texas is actively passing laws that contradict NCAA rules, and said laws allow student athletes to sue the NCAA if their rules compel said student athletes to violate state law. I have my own opinions about certain Texan lawmakers, but personally, I think watching them tell the NCAA to go fuck themselves is cathartic.

The fact that someone from the NCAA tweeted out that this has nothing to do with cheeseburgers makes this whole thing worth it. I fully expect cheeseburgers to make its way into the blog header this season.

This is all so fucking stupid.  Turn the middle finger aimed at the NCAA back at them up their own ass and call it a day.  Between this and conference realignment, everything is so fucked.  The NCAA has no footing here....BE DONE WITH IT.

I hope Harbaugh sues the NCAA for defamation.  These leaks are ridiculous.  Harbaugh won't say he lied, so the COI rejects the negotiated deal and then they leak that they're the one's who rejected it.

Fuck em'.

You can't punish someone for intentionally lying if they legitimately didn't remember.  Hell you can't even punish someone for perjury when they say they don't remember, otherwise Regan and a shit-ton of politicians would have gone to jail for perjury.

Tom Mars said the same. Harbaugh can’t say a word to defend himself but these ass hats can release a statement basically saying “we’ve been following mgoblog”. This whole thing is bullshit, yet potentially worrisome at the same time. Imo, they’re looking to give the maximum, whatever that may be. Luckily we have one hell of a good law school that can drag this out forever if need be. I personally am glad to see someone stand up to these assholes and their SEC bias.

Why is it that Jim Harbaugh cannot say a word to defend himself but the NCAA is constantly leaking information and then commenting on the leaks?  The constant leaks are the actions of a desperate party that knows their case is weak and ridiculous. I hope someone calls them on these cheap and unfair tactics.
