Harbaugh's record through 31 games.

Submitted by bo_lives on

First off let's dispell with any notion that Harbaugh himself will ever be on any hotseat. We wanted him more than anything and we got him, signed him a huge contract, and realistically there are not better options out there. The day Warde Manual fires Harbaugh and hires Dan Mullen or some other shot in the dark is never. Harbaugh has a better track record than anything out there.

That being said, let's compare two coach's records through 31 games. I think you already know where this is going but when you look at the blind record without context (and I admit context matters a LOT) it's still disturbing.

Coach 1:

24-7 overall

Two 2nd place finishes in the division

1-1 vs. Rival #1, 1-1 vs Rival #2

13-4 overall in Conference (0.765 win percentage)

1-1 in Bowl Games (BCS bowl win)

Coach 2:

24-7 overall

Two 3rd place finishes in the division.

0-2 vs. Rival #1, 1-2 vs. Rival #1

14-5 overall in Conference (0.737 win percentage)

1-1 in Bowl Games (New Year's Day bowl win)

After his 31st game, Coach 1 went into Happy Valley at night, ran the ball 27 times for 27 yards, and forever lost the faith of the Michigan faithful. Coach 1 had a crappy track record and did a lot of other incompetent things that got him fired.

As fate would have it, Coach 2 is going into Happy Valley at night in two weeks, with a chance to regain the faith of the Michigan faithful. I am not holding my breath but that would be a big win to say the least.

I don't see any All Big 10 players on this offense at all so blame coaching and play calls all you want but if you don't got the horses...

This was Harbaughs worst loss by far.

1. Home game
2. 2 weeks to prepare
3 Rivalry game
4. Tons of recruits there
5 Under the lights/National audience
6. State Sucked last year/off the field turmoil
7. Hyped/ crazy environment
8. 1997 team was in the Big House

Just a stunning loss.

All I know is that we are always complaining about the Michigan offense. There aren't that many things to know in the game of football. Why you try to catch a ball with one hand and that hand on top of the ball just blows my fucking mind. In no universe will you ever catch that ball. It's stuff like this that you wonder if the offensive staff actually knows how to coach the ENTIRETY of the game. I would say not. These kids have been playing for many years now. These things that this offense isn't doing should be like second nature by now. This is so fucking stupid.

Coach 1 did not got 1-1 in bowl games. He got his ass handed to him by Kansas State and then could t make a bowl in his last year. Shouldn’t those count for something?

A win is a win, but the flukiest of games. We had no right winning that game and I still can’t believe we did. I think the football gods got blackout drunk that night and forgot there was a game on. Those sadistic fucks must pleasure themselves to seeing Michigan lose, because it always happens at the worst possible time.

We played like poop and lost that weird game, but let's be honest with ourselves; we were way overrated at #7. We are a 3 loss team this year. Now maybe a 4 loss team. Ok. We aren't beating Bama anyway so just get better at football this year. Please.

It’s been awful since 2008 and had one year in 2011 where it was just okay. Without Molk it would’ve been mediocre.

Brian can throw all the stats, previews and UFRs at us that he wants. I’ll believe the OL can finally get better when I see it happen. When they can line up across from a good opponent and shove their DL off the LOS. Fuck, they can’t even do that against a lowly team like Cincinnati.

Long way to go to get to the OL mountaintop. They can’t seem to get much past base camp.

First, the result in year 1 against MSU is a 1-1,000 year fluke play. Today was a weather shit show, with turnovers and second string QB. I was at the OSU game last year and no way without home cooking we should have lost that triple overtime game. It was the worst officiating I have ever seen. That means for me that but for the football gods we could just as easily be looking at a coach who is 2-1 versus MSU or even 3-0; and OSU right now legitimately he should be 1-1. I will sooner blame the flukey punt situation on Harbaugh, than the crap that happened at the OSU game last year.

Sorry bro, the fucking scoreboard is all that matters. And that scoreboard says Harbaugh is 1 and 4. I love the guy, but he needs to get his shit together. Want to prove the doubters wrong? Quit pussyfooting around and turtling with a lead in the 4th and fucking CRUSH SOME RIVALS. Michigan needs to develop a killer instinct and step on some throats, if they can ever manage to field a competent offense.

It was a weather shitshow, but MSU had zero turnovers. The weather didn’t stop MSU from executing its game plan.

We didn’t lose because of weather. We lost because MSU was, once again, the better team. The more prepared team. The more focused team. The team that didn’t make mistakes. The team that just flat out wanted it more. Same story different year.

It’ll probably take a few more years for the Harbaugh era to completely die out, but it will. He probably won’t be fired, but he’ll end up back in the NFL while there’s still some demand for him in the league. He became more of a celebrity than a coach in Ann Arbor, and he’s now being outclassed by Dantonio and Meyer. As the losses to rivals continue to mount and recruits start going elsewhere, he’ll see the writing on the wall.

Harbaugh absolutely hates losing, and I remember reading he shuffled up his staff at Stanford fairly early.  For the sake of distracting ourselves, let's imagine Drevno and maybe Hamilton are encouraged to look for other situations after this season.  If Harbaugh decides to bring in fresh ideas on offense (and do the kind of research that led to hiring Don Brown), who should he find?  I'm interested in hearing any names (and rationales for their hire).

Harbaugh turned Stanford around, and then takes a pathetic 49ers team under Singletary and takes them to 3 NFC title games and the damn super bowl in year 3!!! What in the fuck is going on in AA???

Did the messiah thing get to his head?

I'm just completely stunned at the product this year.

You have James Franklin putting out a top 5 team after that program went through the ringer!

Is PSU recruiting better than us? Is Sparty? Hmmm NO!

WTF IS JIM DOING

Lol. You ignore context and then bring up going into Happy Valley. OSU ain’t coaches by Luke Fickell and PSU is now 5-6 years removed from scandal. Not the same teams. Context is all that matters, which is why fancy stats exists (to try and standardize it).

Jesus, I saw this number trotted around a bunch last night as well. Just drop it people. It's stuff like this that just makes this place insufferable at times.
