Harbaugh's Defensive Assistants
How can Harbaugh look at Ohio State's recruiting and what his CBs are doing in practice and hire Bob Shoop who can't recruit for shit to add to a staff of Nua, Brown, and Zordich who also can't recruit for shit? How can they continue to sign kids from Massachusetts that wouldn't be able to hack it playing for Eastern Michigan?

All these threads are depressing and I'm depressed
November 1st, 2020 at 5:29 PM ^
Sucks that it's true. Somebody on the staff thought that Vincent Gray and Gemon Green were good enough to be given a scholarship to play corner in the big ten. That is frightening.
November 1st, 2020 at 5:36 PM ^
A lot of people on this blog knew the 2018 class was going to be a disaster sans a couple players. It's surely looking like it.
Need more consistent recruiting, which means every staff member needs to pull their weight.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:32 PM ^
A lot of people on this blog accused anyone who criticized recruiting as concern trolling. The reality is these issues don't get fixed next year either because CB and DT recruiting have been so poor. Maybe they can scour the transfer portal but the lack of talent on this team especially on defense is staggering.
November 1st, 2020 at 11:31 PM ^
I'm sure Benny ( a defensive tackle) is probably going to state after that shit show!
November 1st, 2020 at 10:54 PM ^
Don’t tell that to the sunshine and roses majority on here who love every recruit Michigan has ever gotten to commit.
November 1st, 2020 at 5:40 PM ^
Green is solid. I have no issue with the kid. He has some speed and some of these flags are GARBAGE calls. MSU's mini CB from Cass did the EXACT same jersey tug and no flag. Them the breaks.
Vincent Gray... I don't want to go on the kid but he's not a corner. Safety perhaps. He was a late offer in a class that was underwhelming. Would he start at Michigan state? I don't know.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:03 PM ^
Jersey tug? Come on, our DBs are grabbing the WR’s arm with both hands. State got away with 1 grab. How many did we get away with? The coaches have to adjust and tell the DBs to back off after the 2nd penalty.
November 1st, 2020 at 11:33 PM ^
You seriously think the only play MSU DBs were grabbing was the one that the announcers pointed out? We got screwed by the refs all game. There were some obvious late hits by MSU in the 1st half that weren't called. Their line was holding a bunch and I don't think it got called once.
That said our corners and d tackles are so bad I don't even care
November 1st, 2020 at 5:44 PM ^
Gemon Green is young and showed some promise yesterday.
November 1st, 2020 at 5:55 PM ^
Wasn’t Gray offered late in the process after whiffing on higher rated recruits?
And the Green brothers offered hoping to get more kids out of the DFW area, specifically DeSoto.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:01 PM ^
Gemon Green is a legit good player in his second game starting. You're just mad, but that dude is a player. Gray on the other hand should never see the field again.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:14 PM ^
He definitely can’t catch a ball. He should have three picks in two games. One yesterday that allowed a touchdown drive
November 1st, 2020 at 7:45 PM ^
As they say, if the DB could catch the ball, he’d be a WR.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:26 PM ^
I hear you Thad and agree but what I said is true too.
I was yelling at my TV during the game for stupid Brown to take Gray out, all while pissing off my GF.
November 1st, 2020 at 7:57 PM ^
Gemon Green isn't great, but at least he has tools.
Vincent Gray...well, there's a reason he was a late offer.
November 1st, 2020 at 11:09 PM ^
Because Don Brown sucks at recruiting.
November 1st, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
Yeah and he's our #1 corner ....let that sink in!!!
November 1st, 2020 at 8:55 PM ^
Sad but true. We are not Alabama and depth at CB is an issue. Ambry opting out really hurt us as no one has been developed enough to replace his early departure. Folks !!! ... this is our issue and everyone else's except the top 3-4 programs.
November 1st, 2020 at 11:08 PM ^
But 80% of this board was convinced Gray was gonna be a real player for us this year. I'm sure a lot of them are the same ones exploding in anger now.
November 1st, 2020 at 5:36 PM ^
You know what's funny? Everyone is talking like it's a foregone conclusion that Harbaugh is on the hot seat. Do people even realize that Warde is not firing the guy this year, and probably not next year either barring back to back sub-500 seasons or something else catastrophic.
This is going to be an 8-4/9-3 team every year under Harbaugh, they'll lose to OSU, and probably be .500 against MSU. And nothing will change.
November 1st, 2020 at 5:49 PM ^
idk man, I agree he won't be gone this year.
However in 2021, Michigan has Washington, @wisc, @MSU, @PSU, and OSU. Hell, they even need to go to Nebraska. That is a possible 7-5 season
November 1st, 2020 at 6:13 PM ^
I get that it’s fun to shit on Harbaugh right now, but you don’t have to be dumb as fuck while doing so. In what world is playing a game at Nebraska a tough game to mention along with actual challenging games? If at Nebraska is a toss up game that is similar to OSU, PSU, and Wisky, then going 7-5 is not possible. Pick a logical criticism and stick to that line of thinking.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:29 PM ^
Toby is divorced, so...
November 1st, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
Probably in the same crazy world where we lost at home(-ish) to an MSU team with a brand new head coach that just came off a loss to Rutgers.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:59 PM ^
It isn't "fun to shit on Harbaugh". This team is ass and has plateau'd. I know you are very excited about Michigan beating Rutgers 78-0 in 2016, but it is time to move on.
November 1st, 2020 at 7:02 PM ^
“In what world is playing at Nebraska a tough game”...the same world that has your head coach lose a game at home as 3 touchdown favorites.
November 1st, 2020 at 5:54 PM ^
Agree. Harbaugh won’t be fired, but Warde can privately encourage him to take an NFL job.
I have 0 likely replacement coaches, so I hope it doesn’t happen yet.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:00 PM ^
I completely agree. Harbaugh isn’t going anywhere. He will be the coach here until he decides he doesn’t want to do it anymore. I’m okay with it because his name still carries some weight. He needs to fill his staff with relentless recruiters. Get some young guys who are hungry and willing to work 24/7/365 at recruiting. Jim doesn’t have to be the guy climbing trees and having sleepovers. He just needs to walk into a living room every now and then to finalize a commitment.
Michigan has the facilities, tradition, and alumni base to make this an elite place to spend 3-5 years as a college player. I don’t care if they are the best coach, just as long as they can recruit the best players. I doubt Ryan Day or Dabo know half as much about football as Harbaugh, but they win because they have better players. That can change and Harbaugh can be the coach that gets them to that level, but he needs to surround himself with great recruiters.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:06 PM ^
Day and Dabo know less than Harbaugh?
seriously, could you please send your drugs over to me?
November 1st, 2020 at 6:33 PM ^
JFC, I’m going to assume you mean Harbaugh knows more about the history of the game, starting with the leather helmet days. You surely can’t mean that he knows more about the game in 2020 when offenses need to do more than “establish the run”. I really hope that was sarcasm and not based on the amazing game plans and wizard like adjustments you’ve seen from the team.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:48 PM ^
This is close to being the stupidest post I've ever read. Questioning Day and Dabo's coaching acumen against Harbaugh? I'm just relieved when he doesn't do press conferences with shit smeared on his chin.
November 1st, 2020 at 10:13 PM ^
What???? DHughes.... you're joking right? It's dumbasses like you who cling to this Michigan Man, Tradition bullshit. More recruiting? He has been in the top 10 nationally recruiting since he started and STILL fails to develop players to their potential. Face reality dude, Harbaugh is NOT A GOOD COACH!
I guess if you and people like you need to cling to mediocrity in order to sleep at night, then hold tight my man.
Dumbass

Umad?
November 1st, 2020 at 6:09 PM ^
The trajectory of this program doesn’t lend itself to 8-4/ 9-3. The team has gotten worse with Harbaugh recruits and the transfer portal has allowed so many with talent to leave, if they didn’t already declare early. We are not at rock bottom, yet. We are on the path to being Purdue, sans the win over OSU. Harbaugh lost the locker room at least two years ago.
November 1st, 2020 at 8:07 PM ^
Maybe not but if Harbaugh does leave in the next year or so I think yesterday's game may be the critical tipping point. The press had several articles basically saying he's hit his limit here and the fan base is really starting to turn against him. Not sure what's going to happen but if it doesn't change soon it's going to get ugly especially if there's another OSU blowout.
November 1st, 2020 at 8:34 PM ^
I think he’s going to have to clean house on the defensive coaching staff to save his job. Only person that can stay is Jean Mary. Is Nua bad or does he not have the right parts? Idk and I don’t care anymore. He’s not an obvious asset. Brown obviously has to go. He isn’t calling the plays like he did at BC and year 1. Apparently Shoop already left. And Zordich I guess he’s a good teacher, but I get the feeling he rubs guys the wrong way and doesn’t recruit hard enough. Sims transferred and Lewis has thrown shade at the coaches since being drafted. Hill and Long both seemed to dislike him as well. I think it’s time for a change.

If season ticket sales continue to decline, it will force some tough decisions in the AD.

Agreed, we need to rally the guys we have. Man up and beat IU. Go Blue !!!
November 1st, 2020 at 5:28 PM ^
3rd consecutive coach who has ruined his head coaching career at Michigan. Do they pump downers into the air in Ann Arbor? We are a top 4 program in the big ten but honestly how does a superb coaching resume and a superb program add up to this?
November 1st, 2020 at 5:38 PM ^
What is the problem? It cannot be just one thing.
Harbaugh seems to have the Ohio State game years ago negatively impact his fire.
What is the Culture like for this team?
How much has OSU being a top 4 contender negatively impacted us?
Why does the D seem worse? We need Hokes D lines with this offense.
I felt apathetic yesterday; knew we would lose after watching first half.
November 1st, 2020 at 6:23 PM ^
This has nothing to do with the OSU game in 2016 and I wish that tired narrative would die already. The only impact or the 2016 OSU game is that it was the last regular season game gifted that Harbaugh with the Seniors being Hole recruits. With the exception of the 2018 anomaly, it’s been downhill ever since. Conference wins, 2017 5, 2018 8, 2019 6, 2020 2, maybe.
When players would rather go undrafted than come back for another year, it’s a pretty good sign the locker room was lost. Our QB of the future can’t complete a pass more than 10 yard past the LOS, the one who could, transferred.
November 1st, 2020 at 5:43 PM ^
Well Chris Balas just dropped breaking news that Bob Schoop hasn’t been on the coaching staff since September and apparently left over an argument with another defensive staff member gee I wonder who?
November 1st, 2020 at 5:50 PM ^
Whole thing is a train wreck. How are Warde and the boosters fine with all this?
November 1st, 2020 at 10:43 PM ^
The whole fucking program is in a submarine. They do whatever the hell they want and answer to nobody. Zero transparency with the boosters and fans that are heavily invested, both monetarily and emotionally, in Michigan's success.
November 1st, 2020 at 5:52 PM ^
"Don, Vincent and Gemon are really struggling in coverage, let's blanket them with the safeties and play softer coverage."
"Bob did you know I had the #1 DEFENSE IN 2016? SURE THEY WERENT MY RECRUITS BUT 2016!!!! I HAVE SHUT OUT RUTGERS TWICE"
November 1st, 2020 at 5:59 PM ^
He’s not coaching right now, but this is absolutely not the reason why. It’s non football related.
November 1st, 2020 at 7:01 PM ^
I feel like if it was Covid related we would've heard about him opting out
